SUMMARY:Class / Instruction:Earth Day at 50 Teach-Out
DESCRIPTION:On April 22\, 2020\, our world celebrates the 50th anniversary of Earth Day\, an annual event meant to bring people together from across the world in protest\, solidarity\, and conversation about how we can collectively fight for a sustainable and just world. In this Teach-Out\, you will explore the origins of Earth Day 1970 with student activists from Environmental Action for Survival (ENACT)\, an environmental student group from the University of Michigan\, whose efforts led to a massive “Teach-In on the Environment” which drew tens of thousands of people. This was just one of many teach-in events that took place in 1970 and kicked-off Earth Day as we know it.\n\n50 years later\, you are invited to this “Teach-Out” to engage in an intergenerational and interdisciplinary conversion about what sustainability means across different sectors\, disciplines\, and lived experiences. You will explore themes including global sustainability efforts\, climate change\, environmental justice\, and more\, to inspire you to take action on Earth Day and beyond. Together\, we will collectively develop visions for a sustainable\, just\, and peaceful world.

SUMMARY:Exhibition:Birds Fly In: Oil Painting
DESCRIPTION:Birds first flew onto Ellie Harold's canvases in 2016\, appearing to her as intuitive messengers of hope and healing for troubled times. She paints intuitively to music\, spontaneously\, with no plan in mind and with as little thought as possible. She sees the first marks of black calligraphy as the hint of a language revealing bird wisdom hidden beneath successive layers of color. She paints the white layer last\, unifying all of the elements in the painting. Harold uses not only a brush\, but also fingers\, squeegee and oil sticks to capture the fleeting nature of birds. An ordained Unity minister\, Harold aims for this series to inspire the discovery of inner solutions to difficult issues that have so far eluded resolution by ordinary means.

SUMMARY:Exhibition:Flora Series: Woven Wire Sculpture
DESCRIPTION:Anne Mondro is an artist and a professor in the U-M Penny W. Stamps School of Art and Design. In this body of work\, she reflects on how time spent in nature has inspired new personal discoveries and intellectual curiosity\, while serving as a positive distraction from recent experiences with grief and sadness. Drawing from these insights\, Mondro crocheted and stitched fine wire to create intricate woven sculptures reminiscent of seeds\, pods and other organic forms. Focusing on the wonderfully complex construction of these forms\, Mondro mimics nature’s ability to be structurally strong while delicate in appearance to invite deeper exploration.

SUMMARY:Exhibition:Gouache Paintings
DESCRIPTION:Jaye Schlesinger is a full time painter living and working in Ann Arbor. Her work includes realist oil paintings of common everyday objects and abstracted subjects portrayed in gouache (opaque watercolor) on paper. This recent body of work evolved from years of photographing rooftops\, playgrounds\, houses and aerial views\, and digitally manipulating them to create colorful and quirky compositions. The scenes are not intended to be specific locales\, but rather to celebrate the color\, shape\, rhythm and structure found in our daily environment. Gouache is a medium which requires slow and careful application and reflects the artist’s view of painting as a meditative pursuit.

SUMMARY:Exhibition:Migrations: Fiber Notes from the Journey
DESCRIPTION:Migration has profoundly affected the life and perspective of the Michigan-based fiber artist\, Martina Celerin. Celerin’s family emigrated from Czechoslovakia to Canada in 1968 as political refugees escaping Soviet rule. Both a molecular geneticist and artist\, her artistic medium is a sophisticated blend of highly dimensional weaving\, crochet\, needle felting\, and other fiber-based techniques that incorporates everyday reclaimed and recycled materials to help tell a story. The pieces on exhibit are drawn from a larger body of work that translates the extraordinary challenges of modern-day human migration and notes the parallel phenomena in animals.

SUMMARY:Exhibition:What We Hold\, What Holds Us: Homes & Vessels
DESCRIPTION:Although Candace Compton Pappas is recognized primarily as a painter\, this series of constructed homes and vessels represents an important facet of her life as an artist. Over the years\, she has collected\, saved\, garbage-rescued\, and gathered objects that capture her attention. A firm believer that there is no such thing as garbage\, and a great observer of nature’s cycle of creating and breaking down\, she has constructed numerous cement vessels to hold all these objects that proliferate the studio. These finds\, the vessels that hold them\, and the totems that pay tribute to them\, all keep her company\, inspire her\, and keep her calm in her temple-like studio in the woods outside of Chelsea\, Michigan.

SUMMARY:Lecture / Discussion:[CANCELED] MAS Lecture | The Wooster Site: Overview of Prehistoric and Historic Occupations and Discussion of Previous and Upcoming Excavations
DESCRIPTION:The Wooster Site is a large\, multi-component prehistoric and historic Native American site located at a natural crossing point on the Portage River in northeastern Jackson County\, Michigan. It has yielded several thousand artifacts ranging from Paleolithic spear points to historic musket flints. \n\nDan Wymer\, who owns 23 of the 29 acres comprising the Wooster Site\, has invited MAS members to join him in April for a day of excavation at the site. The exact date will be determined by how soon the frost leaves the ground and the soil dries out enough to be sifted. The focus of the excavation will be a previously cultivated area that yielded 10\,000-year-old Agate Basin artifacts during controlled surface collecting. MAS members who would like to participate in the dig are asked to attend this presentation in order to become familiar with the site and the details of how the April dig will be conducted.\n\nThis lecture is sponsored by the Michigan Archaeological Society.\nTo learn more about the MAS\, please visit http://www.miarch.org/\n\nMAS Lectures are free and open to the public. If you are a person with a disability who requires an accommodation to attend this lecture\, please contact the Kelsey Museum education office (734-647-4167) as soon as possible. Please be aware that advance notice is necessary as some accommodations may require more time for the university to arrange.

SUMMARY:Exhibition:Abstraction\, Color\, and Politics in the 60s and 70s: Kaleidoscope
DESCRIPTION:The notion that abstraction was a purely formal and American art form\, concerned only with timeless themes disconnected from the present\, was met with increased skepticism in the midst of the political and cultural upheavals of the 1960s and 70s. Kaleidoscope\, UMMA’s third and final edition of this exhibition series\, examines the constantly changing practices of local Detroit artists\, women artists\, and artists of color as they actively embraced abstraction’s possibilities. Their strategies dramatically transformed the practice of abstraction in a shifting American political landscape.\n\nSupport for this exhibition is provided by the University of Michigan Office of the Provost\, the Richard and Rosann Noel Endowment Fund\, the Herbert W. and Susan L. Johe Endowment\, the Susan and Richard Gutow Endowed Fund\, and the Robert and Janet Miller Fund

SUMMARY:Exhibition:Collection Ensemble
DESCRIPTION:Collection Ensemble presents the first major reinstallation of UMMA's iconic entry space in over a decade. It exchanges Alumni Memorial Hall's previous focus on European and American painting for a broad mix of American\, European\, African\, and Asian art from across media\, sampling the Museum's remarkable\, disparate holdings. The installation is organized into thematic and formal vignettes that respond to the concepts and ideas resonating from an extraordinary large-scale photograph of a vacant cathedral by contemporary German artist Candida Höfer. Featuring works of art by numerous famous and not-so-famous artists\, many of them artists of color and women—including Charles Alston\, Christo\, Theaster Gates\, Jenny Holzer\, Roni Horn\, Do-Ho Suh\, Kara Walker\, and others\, Collection Ensemble reimagines the collection not as a fixed entity with one set of meanings to be unearthed\, but instead as an active\, creative\, sometimes startling source of material and ideas\, open for debate and interpretation.\n\n

SUMMARY:Exhibition:Cullen Washington\, Jr.: The Public Square
DESCRIPTION:This expansive look at the work and concerns of emerging contemporary artist Cullen Washington\, Jr. pivots around the artist’s most recent series\, Agoras. The compositions explore the ancient Greek public space as a site for activated assembly and the heart of the artistic\, spiritual\, and political life of the city. UMMA’s installation is designed with an actual public square at its center\, complete with sound components featuring noted political and aesthetic discourse and surrounded by Washington’s soaring monumental collages. Works from four earlier series by the artist form the perimeter of the Museum’s largest special exhibition space. The artist describes his work as “abstract meditations on the grid and humanity.”\n\nLead support for this exhibition is provided by Erica Gervais Pappendick and Ted Pappendick\, Candy and Michael Barasch\, the University of Michigan Office of the Provost\, Michigan Medicine\, the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs\, and the Institute for the Humanities. Additional generous support is provided by the University of Michigan Department of History of Art\, School of Education\, Department of Afroamerican and African Studies\, School of Social Work\, and Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy.

SUMMARY:Exhibition:Reflections: An Ordinary Day
DESCRIPTION:UMMA’s second exhibition of Inuit art derived from the Power Family’s generous promised gift to the Museum in 2018 explores the relationship between the artist and the representation of everyday experiences. Through a selection of mid-century to contemporary Inuit prints\, drawings\, and sculptures that portray seemingly ordinary reflections of daily life along with daydreaming meditations\, the exhibition bridges the mundane and the fantastic. Together\, these artworks present a distinct imagery and a visual poetry culled from the day-to-day reality of life in the far polar north. The perspectives range from soaring gazes at the horizon to glimpses of commonplace social interactions. These contemplations reveal intimate connections among the artists\, their communities\, and their locale—a specific place and time composed of icy regions and vast seas and tundras. Reflections: An Ordinary Day takes visitors on a lyrical journey of the myriad spaces and routines within an Arctic landscape.\n\nThis exhibition is made possible by the Power Family Program for Inuit Art\, established in 2018 through the generosity of Philip and Kathy Power.

SUMMARY:Exhibition:Witness Lab
DESCRIPTION:Designed as a courtroom installation and a performance series by Roman J. Witt Artist in Residence Courtney McClellan\, Witness Lab frames witnessing as a social and artistic act. The gallery collapses courtroom\, theater\, classroom\, laboratory\, and artist studio in order to study the relationship between performance and law. In hosting mock trials\, court transcript readings\, and trial advocacy workshops\, the artist investigates who performs the role of witness in our society and how that understanding may map onto the narrower legal definition of the role. The installation will host legal simulations from participating groups\, including the Trial Advocacy Society and the Oral Argument Competition from the University of Michigan Law School\, as well as the undergraduate team of the Collegiate American Mock Trial Association. Taking the role of courtroom sketch artists\, or court reporters\, students from the U-M Stamps School of Art and Design will observe and document the courtroom performances through drawing\, text\, photography\, and video.\n\nWitness Lab is presented in partnership with the Roman J. Witt Artist in Residence Program of the Penny W. Stamps School of Art & Design\, with lead support provided by the University of Michigan Law School and Office of the Provost.

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:A Data Scientist Plays Games
DESCRIPTION:This event will be hosted online via Zoom\n\nA Data Scientist Plays Games:  This is a presentation broken down into two parts.  The first is how to use mathematical techniques to analyze classic card and board games\, and the second part is how data science techniques were applied in real life to support games on the Facebook platform.  This presentation is about 1.5 hours\, with a target audience probably suited to CS/software engineering.  It’s light-hearted and fun.\n\nNick Berry\, a native of the UK\, has lived in Seattle for the last 25 years. He was educated as a rocket scientist and aircraft designer\, graduating with a Masters Degree in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering.\n\nUpon graduation\, he joined a group of friends to form a software company\, specializing in electronic mapping and route planning. This company was grown organically\, and earned an unprecedented number of awards and accolades\, including the British Design Award and The Queen’s Award for Technology\, presented by Her Majesty in 1991. In 1994 Nick was recognized by the Sunday Times Magazine as “One of the top 50 entrepreneurs of the decade”. In 1994\, after the company had grown to 50 people worldwide\, it was sold to Microsoft.\n\nNick moved to America with the sale and spent 14 years working for Microsoft\, the last ten of which were in the Microsoft Casual Game team. During his tenure\, he filed a variety of patents for Microsoft\, and represented Microsoft at various conferences and speaking engagements.\n\nAfter leaving Microsoft\, he joined RealNetworks to work as the GM of customer analytics for their games division\, GameHouse.\n\nAfter GameHouse\, Nick spent five years as a Data Scientist\, working for Facebook in their Seattle office.\n\nIn addition to his engineering expertise\, Nick is passionate about data privacy and holds a CIPP qualification from the International Association of Privacy Professionals. He is an active member of the privacy community and speaks at various events about the legal and ethical aspects of data collection\, use\, and destruction.\n\nIn July 2013\, Nick gave a TEDx talk about Passwords and the Internet\, and in 2015 was nominated by GeekWire as Geek-of-the-week. In 2019 he was recognized as one of the 50 over 50 in the video games industry.

DESCRIPTION:This class interaction with the Witness Lab project is open to the public for observation. Seating is limited. Visit our project in action. \n \nDesigned as a courtroom installation and a performance series by Roman J. Witt Artist in Residence Courtney McClellan\, Witness Lab frames witnessing as a social and artistic act. Public programs\, classes\, and mock trial performances investigate who plays the role of the witness in our society\, and help us to understand truth within our legal system.\n \nIn her investigation of America’s courts\, McClellan’s practice engages K-12 and university classes across a spectrum of disciplines including law\, drama\, and anthropology\, among others. \n \nDue to the nature of the project\, the schedule for all Witness Lab events and simulations are subject to change without notice and changes may not always be reflected in online listings.\n\nWitness Lab is presented in partnership with the Roman J. SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:BME 500: Lonnie Shea
DESCRIPTION:NOTICE: This event will be hosted via Blue Jeans. The link will be provided below.\n\nBlue Jeans Link: https://umich.bluejeans.com/902489900\n\nThe promise of precision health is typically associated with the early detection of disease\, and the identification of an individually tailored therapy to extend healthspan while also reducing costs. I will discuss our work on immune engineering\, as the immune system is essential to health\, and consequently immune dysregulation can lead to disease. Autoimmune disease has been increasing in prevalence for the past few decades\, and results from the immune system attacking healthy tissues\, such as in Type 1 Diabetes or Multiple Sclerosis. Current treatments typically involve suppressing the entire immune system\, despite the immune system attacking specific proteins. Based on the function of the immune system\, we have developed nanoparticles that re-program immune responses to specific antigens leading to tolerance to those antigens and leaving the remainder of the immune system intact. The nanoparticles maintain the antigen until internalization by immune cells\, with subsequent presentation of the antigen coincident with down-regulation of the co-stimulatory factors and up-regulation of negative co-stimulators. In addition to reprogramming specific immune responses\, a need exists for technologies that can detect autoimmune disease initiation prior to substantial destruction of healthy tissues. We have applied tissue engineering principles to generate tissues subcutaneously that function as an immunological niche\, which can be accessed easily to avoids risks associated with biopsy of native tissues (e.g.\, brain\,) and thereby report on immune status within tissues. Technologies for detecting disease at the earliest stages combined with reprogramming specific cellular responses represent major opportunities for Precision Health to improve health while containing costs.\n\nSpeaker biography:\n\nLonnie Shea is the Chair of the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Michigan (U-M)\, which is joint between the College of Engineering and the School of Medicine. He received his PhD in chemical engineering and scientific computing from U-M in 1997\, working with Professor Jennifer Linderman. He then served as a postdoctoral fellow with then ChE Professor David Mooney in the Department of Biologic and Materials Science at the U-M Dental School. Shea was recruited to Northwestern University’s Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering and was on the faculty from 1999 to 2014. In 2014\, Shea was recruited back to the University of Michigan as chair of the Department of Biomedical Engineering\, with his recruitment coinciding with the endowment of the chair position by William and Valerie Hall. He is the Steven A. Goldstein Collegiate Professor of Biomedical Engineering and is an internationally recognized researcher at the interface of regenerative medicine\, drug and gene delivery\, and immune-engineering\, whose focus is on preventing tissue degeneration or promoting tissue regeneration. His projects include islet transplantation for diabetes therapies\, nerve regeneration for treating paralysis\, autoimmune diseases and allogeneic cell transplantation\, cancer diagnostics\, and ovarian follicle maturation for treating infertility. He is currently PI or co-PI on 5 NIH grants (4R01’s\, 1 R21). The nanoparticle technology for immune tolerance has led to the formation of a company that is leading a series of clinical trials. Shea has published more than 240 manuscripts\, and has numerous inventions to his credit. He is the PI for the Coulter Foundation Translational Research grants committee at the University of Michigan. He served as director of Northwestern’s NIH Biotechnology Training Grant. He has received the Clemson Award from the Society for Biomaterials\, is a fellow of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) and the Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES)\, a member of the editorial boards for multiple journals such as Molecular Therapy\, Biotechnology and Bioengineering\, and the Journal of Immunology and Regenerative Medicine.

SUMMARY:Lecture / Discussion:CANCELLED: EIHS-Women's Studies Lecture: Ukuphazama iNatali: Bringing Queer and Indigenous Studies Approaches to South African History and Beyond
DESCRIPTION:How can critical indigenous and queer theoretical approaches transform the way we think about colonial history in South Africa (and beyond)? If settler colonialism itself is presented as a form of orientation\, of making a recognizable and inhabitable home space for European arrivals on indigenous land\, then native peoples and their continued resistance can serve to ‘queer’ these attempted forms of order. In such circumstances\, the customs\, practices\, and potentially the very bodies of indigenous peoples can become queer despite remaining ostensibly heterosexual in orientation and practice\, as their existence constantly undermines the desired order of an emergent settler state.\n\nT.J. Tallie is an assistant professor of African history at the University of San Diego. He specializes in the comparative settler colonial and imperial history\, with a focus on South Africa. His interests include colonialism\, gender and racial identity\, indigeneity\, sexuality\, and religious expression. He is the recent author of Queering Colonial Natal: Indigeneity and the Violence of Belonging in Southern Africa.\n\nFree and open to the public. \n\nThis event presented by the Department of Women's Studies and the Eisenberg Institute for Historical Studies. It is made possible in part by a generous contribution from Kenneth and Frances Aftel Eisenberg.

SUMMARY:Lecture / Discussion:Chair's Distinguished Lecture | Power Star: Harvesting in the Sun's Energy in Space
DESCRIPTION:David Hyland\nProfessor Emeritus of Texas A&M University\nPresident of Augusta Quantum Electrodynamics\, Inc.\n\nThe advance of civilization will require substantially more powerful sources of energy than are presently available. Aside from the Earth’s supply of radioisotopes and fossil fuels\, the abundant supply of fusion-based energy produced by the sun remains to be efficiently harvested. The collection of solar energy in space could potentially be an order-of-magnitude more effective than ground-based technology because in space\, solar insolation is continuous and not attenuated by the atmosphere. These potential advantages have motivated efforts to design space solar power systems since the early 1960s. \nA solar power system consists of a space segment that collects solar energy\, converts the energy into radiation (typically in a wavelength band to which the atmosphere is mostly transparent)\, then transmits the radiation to a ground facility that converts the radiation into electrical power. Since the ground-based power collection technology is (relatively) well developed\, we concentrate here on the space segment\, called the Solar Power Satellite(s) (SPS).\n\nIn this presentation\, an SPS is assumed to be a space system in geostationary orbit that collects solar power via photovoltaics and transmits it to ground collection stations using microwave radiation. Previous system designs developed over the past several decades entail gigantic\, articulated structures with many (in some cases\, thousands of) moving parts and require on-orbit infrastructure and in-space construction using advanced robotics. The concept described here combines solar cell / microwave patch antenna printing technology with well-established inflatable satellite technology (based upon the Echo relay satellites). A Power StarTM is a large\, deployable\, thin-skinned balloon upon which solar cells and microwave transmitters are printed. For launch\, the system is compactly folded into a spherical canister. Once attaining orbit\, the canister is opened\; the balloon inflated via sublimation of an interior coating\; the skin rigidified\, and the balloon finally evacuated. I review the state of manufacturability in printing technology\, inflatable satellite technology\, the retro-directive phased array technology for beam direction and shaping\, and the power distribution design to address the “elbow problem”. Considerations of solar pressure effects\, orbit maintenance\, and thermal response are also presented. \n\nIn summary\, while capable of substantial power generation\, even with low efficiency solar cells\, the design has no moving parts\, requires no in-space construction\, and can be packaged in many existing launch vehicle payload fairings. With these features\, and according to current economic analyses\, the design can provide a first revenue system in one launch.\n\nAbout the speaker...\n\nAt the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Dr. Hyland was awarded the S. B. degree in Aeronautics and Astronautics in 1969 and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees\, also in Aeronautics and Astronautics in 1971 and 1973\, respectively. From September 1969 through July 1983\, Dr. Hyland served at the MIT Lincoln Laboratory as Staff Member. \n \nBeginning in August 1983\, Dr. Hyland led the Structural Control Group within Harris Corporation. He served as Principal Investigator and Chief Scientist for numerous research programs for NASA and the Air Force. In February 1992\, Dr. Hyland was promoted to Senior Scientist and assigned to the Senior Staff of the Vice President of Engineering of the Aerospace Systems Division. Dr. Hyland joined the faculty of the University of Michigan\, Ann Arbor\, on May 1\, 1996 and served as Full Professor with tenure and Chairman of the Aerospace Engineering Department until September 1\, 2003. \n\nHe joined Texas A&M University in 2003 as Associate Vice Chancellor of Engineering\, Associate Dean of the Dwight Look College of Engineering\, holder of the Wisenbaker Chair of Engineering\, Professor of Aerospace Engineering in the College of Engineering and Professor of Physics in the College of Science. Resigning his administrative appointments in 2006\, Dr. Hyland served as Director of Space Science and Space Engineering Research along with the academic positions named above.\n\nIn 2016\, Dr. Hyland retired from Texas A&M University as Professor Emeritus and is now President of Augusta Quantum Electrodynamics Inc\, conducting advanced research in quantum optics for a variety of applications.

SUMMARY:Other:Pushing the boundaries of H/D exchange-mass spectrometry to analyze glycans
DESCRIPTION: Glycans are complex molecules with different carbohydrate subunits\, linkage stereochemistries\, and branching patterns\; all of which play a role in their biological functions. Hydrogen / deuterium exchange–mass spectrometry (HDX-MS) has become a standard method for analyzing conformations and binding interactions of solvated proteins. Carbohydrates\, model systems for glycans\, are susceptible to HDX since they contain labile hydrogens\, primarily in the form of hydroxyls\, which can be labeled with deuterium (D) upon exposure to deuterated solvents. However\, compared to backbone amides\, the functional group detected in traditional HDX-MS experiments for proteins\, the exchange rate of glycan hydroxyls is two to eight orders of magnitude faster\, depending on solution pH. This rapid exchange rate makes it unfeasible to monitor HDX of carbohydrate hydroxyls using traditional\, bottom-up HDX methods. \nHerein\, we describe our ongoing efforts to characterize solvated carbohydrates. We perform rapid HDX by introducing deuterating reagents (e.g. D2O) to carbohydrates during electrospray ionization (ESI). Our work illustrates that these rapid\, in-ESI HDX methods characterize solvated carbohydrates rather than gas-phase structures. Furthermore\, we have coupled our experimental work with molecular dynamics simulations to identify the mechanism of carbohydrate ionization during ESI. Experimentally\, we have quantified how ESI source conditions alter the magnitude of HDX for carbohydrate model systems\, developed an internal standard to control for daily humidity differences\, and established methods to alter the HDX labeling time on the microsecond to millisecond timescale. We are now applying these in-ESI HDX methods to characterize carbohydrate isomers and non-covalent carbohydrate-protein interactions.\n \n \n \nElyssia Gallagher (Baylor University)

SUMMARY:Performance:*CANCELED* My One and Only
DESCRIPTION:**In accordance with the Unversity-wide measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19\, this production has been canceled. Ticketholders will receive more communication soon.**\n\nTap your feet to the Gershwins’ timeless tunes!\n\nMusic by George Gershwin\nLyrics by Ira Gershwin\nBook by Peter Stone and Timothy S. Mayer\nDirected and Choreographed by Linda Goodrich\nMusic Direction by Catherine A. Walker\n\nMy One and Only is a delightfully frothy romp\, buoyed by a tuneful Gershwin score and exuberant dance numbers. Conceived as a new book for the Gershwins' most-loved songs\, My One and Only features such standards as ‘’S Wonderful\,” “Funny Face\,” “I Can’t Be Bothered Now\,” “Strike Up the Band\,” “Nice Work If You Can Get It” and “Kickin’ the Clouds Away.” It's 1927 New York\, and aviator Billy Buck Chandler is determined to be the first man to fly solo across the Atlantic. His plans are derailed when he meets Edyth Herbert\, a British ingénue who previously swam the English Channel and now performs in an Aquacade under the thumb of the villainous Prince Nikki. Can the two navigate the obstacles in their path as they sing and dance their way toward love?\n\nMy One and Only opened on Broadway in 1983 starring Tommy Tune and Twiggy. It was a huge success\, garnering nine Tony Award nominations and three wins for Best Actor\, Best Featured Actor\, and Best Choreography. The latter award\, shared by star Tommy Tune and his co-choreographer Thommie Walsh\, was especially well deserved: critic Frank Rich of The New York Times said that the show “levitates with some of the most inspired choreography Broadway has seen in several seasons.” With numerous show-stopping dance numbers set to timeless Gershwin tunes\, My One and Only guarantees a toe-tapping good time!

SUMMARY:Performance:CANCELLED - The Sweet Remains
DESCRIPTION:The Sweet Remains consist of three gifted and charismatic singer-songwriters\, each of whom contribute to the writing and the three-part harmonies that define the band's sound. Driven by strong lyrical and melodic writing\, their songs easily appeal to fans of modern folk-rockers like Jason Mraz\, Ray Lamontagne\, and John Mayer. However\, it is their lush harmonies\, that distinguish The Sweet Remains from the throngs of guitar-toting troubadour\, harking back to supergroups of the 60's and 70's like CSN\, the Eagles\, and Simon & Garfunkel. When Rich Price\, Greg Naughto\, and Brian Chartrand met for a chance jam session in a Rhode Island hotel room in 2008\, the three instantly recognized a musical blend and kinship that would eventually overcome geography (and solo careers) to form The Sweet Remains. Since then they've toured as far away as Denmark and Germany\, and gained critical raves from the likes of the Boston Herald\, which wrote that \"it's been a long time since three-part harmonies this lush were yoked to songs this melodically gorgeous.\" Come and luxuriate in the sounds of the harmony trio of the year! The Sweet Remains come to town with new music—they've been releasing a song a month.
