SUMMARY:Film Screening:CMENAS Virtual Viewing: *Stray*
DESCRIPTION:For a limited time\, we are sponsoring free access to this film's virtual viewing. For instructions\, please email cmenas@umich.edu with the subject “Request to watch ‘Stray'”\n \nAbout the film:\nThrough the eyes of three stray dogs wandering the streets of Istanbul\, STRAY explores what it means to live as a being without status or security. As they search for food and shelter\, Zeytin\, Nazar and Kartal embark on inconspicuous journeys through Turkish society that allow us an unvarnished portrait of human life — and their own canine culture.\n \nZeytin\, fiercely independent\, embarks on solitary adventures through the city at night\; Nazar\, nurturing and protective\, easily befriends the humans around her\; while Kartal\, a shy puppy living on the outskirts of a construction site\, finds refuge with the security guards who care for her. The disparate lives of Zeytin\, Nazar and Kartal intersect when they each form intimate bonds with a group of young Syrians who share the streets with them.\n \nWhether they lead us into bustling streets or decrepit ruins\, the gaze of these strays act as windows into the overlooked corners of society: women in loveless marriages\, protesters without arms\, refugees without sanctuary. The film is a critical observation of human civilization through the unfamiliar gaze of dogs and a sensory voyage into new ways of seeing.\n\nCo-sponsor: Michigan Theatre

SUMMARY:Exhibition:For Your Eyes Only
DESCRIPTION:Please Note: This exhibition is designed to be viewed through the gallery window on Thayer St.\n\nYasmine Nasser Diaz is the 2021 Efroymson Emerging Artist at the Institute for the Humanities.\n\nFor Your Eyes Only is the latest iteration of multidisciplinary artist Yasmine Nasser Diaz’s bedroom installation. At first glance\, the constructed space is a shimmering homage to the bedroom disco—a sanctuary for uninhibited dance and self-expression. It has also become the setting from which many personal videos are made and shared widely on social media\, where platforms such as Instagram and TikTok have blurred the boundary between public and private. Projected into the space is a montage of casual videos shared by female-identifying and non-binary persons of SWANA* origin dancing solo in their rooms. To some\, the videos may seem innocent and innocuous\, but they can also be seen as acts of defiance that assert the autonomy of bodies that have been surveilled\, scrutinized\, and censored throughout history. Alongside these intimate moments is a separate reel showing political figures and protest movements from the SWANA region. The images demonstrate the fluctuating attitudes and regulations impacting human rights and freedoms based on gender\, and exemplify how—whether we are physically at a protest or sharing our physicality in virtual spaces—our bodies are engaged in some level of risk.\n*Southwest Asian/North African\n\nThis project is supported by a grant from the Efroymson Family Fund.

SUMMARY:Conference / Symposium:Securing Demand for COVID19 Vaccinations in LMICs
DESCRIPTION:Presented in partnership by Chemonics International and the Global Health Supply Chain Summit group\, the goal of this webinar is to help the global community understand COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy and adequately address community and health systems-level obstacles. \n\nThis 1.5-hour webinar hosted by Chemonics International and GHSC Summit will bring together practitioners\, community leaders\, and other critical stakeholders to share insights regarding community objections to COVID-19 vaccinations and key considerations for health systems to ensure vaccine uptake.\n\nAs different countries start the process of vaccinating their populations with the various COVID-19 vaccines\, they have struggled with critical issues—not the least important of which is how to ensure enough demand for vaccination. To achieve herd (community) immunity\, 70–85% of the population must be vaccinated. The challenge of ensuring high demand for vaccination is a difficult and complicated challenge: Some refuse to be vaccinated because they do not trust the government and health organizations\, some refuse for religious reasons\, and others refuse because they simply do not believe that vaccines can provide the desired protections. Service-related issues like waiting times at vaccination facilities\, distance from home to the facilities\, the cost of vaccination\, and side effects all affect the population’s willingness to be vaccinated.\n\nEach community has its own reasons for vaccine hesitancy. It is crucial for government and health organizations to understand and identify the different and complex causes of vaccine hesitancy and design\, as rapidly as possible\, efforts to minimize hesitancy and its consequences. Service-related issues must also be considered. The location of vaccination facilities is crucial. These facilities must have the right equipment\, they should not be too far from the relevant population\, and they must employ the right personnel to vaccinate the population quickly with minimal waiting time. In addition\, countries must have robust and secure information systems that maintain information about the time of vaccination\, the type of vaccine\, and other important details. This is essential for keeping track of the services that have been provided and the services yet to be provided and reminding people of the importance\, timing\, and location of the next actions they must take.\n\nFrench interpretation provided.\n\nMODERATORS: \n•	Dr. Baz Semo\, Managing Director\, Global Health Programs\, Global Health Division\, Chemonics International\n•	Dr. Noel Watson\, Principal/Founder\, Ops Mend\nPANELISTS: \n•	Dr. Katherine Bliss\, Senior Fellow\, Global Health Policy Center\, Center for Strategic and International Studies \n•	Rev David Oginde\, Former Presiding Bishop Christ Is the Answer Ministries (CITAM)\, Chancellor of Pan Africa Christian (PAC) University.\n•	Dr. Githinji Gitahi\, Global CEO\, Amref Health Africa\n•	Dr. Laxmikant Palo\, Chief Executive Officer of PPHF \n•	Dr. John Oladejo\, Director for Health Emergency Preparedness and Response at the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC)

SUMMARY:Lecture / Discussion:CREES Noon Lecture. Resettlement or Return? Shifting IDP Attitudes in Ukraine
DESCRIPTION:In 2016 the number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Ukraine reached 1.6 million\, the vast majority of whom fled the conflict in the Donbas region of Eastern Ukraine\, initiated in early 2014. In this paper\, Cynthia Buckley focuses on how the duration of displacement\, household composition\, and region of resettlement among the displaced in Ukraine challenge and inform both policy and demographic approaches to internal forced migration and explore the implications of this sizable displacement for regional population trends and demands on state capacity in the long term. Employing Ukrainian government data\, UNHCR reports\, and a longitudinal set of surveys by the International Organization for Migration\, Professor Buckley explores relationships between IDP characteristics and region of resettlement and their intentions to return to pre-displacement areas of residence. Findings extend our understanding of the challenges raised by displacement for the Ukrainian state\, in addition to inviting a reconsideration of more general approaches to IDP processes and implications.\n \nCynthia Buckley is a CREES Visiting Scholar for the 2020-21 academic year. Professor Buckley received her Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Michigan in 1991 before joining the faculty of the University of Texas\, Austin. Between 2010-12 she served as the Program Director for Eurasia at the Social Science Research Council\, later moving to the Department of Sociology at the University of Illinois\, Urbana-Champaign. A social demographer\, her research focuses on the main drivers\, and implications\, of demographic change across Eurasia and appears in numerous academic journals\, policy briefs\, assessment reports\, and edited volumes. Her current research focuses on a MINERVA-funded investigation of state capacity challenges in the areas of healthcare (including COVID-19)\, elections\, and education in the multicultural countries of Estonia\, Georgia\, and Ukraine (with Ralph Clem and Erik Herron)\, and a solo book project on population change and social stability in Central Asia.\n \nRegistration is required for this Zoom webinar at https://myumi.ch/2DqvA\n\nIf there is anything we can do to make this event accessible to you\, please contact us at crees@umich.edu. SUMMARY:Lecture / Discussion:HET Brown Bag Seminar | Freeze-in versus Glaciation: freezing into a thermalized hidden sector
DESCRIPTION:The standard freeze-in paradigm has a hidden UV sensitivity in that the initial DM population is assumed to be exactly zero. We explore how a pre-existing population of DM\, either alone or as part of a thermalized dark sector\, affects the dynamics of freeze-in. The UV sensitivity of this more general scenario\, which we dub “glaciation”\, is manifested in the dependence of the late-time relic abundance on the size of the initial population. We dispense rather quickly with the case of a stand-alone initial DM abundance\, which simply leads to an offset in the relic abundance compared to the standard scenario\, but we find rich and interesting dynamics in the case of a pre-existing thermalized dark sector. Our results have important consequences for direct detection experiments searching for freeze-in dark matter.

SUMMARY:Presentation:Social Area Brown Bag: Leader Emotional Unpredictability Tears Teams Apart: Effects on Power Struggles and Team Performance
DESCRIPTION:Abstract:\nEmotional displays of leaders convey social information to followers that can help bolster their motivation and understanding of the situation\, thereby facilitating team performance. An implicit assumption in previous theorizing and research using this social-functional approach to leader emotions has been that leaders’ emotional expressions logically follow from the situation for followers and thus help followers who observe these expressions to better understand the situation. However\, leaders’ emotional expressions are not always predictable to followers. We extend the social-functional approach by investigating what happens when leader emotional displays are perceived as unpredictable by followers. We propose that leader emotional unpredictability sparks uncertainty among followers about how the leader allocates ranks and resources within the team\, which triggers intra-team power struggles. Such power struggles—intra-team conflicts over resources among followers—in turn undermine team performance. Using a multi-method approach\, we find support for our model in three studies\, including two laboratory experiments and a field study of 246 retail teams. The findings inform our understanding of how leaders’ emotional displays influence team performance\, extending the social-functional approach to emotion by illuminating how the perceived unpredictability of leaders’ emotional expressions can be dysfunctional for teams.

SUMMARY:Lecture / Discussion:NCF talks followed by Q&A
DESCRIPTION:The Nineteenth-Century Forum would like to invite you to two talks followed by a Q&A with: \nSober Postdoctoral Fellow\, Ross Martin and Graduate Candidate\, Srdjan Cvjeticanin \n\n‘On Emerson’s Revolutionary Ecstasies: Cardiovascular Exuberance and Anti-Slavery Thinking’ presented by Ross Martin \n\nSince Richard Poirier began undoing the notion that Ralph Waldo Emerson proposes a mode of individualism that is stable and resists releasing itself into the world beyond it\, some influential readers—from Stanley Cavell\, to George Kateb\, to Sharon Cameron\, to Branka Arsić—have furthered Poirier’s account\, reintroducing us to an Emerson who regards life as open and overflowing. Benefiting from the exuberant thinking of Margaret Fuller and Georges Bataille (read alongside Emerson)\, my talk elaborates on the Emersonian scholarship of recent decades to discuss overabundance from a cardiovascular standpoint as a surging tide that rushes through concentric expansions\, and so the scientific impetus for Emerson’s anti-slavery thinking. Augmenting Emerson’s scientific abolitionism with archival evidence\, I further investigate his study of Emanuel Swedenborg—the Enlightenment scientist turned mystic—whose lost hematology dissolves anatomical boundaries so that the inward intensity of individuality must release itself and transfigure. Briefly reconstructing Emerson’s Swedenborgianism\, my talk uncovers a vision of ontological fecundity unfurled over his career that merges Swedenborg with an emerging strain of American radicalism exemplified by the Haitian Revolution. Finally\, I turn to Toussaint Louverture who for Emerson represents the heart’s emancipatory powers\, thus situating revolutionary change in an overactive heartbeat at the center of a momentous movement. With Louverture\, Emerson at last identifies the dawning of a new age\, an upheaval in residual experience through an utmost ecstasy.\n\n‘A nothing tormented by a nothing’ presented by Srdjan Cvjeticanin\n\nIn \"The Mast-Head\,\" the thirty-fifth chapter of Moby Dick\, Ishmael makes the following assertion: \"For nowadays\, the whale-fishery furnishes an asylum for many romantic\, melancholy\, and absent-minded young men\, disgusted with the cracking cares of earth\, and seeking sentiment in tar and blubber.\" The ensuing chapter\, \"The Quarter-Deck\,\" proves him right. With a rousing speech\, Ahab seduces his entire crew into abandoning their material interests and risking their lives in order to seek revenge against a whale\, a whale on whose white hump he piled \"the sum of all the general rage and hate felt by his whole race from Adam down.\" No sooner than Ahab stops to take a breath\, the Pequod's decks erupt into a deafening chant of  \"Death to Moby Dick.\" The capture is immediate. It happens so quickly and with such ease that Ahab confesses surprise. Why was it so simple\, so effortless to convince the entire crew to follow a madman into madness? The second chapter of my dissertation\, \"A nothing tormented by a nothing\,\" investigates the answer to this question. It does this by first conceptualizing the historico-philosophical conditions animated in Moby Dick and then constructing the theory of the subject operative in Melville's works (esp. Moby Dick\, Pierre\, Bartleby). After this\, I turn to Moby Dick and the \"Whiteness of the Whale\,\" by way of which I establish the crucial difference between Ishmael and Ahab\, and propose an answer for why Ishmael alone survives. I conclude by constructing the political theory I understand to be embedded in Melville's fictions and arguing for the political function of aesthetics. My talk covers the first part of this chapter.

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:Social\, Behavioral & Experimental Economics (SBEE): Bias Intolerance: Predicting Condemnation of Apologetic Perpetrators of Prejudice
DESCRIPTION:Abstract:\nWhen public figures are accused of perpetrating prejudice\, they often apologize. Whereas an apology may indicate to some that the perpetrator has changed and deserves forgiveness\, other onlookers may continue to condemn them. What predicts condemnation\, even when a perpetrator apologizes? In the present paper\, we explore two factors that may jointly lead to this bias intolerance: Strong motivation to address bias coupled with beliefs that bias cannot change. Across five studies\, we examined White and straight participants’ (N = 1\,617) evaluations and condemnation of an apologetic ingroup perpetrator of anti-Black and anti-gay prejudice\, respectively\, as a function of beliefs that bias can change and motivations to address bias. Whether measured or manipulated\, greater belief that bias cannot change predicted evaluating the perpetrator as currently more biased and believing they would be more biased in the future\, compared to belief that bias can change. This relationship was not moderated by motivation to respond without prejudice. Believing bias cannot change did not straightforwardly predict greater condemnation. Among participants who believe bias cannot change\, those who were internally motivated to respond without prejudice were particularly likely to be “bias intolerant.” We also considered additional factors that might shape evaluations and condemnation of past prejudice and found that participants’ collective guilt was related to both greater prejudice evaluations and greater condemnation. By signaling anti-prejudice norms\, bias intolerance has the potential to reduce the expression of prejudice.\n\nFor information on how to watch this lecture and sign up for the SBEE mailing list to receive notice of upcoming events\, please visit the SBEE website:\nhttps://umbee.github.io/SBEE_Seminars

SUMMARY:Livestream / Virtual:Fiction and Motivation in Medieval Art
DESCRIPTION:Abstract: Since the Ancient World\, engagement with visual art has recognized that perception has tremendous powers to reconfigure ‘stuff’ imaginatively. Aquinas\, for example\, stated that it is possible to separate representation and configuration. Later aestheticians\, informed by analytical philosophy\, referred to this capacity as ‘aspectual seeing’: seeing something ‘in’ a configuration\, or more radically seeing the configuration ‘as’ something. This lecture returns to ‘aspectual seeing’ in the belief that it illuminates current debates about materiality\, illusion\, emotion and fiction in medieval art. In particular\, it will reflect on (if not solve) the question of what human engagement with fictions consists of\, whether that engagement can motivate us to action and\, if so\, what that engagement tells us about the art-life divide as presently understood by some art historians and critics.\n\n\nPaul Binski writes widely on general issues of aesthetics\, rhetoric and the visual arts in the Middle Ages. He is Emeritus Professor of the History of Medieval Art at Cambridge University and a Fellow of Caius College\, Cambridge. He is a Fellow of the British Academy and a Corresponding Fellow of the Medieval Academy of America\, and was Slade Professor\, Oxford University\, 2006-7. He delivered the British Academy Aspects of Art Lecture\, 2001\, and the Paul Mellon Lectures\, National Gallery\, London and Yale University\, 2002-3. His publications include Becket’s Crown. Art and Imagination in Gothic England 1170-1300 (2004)\, Gothic Wonder: art\, artifice and the Decorated Style 1290-1350 (2014) and most recently Gothic Sculpture (2019). Later this year he will be Franklin D. Murphy Lecturer at the University of Kansas.

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:Labor Economics: Changes in Assortative Matching: Theory and Evidence for the US
DESCRIPTION:Abstract:\nThe extent to which like-with like marry is particularly important for inequality as well as for the outcomes of children that result from the union. In this paper we discuss approaches to the measurement of changes in assortative mating. We derive two key conditions that a well-defined measure should satisfy. We argue that changes in assortativeness should be interpreted through a structural model of the marriage market\; in particular\, a crucial issue is how they relate to variations in the economic surplus generated by marriage. We propose a very general criterion of increase in assortativeness\, and show that almost all indices used in the literature are implied by our criterion with one notable exception\, that moreover violates one of our conditions. Finally\, we use our approach to evaluate the evolution of assortative matching in the US over the last decades\, and conclude that assortative matching has increased\, particularly at the top of the education distribution.\n\n* To join the seminar\, please contact at econ.events@umich.edu

SUMMARY:Lecture / Discussion:Community Cultural Wealth\, Program Evaluation\, and ASEE CDEI\, Oh My!
DESCRIPTION:As a sociologist who has been working in STEM and Engineering Education for 18 years\, and who isn’t on the tenure track\, Liz will share a little bit about a few different areas (Research\, Evaluation\, and Service) that she has focused on in her career.  Assets-based frameworks for understanding student experience are receiving more and more visibility these days and Liz’s work has used critical race theory Community Cultural Wealth (Samuelson & Litzler\, JEE 2016) to understand the ways minoritized engineering undergraduates deployed their cultural assets to persist in engineering. She is also now working on further Community Cultural Wealth research with her colleagues on the PNW-LSAMP project.  She will also talk about using her social science research skills to conduct high quality program evaluation of projects focused on improving DEI in STEM.  Finally\, she’ll share about the work of the ASEE Commission on Diversity\, Equity\, and Inclusion\, of which she is the current chair. CDEI is a great resource for the community and also a wonderful opportunity to develop new connections with colleagues while providing important service to the engineering education field.

SUMMARY:Lecture / Discussion:MIPSE Seminar | Rethinking the Art of Plasma Etch
DESCRIPTION:The seminar is free and open to the public.\nTo request the Zoom link\, please send an email to:\nmipse-central@umich.edu\n\nAbstract:\nSince the 1970s\, the semiconductor industry has fabricated electronic circuits using a plasma based pattern-transfer approach that is remarkably reminiscent of the etching artform used centuries ago. Only now\, the patterns are a million times smaller and driven by the wafer fab equipment industry. The most advanced plasma etching technique in production today is called atomic layer etching (ALE) in which a single layer is re-moved in a cyclic manner. This talk will review the ALE approach in comparison to conventional plasma etching techniques\, such as Reactive Ion Etching (RIE). As RIE reaches its fifth decade\, its drawbacks have become apparent. ALE offers better control by isolating steps in time and switching between the steps in a repeatable cycle. To the extent that an ALE process behaves ideally – with high ALE synergy and self-limiting behavior – the primary benefit is improved uniformity across all length scales: at the surface\, between different aspect ratios\, and across the full wafer. Another benefit that will be highlighted is the atomic-scale smoothness in topography of the surface left behind after etching. The underlying mechanism and benefits of plasma ALE will be described\, providing insight into the plasma science be-hind the ancient art of etching. Overall\, ALE is simpler to under-stand than conventional plasma etch processing\, and is proving to be important as we apply the art of etch at the atomic scale.\n\nAbout the Speaker: \nRichard A. Gottscho is Executive VP\, Chief Technology Officer at Lam Research since May 2017. He previously was Executive VP\, Global Products Group beginning August 2010\; and group VP and general manager\, Etch Businesses beginning March 2007. He joined Lam in January 1996 and has held various director and VP roles spanning deposition\, etch\, and clean products. Prior to joining Lam\, he was at Bell Laboratories for 15 years\, where he headed research departments in electronics materials\, electronics packaging\, and flat panel displays. In 2016\, Dr. Gottscho was elected to the National Academy of Engineering. He has received several awards\, including the AVS Peter Mark Memorial Award\, AVS Plasma Science and Technology Division Prize\, the Dry Process Symposium Nishizawa Award\, and the Tegal Thinker Award. He is a fellow of the APS and AVS. He has authored numerous papers\, patents\, and lectures\, and has served on journal editorial boards and program committees for major conferences in plasma science and engineering. He served as vice-chair of a National Research Council study on plasma science. Dr. Gottscho earned Ph.D. and B.S. degrees in physical chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Pennsylvania State University\, respectively.

SUMMARY:Livestream / Virtual:CCMB / DCMB Weekly Seminar Series Featuring Duncan K. Ralph (Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center)
DESCRIPTION:Abstract: Antibodies are an integral part of the adaptive immune response\, and are a critical component of both vaccine-induced and naturally-acquired immunity. The development of deep sequencing approaches in recent years has allowed us to sample a significant fraction of the diverse repertoire of B cell receptor sequences from which antibodies are made. These sequences encode a wealth of information on the somatic rearrangement and evolutionary processes that determine the contours of our antibody repertoires\, and thus our ability to respond appropriately to pathogens and vaccines. Extracting this information\, however\, requires a careful inference approach across several different analysis steps. I will describe the computational approaches that we have taken to solving these problems\, which constitute the partis software package\, and describe their application in several projects\, including HIV and Dengue data.\n\n* * *\n\nBiography: Duncan attended the University of California at Santa Cruz for his undergraduate studies in physics\, completing his thesis on energy transport in condensed matter theory in 2005. He completed his PhD at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2014\, working on the Large Hadron Collider at the European particle physics laboratory (CERN). His thesis described the observation of Higgs boson decays to four leptons. Since 2014\, he has worked in Frederick Matsen’s lab at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center\, first as a postdoctoral researcher and more recently as a staff scientist\, writing new computational methods for the analysis of B cell receptor deep sequencing data.\n\nhttps://umich-health.zoom.us/j/93929606089?pwd=SHh6R1FOQm8xMThRemdxTEFMWWpVdz09

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:Michael Beauregard Seminar in Macroeconomics: Consumer Bankruptcy as Aggregate Demand Management
DESCRIPTION:Abstract: \nWe study the role of consumer default policy in macroeconomic stabilization. Our economy features nominal rigidities\, incomplete financial markets\, and heterogeneous households with access to unsecured defaultable debt. In addition to its traditional role of balancing the ex-ante cost of credit against the ex-post benefit to defaulters\, the optimal bankruptcy code features an aggregate demand management objective. Consumer bankruptcy acts as an automatic stabilizer whenever the average consumption effect of default\, or “ACED” (the causal effect of default on consumption\, normalized by the level of debt)\, is larger than the marginal propensity to consume of savers. When entering a recession\, the optimal policy is lenient on past debts\, but promises to be harsh on future debts to encourage credit supply. We study quantitatively the extent of business cycle amplification under consumer different bankruptcy codes\, and the effectiveness of bankruptcy rules that systematically respond to the business cycle.\n\n* To join the seminar\, please contact at econ.events@umich.edu

SUMMARY:Livestream / Virtual:Dr. Berj H. Haidostian Annual Distinguished Lecture | Recovering an Art: David Ohannessian and the Armenian Ceramics of Jerusalem
DESCRIPTION:Please register in advance for the webinar here: http://myumi.ch/AxDMx\n \n After registration\, you will receive a confirmation email with instructions on how to join the webinar.\n \n Along the cobbled streets and golden walls of Jerusalem\, brilliantly glazed tiles catch the light and beckon the eye. These colorful wares—known as Armenian ceramics—are iconic features of the Holy City. Silently\, these works of ceramic art—an art that graces homes and museums around the world—also represent a riveting story of resilience and survival. In 1919\, David Ohannessian founded the art of Armenian ceramics in Jerusalem\, where his work and that of his followers is now celebrated as a local treasure. Born in an isolated Anatolian mountain village\, Ohannessian mastered a centuries-old art form in Kütahya\, witnessed the rise of violent nationalism in the waning years of the Ottoman Empire\, endured arrest and deportation in the Armenian Genocide\, founded a new tradition in Jerusalem under the British Mandate\, and spent his final years\, uprooted once again\, in Cairo and Beirut. Ms. Moughalian will detail the lineage of her grandfather David Ohannessian’s ceramic tradition and document the critical roles his deportation and his own agency played in its transfer—aspects of the story obscured in the art historical narrative. She will speak about the process of coming to terms with her family’s past\, the ways in which that served as an impetus to excavate and reconstruct her grandfather’s history through archival research\, and the importance of preserving the stories of peoples displaced through migration.\n \n Sato Moughalian is the author of “Feast of Ashes: The Life and Art of David Ohannessian” (Redwood Press/ Stanford University Press\, 2019). She is also an award winning flutist in New York City and Artistic Director of Perspectives Ensemble\, founded in 1993 at Columbia University to explore and contextualize works of composers and visual artists. She serves as principal flutist of the American Modern Ensemble and Gotham Chamber Opera\; guest flutist with groups including Imani Winds\, American Ballet Theatre\, American Symphony Orchestras\, and the Orquestra Sinfonico do Estado São Paulo\, Brazil. She can be heard on more than thirty chamber music recordings for Sony Classics\, BIS\, Naxos\, as well as on YouTube\, Spotify\, and other major music platforms. Since 2007\, Ms. Moughalian has traveled to Turkey\, England\, Israel\, Palestine\, and France to uncover her grandfather’s traces\, has published articles\, and gives talks on the genesis of Jerusalem’s Armenian ceramic art.\n \nIf there is anything we can do to make this event accessible to you\, please contact us. Please be aware that advance notice is necessary as some accommodations may require more time for the university to arrange.
