New editions of the city atlas continued to be printed through 1617. Hogenberg, one of the most prolific engravers of the time, was joined by many other engravers in creating the Civitates. Braun edited the work and provided the descriptions of the cities on the verso of each plate. This exhibit contains 18 works from the Civitates, including many from the Clark Library\u2019s holdings. Lastly, can this thread then be unraveled? \r\n\r\nAdditionally, this exhibition features a series of drawings titled Gr\u00e2ce N\u00f3ir, which features Black women whose works have contributed to shaping the landscape of visual culture.\r\n\r\nAs part of his residency, Sawyer also worked with U-M students to create a mural to honor Samuel C. Watson, the first African American student admitted to the University of Michigan. The mural is on view on the first floor of MLB.\r\n\r\nAbout the artist:\r\n\r\nTylonn J. Sawyer (b. 1976) is an American figurative artist, educator, and curator living and working in Detroit, Michigan. His work centers around themes of identity, both individual and collective, politics, race, history and pop culture. In 2013, Sawyer expanded his studio practice to include large public murals and collaborative projects throughout Detroit. Sawyer is a professor of art at Oakland Community College and teaches drawing at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit. His passion for arts education lead to his community work with youth including various community arts programs throughout New York, where he served as an art director, teacher, curriculum specialist, and more. Most recently, in early 2014, Sawyer started the first teen arts council in Michigan for the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit. He earned an MFA in painting from the New York Academy of Art: Graduate School of Figurative Art and a BFA in drawing & painting from Eastern Michigan University. These texts were repeatedly copied throughout antiquity and the Middle Ages, ensuring their continued transmission. Literary texts on papyri, however, provide a rare opportunity to glimpse fragments of ancient literature in their original form and to discover works that were read in antiquity but did not otherwise survive into the medieval and modern periods. The relevant cosmological parameters include the density of the universe, the cosmological constant, the abundance of ordinary matter, the dark matter contribution, and the amplitude of primordial density fluctuations. These quantities are constrained by the requirements that the universe lives for a sufficiently long time, emerges from its early epochs with an acceptable chemical composition, and can successfully produce galaxies. On smaller scales, stars and planets must be able to form and function. The stars must have sufficiently long lifetimes and hot surface temperatures. The true value of virtual appointments cannot be realized until they are truly integrated with the office appointment systems. In this study, we introduce a capacity allocation model to study the use of virtual appointments in a chronic care setting. Specifically, we develop a finite horizon stochastic dynamic program to determine which patients to schedule for office and virtual appointments that maximizes aggregate health benefits across a cohort of patients. Optimal policy characterization for this problem is challenging. We find that under certain conditions, a myopic heuristic, where the sickest patients are scheduled for office appointments and the next sickest patients are scheduled for virtual appointments, is optimal. We show that the myopic heuristic performs well even in more general settings. Our findings further show that virtual appointments serve a dual purpose: they may reduce the number of office appointments and may trigger follow-up office appointments.\r\n\r\nDr. Armagan Bayram is an assistant professor in the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering at University of Michigan \u2013 Dearborn. She worked as a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management Sciences at Northwestern University. She received her Ph.D. in Management Science from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and M.S. and B.S. degrees in Industrial Engineering from Istanbul Technical University. From sports to public-speaking to test-taking, many of us have experienced and witnessed \"choking under pressure\". What is happening in your brain and body when you choke in stressful situations? Is there anything we can do about it? In this talk, UM Psychology Professor Taraz Lee shares insights from the fields of Psychology and Neuroscience that shed light on the phenomenon of \"choking under pressure\" including some of the psychological tools you can use to perform at your best when it matters most.\r\n\r\nBio: Taraz Lee is an Assistant Professor in the Psychology Department at the University of Michigan in the Cognition and Cognitive Neuroscience Area and the head of the Cognition, Control, and Action (CoCoA) Lab. Using a variety of techniques such as functional neuroimaging, non-invasive brain stimulation, behavioral studies, and computational modeling, Prof. Lee and his lab study how motivation and executive control processes both help and hurt performance in a variety of domains. Many people have the intuition that exerting too much control over well-learned actions can be harmful, especially when under pressure to perform. At the same time, most day-to-day activities clearly benefit from goal-directed control and enhanced motivation. The CoCoA Lab is interested in understanding this apparent paradox.
