CSC Discussion: Religion, Spirituality, and Cognitive Science
How can we explain the proliferation of religious memes as a consequence of ordinary cognitive capacities? Should we consider religious belief and practice to be a nonfunctional byproduct of functional cognitive processes, or as functional on the collective level, serving to influence prosocial behavior and to model a constructive communal identity? Is there a neural and cognitive basis for spiritual experience? Join us as we explore these questions and more from the cognitive perspective.
