Alluding to feelings of pain, otherness, power and triumph, \"she was here, once\" features work that illustrates a moment of remembrance and reflection on the women who have roamed these spaces before us.\r\n\r\nIn summer 2018, artist Nastassja Swift organized a collaborative workshop and public performance in her home city of Richmond, Virginia. Using a range of choreographed movement, sound, and solidarity, eight Black women and girls, wearing large needle felted wool masks, traced the ancestral footprints of the arrival of the Black body in Richmond. The 3.5 mile walk began in Shockoe Bottom (the site of the importation of slaves into Richmond, and one of the largest sources of slave trade in America) and concluded in the Jackson Ward neighborhood (one of the largest Black communities in Richmond).\r\n\r\nThe multi-layered piece has produced a short film, mini documentary, photography, and performance masks, on display in her solo exhibition, \"she was here, once\" in Lane Hall.\r\n\r\nLane Hall Gallery is open to the public weekdays from 8am - 4pm. For statistical learning tasks such as clustering or classification, one can featurize the data with spectral methods and then perform the task on the features. Despite the success and wide use of spectral methods, certain theoretical properties of spectral methods are not well-understood. In this oral defense, we investigate the uniform convergence (as opposed to convergence in an ``average'' sense) of the spectral embeddings obtained from the leading eigenvectors of certain similarity matrices to their population counterparts. We will first introduce necessary preliminaries and review existing results on this topic, and then explain the motivations and benefits for studying the convergence in a uniform sense. After that, we present the two main results in our work. The first result is a general perturbation result for orthonormal bases of invariant subspaces that can serve as a general recipe for establishing uniform consistency type results. lightness. The rich fabric is created through a remarkable and \u00a0laborious process: from pattern design and cotton-thread binding, to over 100 rounds of plant and mud dyeing and weaving. This series of steps may take up to one year. Despite the high production values and complexities, Oshima Tsumugi kimono can be worn only for non-ceremonial occasions, since woven fabric is considered to be a less elevated technique than paint-dyed fabric.\n \nThis special installation introduces UMMA audiences to one of the ten exceptional Oshima Tsumugi kimono recently donated to the Museum by Kazuko Miyake. In practice, it is unreasonable to expect all devices to be extensively tested for all operating conditions that they will experience. The set of possible conditions is large, and the state of the device itself can evolve during its lifetime. Yet, deviations from normal behavior, or extreme events, should be appropriately accounted for during the design and the operation of the combustor.\r\n\r\n\r\nIn this work, a theoretical approach for the prediction of extreme events is presented. A classification of failures is proposed, and predictive questions that pertain to the failures are identified. This framework guides the work done in this thesis and is tailored to pave the way of future developments that are not addressed here.\r\n\r\n\r\nThe presentation will focus on the Lyapunov analysis, as it will be argued that it is a valuable tool that can be used to characterize the dynamics of the systems of interest. While Michigan has played a leading role in developing several types of EP systems, my talk will focus on how we established the University as the academic focal point of Hall thruster research.\r\n\r\nAbout the speaker...\r\n\r\nAlec D. Gallimore, Robert J. Vlasic Dean of Engineering, Richard F. and Eleanor A. Towner Professor of Engineering, formerly Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Education from 2011 to 2013 and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the College of Engineering from 2014 to 2016. He is a member of the Applied Physics graduate program; from 2005 to 2011, Professor Gallimore served as an Associate Dean at the Horace H. Rackham School of Graduate Studies where he was the Graduate School liaison to Michigan\u2019s graduate programs in engineering, the physical sciences, and mathematics.\r\n\r\nProfessor Gallimore\u2019s primary research interests include electric propulsion, plasma diagnostics, space plasma simulation, electrode physics, nano-particle energetics and hypersonic aerodynamics\/plasma interaction. He has extensive design and testing experience with a number of electric propulsion devices including Hall thrusters, ion thrusters, RF thrusters, microwave thrusters, arcjets, 100-kW-class steady MPD thrusters and multimegawatt pulsed coaxial plasma accelerators. He has implemented a variety of probe, microwave, and optical\/laser plasma diagnostics, and has graduated 39 PhD students and 14 MS students in the fields of electric propulsion and plasma physics.\r\n\r\nProfessor Gallimore has written more than 300 archival journal articles and conference papers, and 2 book chapters. He is also director of the NASA-funded Michigan Space Grant Consortium and director of the Michigan\/Air Force Center of Excellence in Electric Propulsion. Professor Gallimore has served on a number of NASA and Department of Defense boards and studies, including being a member of the United States Air Force Scientific Advisory Board. Professor Gallimore is a fellow of the American Institute of Astronautics and Aeronautics (AIAA). The exhibition will be located in several locations within Shapiro Undergraduate Library, Hatcher Graduate Library, and the Art, Architecture & Engineering Library. \r\n\r\nThe continued proliferation of digital formats and systems for the embodiment, distribution, and delivery of knowledge increasingly displace the book as form. As a result, the spacial limitations of libraries are challenged. The value of the book and the function of the library demand cultural attention. In this moment, we ask ourselves: what is the future of the library? What is the future of the book? This exhibition seeks to instigate and showcase creative responses to the challenges to the book and the library in the forms we have inherited as well as to project ways of reimagining futures for\/of books and libraries.\r\n\r\nBookmarks: Speculating the Futures of the Book and Library is supported by the Penny W.
