Representing concepts of time, memory, openness and constraint, the pieces are created with traditional methods, using scissors and simple die-cutting tools; cross-disciplinary techniques, such as weaving and tatting used in fiber arts; and technologies like laser cutting machines. There are two series of paper nests: one created entirely without the use of adhesive, and the other involves tatting with knots. His passion for inclusion and social justice inspired him to found the Sphinx Organization, which works to help reflect the diversity in the US in orchestras. As you read, consider how these journals embody elements of both private and public writing and the permeability between those spheres.\r\n\r\nDiaries, journals, daily planners, notebooks: these ephemeral writings provide documentation of private lives and thoughts that can otherwise be difficult to find in the historical record. But does \u201cprivate\u201d necessarily imply unfiltered and unmediated? Many theorists have noted that the diarist is both writer and reader, both private and public self. Therefore the content and form of diaries are created for future reading, even if only by a future version of the self. The ambiguity of a diary\u2019s audience is heightened in the case of published diaries. The form suggests that we, as readers, are accessing raw, unfiltered thoughts, but rounds of revision are common, and often essential to clearly convey the intended meaning. Prior to joining ORNL, he was Professor of Mechanical Engineering and the HUSCO Ramirez Distinguished Chair in Fluid Power and Motion Control. Kurfess has also served as the Assistant Director for Advanced Manufacturing at the Office of Science and Technology Policy in the Executive Office of the President of the United States of America. In this position, he had responsibility for engaging the federal sector and the greater scientific community to identify possible areas for policy actions related to manufacturing. In other words, that they would become social brokers. We tested this prediction by characterizing the social networks of eight Master of Business Administration cohorts (N=2,250). Here we show that international students (N=776) from populations with diverse long-history migration were more likely to become social brokers than international students from less ancestrally diverse nations. American students\u2019 (N = 1,464) brokerage scores were also positively related to their home counties\u2019 indices of international connectivity (calculated from aggregate Facebook data).
