SUMMARY:Exhibition:Art Glass
DESCRIPTION:Bill Poceta is one of the leading studio glass artists working today. He creates one-of-a-kind blown glass vessels that resonate with both past and present. His work is influenced by various glass and ceramic”¨forms found in ancient cultures including Greek\, Roman and Egyptian. Being a former painter\, the surface of his work becomes a painting in glass. The reference for his surface designs can be traced to the Minoan culture\, 3000 B.C. Although his reference is ancient functional form\, his glass vessels are modern and architectural. Poceta’s museum quality work engages the viewer with beautiful forms and surface designs that can be traced to the late Bronze Age.

SUMMARY:Exhibition:Botanicals & Still Lifes: Watercolor Paintings
DESCRIPTION:Carol J. Evert's vibrant watercolor paintings depict suspended moments of beauty and grace within our often frenetic world. Bold florals and organic elements are juxtaposed with shiny\, man-made objects and repeating patterns of light and shadow to engage the viewer in a world that shifts between the two- and three-dimensional. Evert received a B.S. from Eastern Michigan University and continued her education there as a graduate student in watercolor. In addition to widely exhibiting her artwork\, Evert is the leader of the Saline Painters Guild and a member of Ann Arbor Women Artists\, Michigan Water Color Society\, Ann Arbor Arts Alliance\, and Cake Eaters of 212 Arts Center.

SUMMARY:Exhibition:From the Window Seat: Color Photography
DESCRIPTION:Kip Kriigel is an avid photographer who believes that interesting photographs can be found in everyday common places\, where most people never think of photographing ̶ places that can be seen in different light\, weather conditions and time of day. His philosophy is to always carry a camera. Although his favorite subjects are nature and wildlife in his Oxford\, Michigan backyard\, Kriigel often travels for work. Flying more than 100\,000 miles a year for over 25 years has provided him the opportunity to photograph the world from the perspective of the frequent flyer.

Cassill's postgraduate studies include the University of Iowa\, the Art Student's League in New York City and the Academe de la Grande in Chaumiere\, Paris. Her work is in the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art\, New York among others. She maintains a studio on Cape Cod as well as in Michigan.

SUMMARY:Exhibition:Gifts of Art presents Paperweights & Studio Glass
DESCRIPTION:The American studio glass movement started in 1962 with glass workshops held at the Toledo Museum of Art. The workshops\, taught by Harvey Littleton along with scientist Dominick Labino\, introduced a small furnace built for working glass that made it possible for artists to work in independent studios. The studio glass movement quickly spread north to Michigan\, and in 1982\, a decision was made that studio glass would be the focus of the University of Michigan-Dearborn permanent art collection\, which is housed at the Alfred Berkowitz Gallery. This exhibition is a portion of that collection\, spotlighting studio glass art by major artists working in the medium\, including Dominick Labino\, Marvin Lipofsky and Richard Ritter.

SUMMARY:Exhibition:Gourds & Baskets: Mixed Media
DESCRIPTION:Bloomfield Hills based artist and educator Karen Fenwick incorporates nature's wonderful array of gem stones\, agates\, fossils\, plant fibers and precious metals into her basketry and gourd art. Upon the completion of her first basket from a kit purchased at the Greenfield Village gift shop in 2003\, Fenwick's journey and passion took hold as a self-taught artist. Her attention to detail\, using various carving techniques with stone inlays and pyrography (wood burning)\, enhances and makes each piece unique. She is continuously inspired and amazed by the things that come from the earth - nature's art.

SUMMARY:Performance:Anne Hills & Matt Watroba
DESCRIPTION:Your folk music summer in Michigan isn't complete without hearing Matt Watroba! Matt is the host of the NPR/XM satellite show \"Sing Out! Radio Magazine\,\" and he's the kind of guy who makes friends easily. Not only is he on a first-name basis with most of the major folk musicians in North America after a few decades of sharing stages with them\, but he also has the kind of rapport with audiences that makes them feel as if they're sitting among friends in a living room. Matt's latest\, \"Shine Right Through the Dark\,\" is a set of original songs that reflects his roots in the Detroit area. \n\nAnne Hills has been called \"the heir apparent to Judy Collins\" by the Austin Chronicle\, and Anne has been a folk-music institution for more than three decades now with her soaring\, crystal-clear soprano and her innovative original songs. She came of age as part of Chicago's folk scene\, and she has never stopped experimenting and searching: among her many collaborations are those with jazz musicians and with theatrical presenters. Anne's latest album\, \"The Things I Notice Now\,\" is a tribute to Tom Paxton.
