The Poetry of Mary Oliver and Wendell Berry
The Poetry of Nature
We will compare the poetry of two of the most important and influential nature poets of our time, both still publishing in their mid-eighties. Our texts will be recent editions of their collected poems (Oliver’s Devotions and Berry’s New Collected Poems) and selected essays (handouts). We will look at the development of their careers and at the different perspectives they offer on the importance of place and on how to be attentive to and live with the natural world.
This study group for those 50 and over will meet Wednesdays, 3-5, from October 17 – November 21. Instructor: John Knott
