Carillon Recital: MLK50 Bell Toll
Burton Memorial Tower will join the National Civil Rights Museum of Memphis and bell towers across the country and world to honor the Martin Luther King, Jr. 50th Anniversary Commemoration with 39 tolls of its great 12-ton bourdon bell. Because the news of MLK's assassination rippled across the country on the evening of April 4, 1968, the museum will begin tolling at 6:01 pm CST, followed by bells throughout Memphis at 6:03 pm, followed nationally at 6:05 pm (7:05 pm EST in Ann Arbor), and internationally at 6:07 pm CST. In this way, bells across the world will honor the number of years Dr. King dwelled on this earth and pay homage to his legacy.
Please join us by listening to the tolling, followed by the Rev. Dorsey's "Take My Hand, Precious Lord," Dr. King's favorite gospel hymn. Learn more at http://mlk50.civilrightsmuseum.org
