Currently the Kunlun National Park is being developed in partnership with Yellowstone National Park in an effort to preserve the natural wonders and the wildlife of the Kunlun Mountains. Traditionally, ten thousand was thought of as such an unimaginably large number that it became the equivalent of infinity. The concept includes everything you can point to or even name -- all of reality.\r\n\r\nIt is sometimes translated as \"myriad creatures\" or \"ten thousand beings,\" but that makes one falsely assume that the concept includes only living creatures. The ten thousand things also includes inanimate objects (such as rocks, buildings, stars), emptiness (like outer space or vacuums), and abstractions (such as dreams, thoughts, principles, beliefs, language, the Internet).\r\n\r\nThe work done at BASEbeijing since 2006 has been a quest for finding, experiencing, collecting and acting upon ten thousand urban and rural things. It was unfortunate for the USSR that the most active period in the art export coincided with the world economic crisis. Market prices, including those for art, dropped drastically. To fulfill its \u201ccurrency targets\u201d\u009d the Soviet government had to shift from the export of ordinary antiques to masterpieces, including major works of art from the Hermitage. The masterpieces sold by the Soviet government to finance industrialization became important holdings of many world famous museums. This talk will explore the impact that Stalin\u2019s art export had on building the core of the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. and the role of the United States Secretary of the Treasury, Andrew W. Mellon, who became one of the most famous buyers of art from the Soviet museums.\r\n\r\nElena A. Osokina, professor of Russian history at the University of South Carolina, received her Ph.D. from the Department of History at Moscow University, Russia. She is the author of Gold for Industrialization: Torgsin (Rosspen, 2009, in Russian), Our Daily Bread: Socialist Distribution and the Art of Survival in Stalin\u2019s Russia, 1927-1941 (M.E. Sharpe, 2001), Hierarchy of Consumption: Life under the Stalinist Rationing System, 1928-1935 (MGOU, 1993, in Russian), and numerous articles on Russian and Soviet social and economic history. Sutton entered the bluegrass world in 1995 as a member of Ricky Skaggs' Kentucky Thunder band, playing on two Grammy award \u00a9 -winning records. After his tenure with Skaggs, Bryan went on to build a career as a top studio guitarist in Nashville. His playing can be heard along side such names as Keith Urban, Dolly Parton, Taylor Swift, and Harry Connick Jr.. Bryan has also released four solo projects and toured the world with artists such as Bela Fleck and Chris Thile, and as a member of the legendary bluegrass band, Hot Rize. Sutton is a six-time winner of the IBMA's Guitarist of the Year, and received a Grammy in 2007 for \"Best Country Instrumental Performance\" for his duet recording with Doc Watson. \r\n\r\nJESSE COBB is a sought after mandolinist known for his strong rhythmic presence and lyrical leads.
