Director Benh Zeitlin to Answers Questions about his Award-Winning Film Beasts of the Southern Wild

On March 27, 2013, from 5:30 – 8:30 pm in the School of Social Work Educational Conference Center, is a screening of the highly acclaimed film Beasts of the Southern Wild. Following the screening, attendees will be joined by writer and director, Benh Zeitlin, via Skype for a question and answer session. Beasts of the Southern Wild was Zeitlin’s first feature film and has won several awards in addition to Academy Award nominations for Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay.
Set in a southern Delta community, the film documents a young girl’s philosophical attitudes toward poverty, environmental catastrophe and terminal illness that strengthen her ability to face these issues by herself. This story combines fantasy with dramatic elements to illustrate the resilience of individuals who commonly experience these issues in bayou communities. The film received four Academy Awards nominations; Best Picture, Best Director-Benh Zeitlin, Best Adapted Screenplay-Lucy Alibar and Benh Zeitlin, and Best Actress- Quvenzhané Wallis. Zeitlin won the Caméra d'Or award at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival, awarded to a director with the best first feature film.
This event is open to all U-M students. Movie snacks will be provided. Registration for the event is preferred.
