SUMMARY:Livestream / Virtual:Department Colloquium: Murat Aydede (UBC)
DESCRIPTION:Our second virtual department colloquium of the semester\, featuring Murat Aydede (UBC) will take place on Friday\, November 12th from 3-5 PM on Zoom. Please take note\, in particular\, of the Zoom link in the details below\, which will be required to attend.\n\nIf you have any questions about how to participate in this event via Zoom\, just let me know. We look forward to having you there!\n\nTitle: \"Qualia Theory of Pain Redux\"\n\nAbstract: In philosophy of perception\, representationalism has been the most popular view in the last 30 years or so. Most representationalists developed and defended their views by taking visual experiences as their main model. I will argue against all forms of (strong) representationalism by using a different model: intransitive bodily sensations such as pains and itches. The idea is that if representationalism fails in these cases\, it fails simpliciter. I will then outline an alternative view which combines various elements from the tradition: An adverbialist-friendly qualia-theory of pain that is weakly intentionalist and completely naturalist (physicalist/reductionist) that can be scaled up to model all perceptual experiences.\n\nZoom Info:\nhttps://umich.zoom.us/j/97265187485\n\nMeeting ID: 972 6518 7485\nPasscode: PhilEvents\nOne tap mobile\n+13126266799\,\,97265187485# US (Chicago)\n+16468769923\,\,97265187485# US (New York)\n\nDial by your location\n +1 312 626 6799 US (Chicago)\n +1 646 876 9923 US (New York)\n +1 301 715 8592 US (Washington DC)\n +1 346 248 7799 US (Houston)\n +1 669 900 6833 US (San Jose)\n +1 253 215 8782 US (Tacoma)\n +1 438 809 7799 Canada\n +1 587 328 1099 Canada\n +1 647 374 4685 Canada\n +1 647 558 0588 Canada\n +1 778 907 2071 Canada\n +1 204 272 7920 Canada\nMeeting ID: 972 6518 7485\nFind your local number: https://umich.zoom.us/u/aeewtvQUzT\n\nJoin by SIP\n97265187485@zoomcrc.com\n\nJoin by H.323\n162.255.37.11 (US West)\n162.255.36.11 (US East)\n115.114.131.7 (India Mumbai)\n115.114.115.7 (India Hyderabad)\n213.19.144.110 (Amsterdam Netherlands)\n213.244.140.110 (Germany)\n103.122.166.55 (Australia Sydney)\n103.122.167.55 (Australia Melbourne)\n149.137.40.110 (Singapore)\n64.211.144.160 (Brazil)\n149.137.68.253 (Mexico)\n69.174.57.160 (Canada Toronto)\n65.39.152.160 (Canada Vancouver)\n207.226.132.110 (Japan Tokyo)\n149.137.24.110 (Japan Osaka)\nMeeting ID: 972 6518 7485\nPasscode: 8845315180
