Taylor Mac: A 24-Decade History of American Popular Music: 1960's-1980's

Taylor Mac is equal parts bedazzled shaman and Elizabethan fool, who through his searing social criticism
and soaring spirit reminds people of the things they’ve forgotten, dismissed, or buried. A 24-Decade History of American Popular Music will eventually become a 24-hour extravaganza focused on music popular in America between 1776-2016, with an hour devoted to each decade. Clad in glittering, over-the-top drag, Mac brings an incomparable voice and high-voltage stage presence to an alternate version of American histories, brought to life through a gleefully subversive mash-up of performance art and song. Here, Mac focuses on the period 1956-1986, with chapters devoted to Songs Popular on the Bus/The March on Washington, Stonewall Songs, and Songs Popular in the Backroom. Selections will include songs made popular by Nina Simone and Stevie Wonder, among others.

Please note: Taylor Mac’s cabaret will include mature content and is intended for adult audiences.
