Dr. Julio Frenk, '81 MPH, '83 PhD (joint in medical care organization and sociology), is Dean of Faculty, Harvard School of Public Health and T & G Angelopoulos Professor of Public Health and International Development, Harvard School of Public Health and Harvard Kennedy School.
An eminent authority on global health, Dr. Frenk served as Minister of Health of Mexico (2000-2006), during which time he pursued an ambitious agenda to reform the nation's health system, with an emphasis on redressing social inequality. He was the founding director-general of the National Institute of Public Health in Mexico and, in 1998, joined the World Health Organization (WHO) as executive director in charge of Evidence and Information for Policy. Most recently, Dr. Frenk served as a senior fellow in the global health program of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and as president of the Carso Health Institute in Mexico City.
Dr. Frenk's presentation is part of the Rackham Graduate School Centennial Alumni Lecture Series celebrating a long tradition of leadership and excellence in graduate education and showcasing the quality and diversity of the intellectual legacy of Michigan's graduate alumni.
