The workshop will take place from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.; 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. (Eastern Time).\r\n\r\nJoin trained \u201cnose\u201d and educator Michelle Krell Kydd in a sensory exploration of the historic routes of trade from the Indian Ocean, the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea. In this experiential learning environment Kydd will lead teachers in exploring a \u201cscent flight\u201d of eight aromatic plant essences from Southeast Asia, India, the Middle East and North Africa, transforming the abstract nature of smell into articulated lived experience. Teachers will learn how to integrate olfactory experiences in classroom settings with an emphasis on the relationship between spirituality and smellscape in various rites and rituals.\r\n\r\nU-M Professor Jatin Dua will then provide an overview of the historical maritime trade of the Indian Ocean. See the parking map for more information.\r\n\r\nRemember to bring lawn chairs.\r\n\r\nWhen arriving at Fuller Park, follow wayfinding signage to the performance venue on Field #3 that will begin near the pool building.\r\n\r\nEnjoy the show!\r\n\r\n\r\nABOUT THE KISHI BASHI (duo):\r\nKishi Bashi is the pseudonym of singer, multi-instrumentalist, and songwriter Kaoru Ishibashi. Born in Seattle, Washington, Ishibashi grew up in Norfolk, Virginia where both of his parents were professors at Old Dominion University. As a 1994 graduate of Matthew Fontaine Maury High School, he went on to study film scoring at Berklee College of Music before becoming a renowned violinist. Ishibashi has recorded and toured internationally as a violinist with diverse artists such as Regina Spektor, Sondre Lerche, and most recently, the Athens, Georgia-based indie rock band, of Montreal.
