Virginia-born brothers Wendell and Sherman Holmes, along with drummer and master falsettist Popsy Dixon, distill modern African American music down to its essentials of blues, soul, and gospel–with just a bit country thrown in. The Holmes Brothers put their stamps on songs by everyone from Nick Lowe to Willie Nelson, but they're all fabulous original songwriters as well. There's a lot of gospel in the soaring harmonies and heartfelt idealism of the Holmes Brothers, and a lot of the blues roadhouse too. As Wendell says about their blend of the secular and the sacred, “Jesus turned water into wine, not wine into water.” The brothers come to Michigan with a recent release, "Feed My Soul," and it's highly recommended that you do just that with their stirring and exhilarating music.
