How-To Hieroglyph tour
Have you always wondered how we learned to read hieroglyphs after they had been long forgotten? What do the hieroglyphs in the Kelsey Museum actually say, and who could actually read and write in ancient Egypt? On this tour, we’ll take a closer look at this beautiful Egyptian writing system as it appears on artifacts in the Kelsey Museum including Djehutymose’s coffin, the spells on scarabs, and the false door of Qar, also known as Pepy-Nefer. Take home an activity book to practice writing like an Egyptian!

Saturday Sampler tours are free and open to all visitors. If you are a person with a disability who requires an accommodation to attend this tour, please contact the education office (734-647-4167) at least two weeks in advance. We ask for advance notice as some accommodations may require more time for the University to arrange.
