associated with siting and building renewable energy projects in the United States, Canada and Mexico.\r\n\r\nWe'll hear from three researchers\u2014one from each of the three countries\u2014who have studied how such project proposals are received by host communities in their respective countries, and the associated political and governance issues.\r\nFrom the speakers' bios\r\n\r\nSarah Mills is a senior project manager at the University of Michigan's Graham Sustainability Institute, where she manages the Climate and Energy activities. This includes a grant from the Michigan Office of Climate and Energy to help communities across the state consider energy in their land use planning, zoning and other policymaking. Sarah also conducts research at the intersection of energy policy and land use planning-- especially in rural communities. Her current work focuses on how renewable energy development impacts rural communities (positively and negatively), the disparate reactions of rural landowners to wind and solar projects, and how state and local policies facilitate or hinder renewable energy development. Some of this research is in conjunction with the Ford School Renewable Energy Support Fund. She has a PhD in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Michigan, a Masters in Engineering for Sustainable Development from the University of Cambridge, and a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Villanova University.\r\n\r\nHeather Millar is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of New Brunswick. Her research interests include Canadian provincial energy and climate politics; risk perception, policy learning and feedback; and social acceptance of new technologies. Heather is also affiliated with the Institute for Science, Society, and Policy at the University of Ottawa and the Environmental Governance Lab at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy at the University of Toronto. Heather has recently published research articles on provincial climate and energy policy in Environmental Politics, Review of Policy Research, and Policy Sciences.\r\n\r\nI\u00f1igo Mart\u00ednez Peniche is a PhD Candidate in Political and Social Sciences, with a focus on international relations, at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM)'s School of Political and Social Sciences. He received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from UNAM as well. His research interests include the geopolitics of energy and natural resources; energy integration and regionalization processes; global, regional, and local governance of climate change; energy transition; climate change; and the socio-environmental impacts of energy infrastructure projects. He has 15 years of experience in legislative work, particularly in the Chamber of Deputies. He is also an independent consultant on energy and climate change issues. He currently works as an Advisor in Energy and Climate Change for POLEA, a Mexican environmental NGO. This program was enacted by Title I of the Housing Act of 1949 and was one of the largest and most controversial location-based economic development policies used to rehabilitate neighborhoods in the United States. I construct a new spatial dataset documenting the locations of approximately 200 urban renewal projects across 28 U.S. cities. I use this newly constructed dataset to examine the characteristics of neighborhoods cleared for redevelopment and the effect that urban renewal projects had on neighborhoods over time. I show that conditional on experiencing urban blight, black neighborhoods were between two and three times more likely than white neighborhoods to be targeted for slum clearance. Further, the resulting redevelopment led to a persistent decline in population density, housing density, and in the share of black residents in directly treated neighborhoods. Simultaneously, median rents and median incomes increased. These results are consistent with predictions from a spatial equilibrium model of locational choice. Molecular cluster complexes inspired by surface chemistry have been studied for decades as a way to capitalize on the advantages of metallic surfaces while avoiding the scaling relationships that govern their activities. Progress in this area has been hampered, however, by the lack of ligand architectures able to provide an appropriate degree of geometric and electronic flexibility to the cluster core.\r\nThis talk will describe our use of macrocyclic, multi-nucleating ligands that have been designed to bind small metal clusters (2 4 metal atoms) in a way that mimics M\u00e2\u0080\u0093M bonding. Doing so allows for both facile electron redistribution within the cluster-ligand assembly and a high density of thermally accessible electronic states. These ligands have the added advantage of providing the geometric flexibility needed for stabilizing a range of surface-relevant species. Examples include diiron dinitrogen complexes that exist in a geometry reminiscent of the side-on binding of N2 to the Mittasch catalyst, a diiron-supported sp hybridized bridging nitride that converts into an sp3 hybridized bridging amide following hydrogen atom transfer, and the first (putative) dicobalt bridging nitride \u00e2\u0080\u0093 a highly reactive species that mimics aspects of surface nitrides that develop during NH3 oxidation in the Ostwald Process. While answers to these questions often focus on processes at the time of learning (memory encoding) or during the act of retrieval, a wealth of evidence now indicates that neurocognitive states that precede attempts to remember also have powerful influences on whether those imminent attempts will succeed or fail. Here, I present recent work from functional neuroimaging, electroencephalography, pupillometry, and behavioral science to propose an integrative framework that explains variance in remembering in the moment and across individuals as a function of interactions among preparatory attention, goal coding, and mnemonic processes. I also consider how this \"readiness to remember\" framework can partially explain variance in other functions of memory, such as prospection and creative thinking, at state and trait levels, as well as mnemonic disruptions linked to aging and everyday multitasking with media. Given our social media driven landscape, these videos have become a key mode of advertising for South Korean clinics hoping to entice Western and\/or English-speaking foreigners into traveling abroad for surgery. Focusing on videos and interviews with specifically non-Korean, US-born YouTubers, in this talk I show how these self-filmed YouTube videos are remaking reality television\u2019s Makeover genre. In so doing, these videos enact the South Korean \u201clook,\u201d made popular by K-pop idols, as global by literally showcasing non-Korean bodies being transformed as such. In addition to selling South Korean plastic surgery, I argue that these videos animate US K-pop fans\u2019 fantasies of South Korea as a multicultural alternative to hegemonic whiteness.\r\n\r\nS. Heijin Lee is Assistant Professor of Social and Cultural Analysis at New York University whose research explores the imperial routes of culture and media. In addition to her forthcoming book, The Geopolitics of Beauty, which maps the convergence of pop culture and plastic surgery coming from South Korea, Lee is co-editor of Fashion and Beauty in the Time of Asia (NYU Press, 2019) and Pop Empires: Transnational and Diasporic Flows of India and Korea (University of Hawai'i Press, 2019). The amendment also prescribes priorities the MICRC must address when drawing new district maps, placing the concept of \u201ccommunities of interest\u201d (COIs) near the top of the list. \r\n\r\nAt this webinar, Michigan Independent Citizens Redistricting Commissioners Douglas Clark, Rebbeca Szetela and Dustin Witjes will introduce themselves and discuss plans for their first public hearings, which will take place all over the state in May and June. As a retired operations and development manager, Commissioner Douglas J. Clark, Jr. affiliates as a Republican on the MICRC. During his career, Commissioner Clark worked for large, multinational companies and served in the U.S. Army as a Captain in various armor and air cavalry units. In applying to serve on the MICRC, Commissioner Clark, resident of Rochester Hills for 43 years, believes that it is important to ensure a fair and impartial redistricting process. Being processoriented, Commissioner Clark recognizes the role that process plays in determining independent maps for Michigan Congressional, House and Senate districts.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nKathay Feng is Common Cause\u2019s National Redistricting Director.\r\nFeng has led Common Cause\u2019s work to challenge partisan and incumbent gerrymandering, through litigation, state-based organizing around ballot initiatives and legislation and creating new platforms for community-based redistricting. As Executive Director of California Common Cause, she championed and won election and redistricting reforms, stronger government sunshine and accountability laws, campaign finance reforms, stronger net neutrality laws, and the voting rights of traditionally disenfranchised communities. Kathay is the architect of California\u2019s Citizens Redistricting Commission, leading the multi-year effort to study, write, and pass the two initiatives, Propositions 11 and 20, that created the commission and new community-focused process. She also led efforts that secured passage of California laws bringing online voter registration and same day registration (called conditional voter registration) to the state.\r\nLocally, Kathay helped lead successful efforts to improve Los Angeles\u2019 matching funds campaign finance system, providing a super-match of public funds to city office candidates that raise small dollar donations from city residents. Under Kathay\u2019s leadership, CCC has anchored California\u2019s election protection efforts, assisting and independently monitoring elections throughout the state, since 2006. Kathay has been an activist and civil rights attorney in California for more than 20 years.\r\nBefore joining Common Cause in 2005, she headed the Voting Rights and Anti-Discrimination Unit at the Asian Pacific American Legal Center. She helped the center secure key voting rights, anti-hate crime, language rights and consumer rights laws while also working on high profile hate crimes cases, civil liberties advocacy, and election monitoring and polling. Her advocacy led to creation of the Los Angeles County Office of Independent Review, which provides citizen oversight over the Los Angeles Sheriff\u2019s Department on issues ranging from discrimination to use of force. She serves, or has served, on numerous boards including the California Secretary of State\u2019s Advisory Committee on Voter Participation and Outreach, the LA County Human Relations Commission, and the Asian Pacific Policy and Planning Council. She is a graduate of Cornell University, and holds a law degree from UCLA School of Law.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nColleen Mathis is former Chair of Arizona\u2019s Independent Redistricting Commission (2011-2021). \r\nAs a registered Independent from Tucson, Arizona, Colleen Coyle Mathis volunteered to serve and was unanimously chosen as chair of the Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission by the four appointed commissioners in 2011. Her position ended in January 2021 when the new chair was appointed. Colleen has shared her experience in other states seeking to adopt independent redistricting as well as at numerous conferences and forums. Colleen earned a master\u2019s degree in environmental management from Yale University and a bachelor\u2019s degree in economics from the University of Illinois. She is a demand consultant for Large Mining Trucks at Caterpillar, an affiliate of the Institute for Quantitative Social Science at Harvard University and principal at Willet Creek Consulting, specializing in nonprofit management, communications and business development.\r\n\r\n\r\nAndre Parvenu is State Commissioner at California State Citizen's Redistricting Commission.\r\nAndre Parvenu is a multi-disciplinary professional with a strong background in Planning, Public Affairs, and Community Relations.\r\n\r\nMr. Parvenu has gained professional experience as a Geographer, Urban Planner, Community Outreach Specialist, and former City Planner and Zoning Analyst with the Los Angeles Department of City Planning. He presently serves as a California State Redistricting Commissioner, and is a member of the Technical Advisory and Community Outreach Committees. He also serves as a volunteer Planning Consultant\/Advisor for several Neighborhood Councils in the City of Los Angeles. Prior experiences have included Project Manager, Community Relations Manager, and Senior Communications Officer for the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro); and Transportation Planning Manager for the Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) Community DASH program. Mr. Parvenu has also worked as a Community Partnership Specialist with the United States Census Bureau (Department of Commerce), a Crisis Relocation Planner with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and as a Migration Specialist with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Central America, in association with the Belize Ministry of Home Affairs. As a lawyer, Commissioner Rebecca Szetela affiliates as an Independent on the MICRC. She also serves as the MICRC Vice Chairperson. In applying to serve on the MICRC, Commissioner Szetela believes that Michigan citizens from across the political spectrum can cooperatively create balanced legislative maps that ensure the fair representative of all Michigan voters in our election. Hailing from Wayne County for more than 45 years, Commissioner Szetela will also apply her experience as a daughter, wife, and mother of four children.\r\n\r\nNancy Wang is the executive director and a founding member of Voters Not Politicians, the grassroots group that led the successful 2018 ballot initiative campaign to amend the Michigan constitution to put voters, not politicians, in charge of redistricting in Michigan. In the 2020 election cycle, VNP launched the VoteSafe campaign to protect public health and the integrity of our elections during the COVID-19 pandemic. \r\n\r\nThrough the VoteSafe program, VNP volunteer teams have helped to expand voting access for over 800,000 Michigan voters in 17 cities and townships, and VNP educated voters statewide on their safe voting options. Nancy is an attorney and received her bachelor\u2019s degree in environmental engineering from the University of Michigan and her law degree from the University of Michigan Law School.\r\nDustin Witjes is a Commissioner on the Michigan Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission (MICRC). As a payroll specialist from Ypsilanti, Commissioner Dustin Witjes affiliates as a Democrat on the MICRC.
