All films will be screened in their original languages with English subtitles. As you read, consider how these journals embody elements of both private and public writing and the permeability between those spheres.\r\n\r\nDiaries, journals, daily planners, notebooks: these ephemeral writings provide documentation of private lives and thoughts that can otherwise be difficult to find in the historical record. But does \u201cprivate\u201d necessarily imply unfiltered and unmediated? Many theorists have noted that the diarist is both writer and reader, both private and public self. Therefore the content and form of diaries are created for future reading, even if only by a future version of the self. The ambiguity of a diary\u2019s audience is heightened in the case of published diaries. The form suggests that we, as readers, are accessing raw, unfiltered thoughts, but rounds of revision are common, and often essential to clearly convey the intended meaning. The intersection of these technologies has given rise to a renaissance of control and decision-making developments geared towards mobile wireless sensor networks (MWSNs). One such development, dynamic coverage control, enables MWSNs to rapidly explore and gather information from uncertain environments. This defense will overview contributions to dynamic coverage in environments containing information decay, stochastic intruders, and power-constrained vehicles.\r\n\r\nThe extension of coverage to collaborative networks of humans and aerial\/space robots shall also be presented. The author considers a human wearing an augmented reality (AR) device while completing multiple interdependent tasks that are time-sensitive and spatially separated. The problem of coverage is here coupled to that of human intent inference. An aerial robot shares the environment and uses machine learning in order to determine both the locations of tasks as well as their temporal context. This enables the streaming of real time task images that are beyond the human\u2019s field of view to their AR display. The gallery collapses courtroom, theater, classroom, laboratory, and artist studio in order to study the relationship between performance and law. In hosting mock trials, court transcript readings, and trial advocacy workshops, the artist investigates who performs the role of witness in our society and how that understanding may map onto the narrower legal definition of the role. The installation will host legal simulations from participating groups, including the Trial Advocacy Society and the Oral Argument Competition from the University of Michigan Law School, as well as the undergraduate team of the Collegiate American Mock Trial Association. Taking the role of courtroom sketch artists, or court reporters, students from the U-M Stamps School of Art and Design will observe and document the courtroom performances through drawing, text, photography, and video.\n\nWitness Lab\u00a0is presented in partnership with the Roman J. Her case demonstrates how the legal status of enslaved persons was affected by the redefinitions of jurisdictions and by the forced or voluntary crossings between political units. It sheds light on the circulation and uses of the Free Womb law (1813) in Argentina and Uruguay and traces legal experts\u2019 debates over its meaning. And it reveals the knowledge enslaved people had of those abolitionist norms and how they used them to resist forced relocations, attempt favorable migrations, or achieve full freedom. Candioti\u2019s doctoral research focused on the political history of justice in the nineteenth-century R\u00edo de la Plata, resulting in the book Un maldito derecho: leyes, jueces y derecho en la Buenos Aires republicana, 1810\u20131830 (Buenos Aires, Didot). She is currently working on a book on gradual abolition in the R\u00edo de la Plata (1810-1860) called El tiempo de los libertos. Esclavitud y abolici\u00f3n en el R\u00edo de la Plata. Candioti was a visiting fellow in ILAS-Columbia University, NYC (2010-2011), and Postdoctoral Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for European Legal History (MPIeR), Frankfurt, Germany (2014). In 2014, she was awarded a scholarship by the Slicher van Bath DeJong Foundation, CEDLA (Holland) to conduct comparative research on slavery in Santa Fe and Buenos Aires. Warm dense matter (WDM) is of particular interest since it \u201cexists in the lower-temperature portion of the high energy density (HED) regime, under conditions where the assumptions of both condensed-matter theory and ideal-plasma theory break down, and where quantum mechanics, particle correlations, and electric forces are all important.\u201d [FESAC 2009]. Interiors of giant planets, brown dwarfs, and neutron star envelopes are all examples of WDM. A wide variety of theoretical methods have been developed and are in routine use for studying warm dense matter. This includes density functional theory, time-dependent density functional theory, and quantum kinetic theory. Recently, there has been a resurgence in interest in using a \u201csimpler\u201d approach to investigating WDM based on quantum hydrodynamics. Quantum Hydrodynamics (QHD) has a long and interesting history, dating back to the first developments by Madelung and Bohm. In this talk, we discuss the historical and recent developments in QHD as applied to quantum many-body systems relevant to HED regimes. Recent work involving adding a QHD capability to the radiation hydrodynamics code MIRANDA will be discussed with applications to the electron gas.\r\n\r\nAbout the speaker:\r\nFrank Graziani received a BS in physics from Santa Clara U., and a PhD in physics from UCLA. He was a postdoctoral fellow at U. Colorado and U. Minnesota working in cosmology and particle physics; and worked with NASA on exoplanet dynamics and star formation. Dr. Graziani joined Lawrence Livermore National Lab. in 1989 where he works in radiation transport and plasma physics. He has held many leadership positions at LLNL, including code project lead, group leader, V&V Leader, PI for LDRD-Strategic Initiatives, lead for the National Boost Initiative and Assoc. Division Leader for computational physics. He now directs the High Energy Density Sciences Center. He has won four DOE Defense Program Awards of Excellence, the LLNL Director\u2019s S&T Award and is a Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff. His research interests include the micro-physics of dense plasmas and HED education. Born in an isolated Anatolian mountain village, Ohannessian mastered a centuries-old art form in K\u00fctahya, witnessed the rise of violent nationalism in the waning years of the Ottoman Empire, endured arrest and deportation in the Armenian Genocide, founded a new tradition in Jerusalem under the British Mandate, and spent his final years, uprooted once again, in Cairo and Beirut.\r\n \r\nMs. Moughalian will detail the lineage of her grandfather David Ohannessian\u2019s ceramic tradition and document the critical roles his deportation and his own agency played in its transfer\u2014aspects of the story obscured in the art historical narrative. She will speak about the process of coming to terms with her family\u2019s past, the ways in which that served as an impetus to excavate and reconstruct her grandfather\u2019s history through archival research, and the importance of preserving the stories of peoples displaced through migration.\r\n \r\nSato Moughalian is the author of Feast of Ashes: The Life and Art of David Ohannessian (Redwood Press\/Stanford University Press, 2019). She is also an award-winning flutist in New York City and Artistic Director of Perspectives Ensemble, founded in 1993 at Columbia University to explore and contextualize works of composers and visual artists. She serves as principal flutist of the American Modern Ensemble and Gotham Chamber Opera; guest flutist with groups including Imani Winds, American Ballet Theatre, American Symphony Orchestras, and the Orquestra Sinfonico do Estado S\u00e3o Paulo, Brazil. She can be heard on more than thirty chamber music recordings for Sony Classics, BIS, Naxos, as well as on YouTube, Spotify, and other major music platforms.
