The goal of this work was to understand the impact of deprivation in the first years of life on physical and behavioral development. Despite moving into some of the most well-resourced families on the planet when they were between 1 and 3 years of age, on average, previously institutionalized (PI) youth show significant impacts, often dose-dependent, on neurobehavioral development, the functioning of their stress-regulatory systems, and cardiometabolic health. Not all children are similarly affected, and I will also cover our work on parenting post-adoption and its relations with children\u2019s outcomes.
