He purchased his first camera in 1942 and, in 1958, spawned a lifelong passion for documentary photography when he collaborated with a music professor to document music at churches. Rogovin began to photograph coal miners from across the world in 1962. His pioneering design pieces for Willisau Jazz Festival have been benchmarks in the field of graphic and poster design for about forty-five years and are now in important museum collections such as the Museum of Modern Art New York, the Museum of Modern Art Toyama, Museum for Art and Industry Hamburg, the German Poster Museum in Essen and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.\n\nTroxler\u2019s work centers on the enrichment of the human experience and quality solutions to visual communication design. It is this sort of conversion that is at the crux of Monkman\u2019s powerful work\u2014the transformation from age-old traditional stories which distort and oppress into something a little fantastical, a bit cathartic, and ultimately redeeming.\r\n\r\nAbout the artist:\r\n\r\nKent Monkman is well known for his provocative reinterpretations of romantic North American landscapes. By drawing on ethnographic observations of the nuns\u2019 daily improvisational building practices in Yachen, she shows how the nuns confront strict governmental spatial restrictions by restructuring the concepts of dwelling and building. I see the nuns\u2019 improvisation in building their huts and tents as reflecting a lifetime of preparedness that is deeply rooted in the gender hierarchies of both Tibetan society and the Tibetan monastic system.\r\n\r\nYasmin Cho is a postdoctoral fellow in the Lieberthal-Rogel Center for Chinese Studies at the University of Michigan. She received a PhD in Cultural Anthropology from Duke University in 2015. Her interests lie primarily in the anthropological understanding of religion with an emphasis on the relationship between materiality and gender in Buddhism. Boulle in Paris and receiving a DPLG in architecture, Christophe Ponceau established a close association with Gilles Cl\u00e9ment and turned to landscape architecture practice. He founded his studio with M\u00e9lanie Drevet, engaging landscape through a wide scope of design projects, from large-scale urban design to smaller scale private gardens. At the same time, he explores curation, temporary installation, and exhibition as a mode of landscape design. \r\n\r\nHis research and practice situates landscape at the forefront of design and art. In the European context, while gardens are ubiquitous, they rarely confront contemporaneity as an experimental mode of aesthetic and public engagement. Few creative gardens receive media attention, even when they accompany hightly publicized architectural works. As a consequence, Christophe Ponceau seeks to modify the perception of gardens in the collective imagination and to associate them plainly with contemporary design. Since 2012, as a curator and creative director working at the intersection of landscape, photography, graphic design, and installation, he has produced a series of important projects that experiment with the full potential of landscape as a scenographic design practice. \r\n\r\nHe recently completed the garden of the new FRAC Centre (Fonds r\u00e9gional d\u2019Arts contemporains) in Orl\u00e9ans. He is the curator of the current edition of the quinquennale Lausanne Jardins.
