Born in Lagos, she grew up in Hamburg and has lived and worked in Berlin since the 1990s. After training as a stage actress, Hagen then appeared in numerous film productions and television series, before returning to theater in 2010. Across her career, Hagen has worked on film projects as author, director, and producer. *Auf den zweiten Blick (At Second Glance)* is her debut film as a director. One particularly powerful technique is direct stochastic optical\r\nreconstruction microscopy (dSTORM), a widely-used type of single molecule localization microscopy (SMLM), which is based on the temporal separation of the emission of individual fluorophores\r\nand subsequent localization analysis. This eventually allows to reconstruct a super-resolved image revealing details down to typically 20 nm in a cellular setting. The key point here is the achievable localization precision, which mainly depends on the image contrast generated by the individual fluorophore\u2019s emission. We found that reflective metal-dielectric nano-coatings represent a tunable nanomirror that can do both quenching and boosting fluorescence for high-contrast imaging on the nanoscale. Such mirror-enhanced fluorescence is very different from other surface effects based on total internal reflection microscopy or optoplasmonics. While surface-plasmon supported fluorescence methods provide much higher enhancement factors, mirror-enhanced approaches are more versatile and thus highly suitable for modern bio-imaging. The resolution improvement achieved with such mirror-enhanced STORM (meSTORM) is both spectrally and spatially tunable and thus allows for dual-color approaches on the one hand, and selectively highlighting region above the cover glass on the other hand. Even if the resulting resolution boost is based on a near-field effect and thus restricted to imaging near surfaces, a large variety of membrane fluorescence approaches even beyond SMLM benefit. The unforgetting\u2014the inability to remember or forget, or to articulate memories in a meaningful way\u2014has been due to the state\u2019s suppression, shame and guilt, historical ideology, and the changing politics. This book is the story of the changing memories and the variable conditions for silence over the past forty years.\r\n \r\nThongchai Winichakul is Emeritus Professor of History at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His book, *Siam Mapped: a History of the Geo-body of a Nation* (1994), was awarded the Harry J Benda Prize from the Association for Asian Studies (AAS, USA) and was translated into Japanese, Korean, Chinese, and Thai. He was a recipient of the John Simon Guggenheim Award in 1994. and was President of the Association for Asian Studies in 2013\/14. TPRS-Forest estimation uses the projected coordinates of a spatial variable and decomposes it into three components: spatial trend, systematic variation along the spatial trend, and random noise. The first stage uses thin-plate regression splines (TPRS) to approximate a non-stationary spatial trend, or a change in the conditional mean across the region of observation. Because TPRS represents an approximation, this stage does not model all spatial dependencies. To compensate, the second stage performs a random forest regression on the TPRS residuals, which accounts for systematic variation along the spatial trend. The final stage takes the filtered residuals from the second step and tests for any remaining spatial correlative structure, using a global and local Moran test. This proposed method merges together two literatures of spatial modelling \u2013 geoadditive models (Kammann & Wand, 2003; Wood, 2017) and spatial random forests (Georganos et al., 2019; Hengl et al., 2004, 2018) \u2013 and anchors them in a social scientific conceptual framework. In developing this method, my primary goal is to provide a way for social scientists to descriptively model their data and produce a set of continuous predicted values while minimizing the assumptions on how best to model their data's spatial properties.\r\n\r\nThe primary function of the Interdisciplinary Seminar in Social Science Methodology (I3SM) is to provide an interdisciplinary forum for students and faculty to present their current projects and to receive feedback on either the methodological component of their project or a methodology under development. Dillard\nAngela D. Dillard is the Richard A. Meisler Collegiate Professor of Afroamerican and African Studies in the Residential College, and Professor of History. She is an interdisciplinary scholar trained in history and political theory with a Ph.D. in American studies, from the U-M\u2019s Department of American Culture. She specializes in American and African-American intellectual history, particularly around issues of race, religion and politics\u2014on both the left and the right sides of the political spectrum. Monitoring and anticipating the trajectory of lava flows is therefore the best approach to reduce losses and mitigate the risks associated with this phenomenon. Lava flow emplacement dynamics (speed, rheological behavior, morphology, length) depend mainly on the topography, the volumetric flow at the vent, the volume emitted, and the rheology of the lava itself. Lava rheology is directly linked to temperature, chemical composition and to petrology (major element composition, redox state, volatile content, and shape and size of bubbles and crystals). During flowing, upon cooling the thermal gradient along and across the flow evolves continuously and triggers crystallization associated with evolution of the residual liquid chemical composition. This dynamic process has a direct influence on lava viscosity, which lets the flow to stop when rheological parameters are such they impede further motion. We present here how lava viscosity is measured in the lab and in the field and how its evolution down flow may be modelled. To anticipate lava flow trajectory and maximum length, we then set up a protocol that merges a stochastic approach to model the flood zone and a thermo-rheological model to calculate the distance reached as a function of the effusion rate. The present study takes some steps towards answering those questions: We used diffusion modeling to identify which aspects of cognitive processing were affected by loss incentive in a working memory task with varying retention intervals in young and older adults. Our results confirm some previous findings suggesting opposite responses to loss by young and older adults, help identify which aspects of processing are most affected in each group, and reveal some surprising beneficial effects of longer retention intervals. A series of on-site historic plaques and an exhibition of Dorothea Lange\u2019s incarceration photographs at a nearby train station serve as background to study the development of the new memorial. The design and iconography of the future Tanforan memorial \u2013a figurative bronze surrounded by a landscaped memorial plaza\u2013 are analyzed alongside the motivations of the main actors that have shaped it: a group of memory activists, a transit agency, and a shopping mall developer. \u201cExtending Apologies\u201d argues that these past and future commemorative interventions reveal the tensions between an unsettled memorial landscape and the Japanese American community\u2019s ongoing demands for apology.\r\n\r\nBio: Valentina Rozas-Krause received her Ph.D. in Architecture (History, Theory & Society) from the University of California, Berkeley. She is an architect with a Master\u2019s Degree in Urban Planning from the Pontificia Universidad Cato\u0301lica de Chile. Her field of study encompasses architecture, urbanism, and landscape from the nineteenth century to the present, with particular research and teaching interests in memory, postcolonialism, preservation, public space, social justice, and gender. Valentina has published two books. The first, Ni Tan Elefante, Ni Tan Blanco (Ril, 2014), is an urban, architectural, and political history of the National Stadium in Chile. The second is the co-edited volume Disputar la Ciudad (Bifurcaciones, 2018) which deals with spatial strategies of oppression, resistance, memory and reparation within varying urban contexts. These join peer-reviewed articles in History & Memory, e-flux, Latin American Perspectives, Anos 90, ARQ, Revista 180, Cuadernos de Antropolog\u00eda Social, and Bifurcaciones alongside a chapter in the edited volume Neocolonialism and Built Heritage (Routledge, 2020). Her research has been supported by numerous fellowships and grants, including a Mellon\/ACLS Dissertation Completion Fellowship, a Townsend Center for the Humanities Dissertation Fellowship, a John L. Simpson Research Fellowship in International and Comparative Studies from UC Berkeley, a DAAD Dissertation Research Grant, and a Becas Chile Grant. Valentina is currently working on a book project titled Memorials and the Cult of Apology, which examines how contemporary memorials aim to atone for past injustices. The sensibilities of both locations heavily influence her work with the body, race relations, and gender bias.\u00a0\r\n\r\nRoberta Fallon, co-founder of Artblog, describes Ms. Evans as, \u201cone part Wonder Woman, one part agent provocateur.\u201d And writer Seph Rodney of Hyperallergic and the New York Times wrote: \u201cI have seen [this] artist actually stop traffic on the Bowery in downtown Manhattan in 2016, where, in a floor-length lace gown, a dollar-store tiara and full makeup, she placed a chair in the street to do chair dips.\u201d\r\n\r\nEvans began her career as a painter earning her MFA from Tyler School of Art at Temple University and her BA in Visual Arts from Brown University. During the summer of 2016 Evans completed her installment of the residency, \"Back in Five Minutes\" at El Museo Del Barrio in NYC. The next year she completed a endurance-based 10-hour, citywide performance and 100-person performative dinner party at the Barnes Foundation in 2017 for \"A Person of the Crowd,\u201d a major performance art survey featuring artists such as, Marina Abramovic, Tania Bruguera, and William Pope L. in Philadelphia, PA. Her international work includes participation in: FIAP performance festival in Martinique, The Pineapple Show at Tiwani Contemporary in London, and Ghana's Chale Wote festival, which drew 30,000 people. Evans has received numerous fellowships and awards including: Studio Immersion Fellowship Program at EFA\u2019s Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop (2018); Artists Alliance Inc (2018); Franklin Furnace Fund for performance art (2017-2018); New York Foundation of the Arts Fellow for Interdisciplinary Arts (2018); and an artist in resident for Art on the Vine at Martha's Vineyard (2019). In addition to her numerous guerilla street performances, Evans has performed at the Queens Museum, Crystal Bridges Museum, Newark Museum, and the Bronx Museum. During 2018 and 2019 Evans had three solo exhibitions with Medium Tings Gallery (Brooklyn), Cuchifritos Gallery (NYC) and the EFA Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop with New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA) at Governors Island, NY. She has been featured in The\u00a0New York Times, Bomb Magazine, ArtNet, The Cut, Hyperallergic, and CNN.
