Magnificent Miniatures: Azalea Bonsai in Bloom at Matthaei Botanical Gardens
Featuring a collection of blooming satsuki azalea bonsai on loan from renowned Ohio collector and University of Michigan alumnus Melvyn Goldstein. Satsuki azalea are one of the most popular and prized species used for bonsai in Japan and have been for at least 400 years. Trees are often used to create bonsai but other woody plants such as azalea are also trained. Magnificent Miniatures is a rare opportunity to see bonsai azalea in bloom at their peak.
