A modern musical Lenny Bruce
Iowa-born singer-songwriter Dan Bern's music is topical, intelligent, and unpredictable. Says the Baltimore Sun: "He's a folky troubadour with a rock-and-roll heart and the all-too-rare skill of combining humor and intelligence." Dan tends to alternate between documenting the zeitgeist and writing about the personal concerns with which we all grapple, and he's overflowing with songs: his full-length albums often alternate with EPs that offer fascinating windows on his soul (his concerts are a good place to pick those up). Dan Bern's songs are direct, often very amusing, and always on target musically. He's got a strong surrealistic streak, a major strand of Dylan's influence, and a great storyteller's eye. Dan comes to town with a pair of great new releases, "Drifter" and "Doubleheader.
