At their summits were a select few\u2014kings and chiefs whose authority was derived from their direct connection to powerful ancestors and predecessors. These rulers were wrapped in expensive textiles or costly furs, and covered in beads and precious metals, materials that not only signaled their extraordinary status, but were also intended to safely contain the great power they wielded. The famous minkisi (meaning \u201cpower figure\u201d) sculptures of Central Africa were similarly activated through the addition of charged materials. Textiles, animal skin, metal, and beads allowed the lifeless wooden carvings to be activated by local spiritual leaders in order to communicate with the realm of the ancestors and spirits. This exhibition explores the parallels between the adornment of the king\u2019s physical body and minkisi. During the 1980\u2019s, GM\u00b0 Sam Chin won numerous competitions, as well as the state heavy weight kickboxing championships of Malaysia, Selangor in 1978.\r\n\r\nAfter he immigrated to the United States with his family in the early 1990\u2019s, he then spent the next ten years working and teaching martial arts at the famous Chuang Yen Monastery in Carmel, New York. There, Master Sam F.S. Chin was exposed to numerous dharma and meditation masters. A breakthrough came about when he attended a dynamic mindfulness and awareness retreat taught by a well known Thailand monk \u2013 Ven. Achan Tong. Master Sam Chin developed the ability to observe the vicissitudes of the mind and physical body, realizing back to simplicity and the base of origin. This started his inquiry into the neutral path, which later became The Path of I Liq Chuan (pronounced Yi Leek Chi-uan), and eventually lead to the founding of Zhong Xin Dao in early 2016. With this penetrating clarity, he introduced Zen philosophy into his family art. Master Sam F.S. Chin began to distill unifying principles, further clarifying the essential body mechanics and sensory experiences, and their relationship to mental awareness.\r\n\r\nIn August 2009, at the age of 55 Grandmaster Sam F.S. Chin is officially named the Gate Keeper \/ Lineage Holder of the art by his father, founder of I Liq Chuan, Chin Lik Keong.\r\n\r\nHe was also recognized by the USA Wushu Kung-Fu Federation, an official member of the International Olympic Committee, as a Hall of Fame Outstanding Master.\r\n\r\nIn January 2016, China\u2019s largest national television network CCTV aired a near 90 minutes documentary on Master Sam F.S.
