A concert of ancient 'oli (chant) traditions, modern melodies, and original song compositions, in a powerful mix of music that speaks to the soul featuring Kekuhi Kealiikanakaoheohaililani and Kaumanaiwa Kanakaʻole; with accompaniment by multi-instrumentalist Shawn Pimental.

The Makawalu series is generously sponsored by an array of University of Michigan units: Asian/Pacific Islander American Studies Program, Native American Studies Program, Department of American Culture, Department of English, Interdisciplinary Humanities Center, College of Literature Sciences and Arts, Arts at Michigan Course Connections, Center for World Performance Studies, International Institute, Rackham Deanʻs Strategic Initiative, Office of the Vice President for Research, Office of the Senior Vice Provost, and the King/Chavez/Parks Visiting Professors Program.
