Recently these pieces have appeared at auction houses around the world, commanding record prices. Starting with Chandigarh furniture in the present, the film begins in New York apartments, London townhouses, Belgian villas, and Paris salons of avid collectors. From there, it moves backward to the furniture\u2019s sale at auction, preview exhibitions, and photography for auction catalogues, to restoration, cargo shipping containers, and Indian ports\u2014ending finally in Chandigarh, a city in a state of entropy. \r\n\r\n On October 19, 2013, Siegel auctioned Provenance at Christie\u2019s in London, turning the film into another object at auction, inseparable from the market it depicts. Lot 248, a second film, captures the auction of Provenance, becoming a mirror of the first, repeating and completing the circuit of design and art that define speculative markets.\r\n\r\nAmie Siegel was born in 1974 in Chicago. Her work has been exhibited internationally at MoMA\/PS1, Walker Art Center, Hayward Gallery, Whitney Museum of American Art, KW Berlin, ICA Boston, and the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart. Screenings include Cannes Film Festival, Berlin Film Festival, New York Film Festival, The Museum of Modern Art, The National Gallery of Art, and the Harvard Film Archive, among many other museums and cinematheques. In this suite of remarkable photographs, we witness different manifestations of this phenomenon at work. For example, we see results ranging from the surreal to the seemingly straightforward through encounters between Salvador Dal\u00ed and Philippe Halsman; Frida Kahlo and Manuel \u00c1lvarez Bravo; and Georgia O\u2019Keeffe and Ansel Adams. Dr. Merikangas received a bachelor\u2019s degree summa cum laude in experimental psychology and music from the University of Notre Dame. She received clinical training through an NIAAA-sponsored master\u2019s program and internship at the Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic at the University of Pittsburgh School Of Medicine, where she continued to conduct clinical research on the Affective Disorders Clinical Research Unit while she pursued a Ph.D. in chronic disease epidemiology from the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Public Health. Through a Career Development Award from the NIMH, she completed postdoctoral training in population genetics\/genetic epidemiology at the Yale University School of Medicine, where she joined the faculty and ultimately became a Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health, Psychiatry and Psychology and the Director of the Genetic Epidemiology Research Unit in the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health. She came to the NIH in 2002 as part of the development of the Mood Disorders Program in the Intramural Research Program at the NIMH.\r\n\r\nDr. Merikangas has authored more than 300 scientific publications and has presented lectures throughout the U.S. and in more than 20 countries. Her work has contributed to both methodology in epidemiology and genetics, including methods for studying causes of comorbidity and the development of the genome-wide association study approach to detect genes for complex diseases, and to substantive knowledge about comorbidity of mood disorders with substance use disorders in general population samples. Dr. Merikangas has also devoted substantial effort to training activities including mentorship of individuals and directing formal training programs in genetic epidemiology at both Yale and at the NIH.\r\n\r\nThe two major areas of her research in the Intramural Program at the NIMH are population based studies of mental and physical disorders including the first study of mental disorders in a nationally representative sample of youth in the U.S., and multigenerational family studies designed to identify the core features and biomarkers of genetic and environmental factors underlying the familial transmission of bipolar spectrum disorders and co-transmission of mood and anxiety disorders with cardiovascular disorders and migraine.
