In 2005 Crowell published I Compianti Sul Christo Morto: Lamentation Groupings in Northern Italy to illuminate the distinguished history of ceramic materials in Quattrocento devotional and didactic sculpture, and to bring an understanding of their use and potential to contemporary ceramics practitioners. In April of 2016 Prof. Crowell exhibited her work in the conservatories of the Matthaei Botanical Gardens at the University of Michigan, and in May of 2017, at the Alden Dow Gardens in Midland, MI. In 2018 she conducted residencies and research at the Jean Noble Parsons Center for the Study of Art and Science in northern Michigan, and at A.I.R. Vallauris in Vallauris, France, where she exhibited her work in La chapelle de la place Lisnard that October.\r\n \r\nFor ten years, Crowell\u2019s research and artistic practice has focused upon pollen forms and the process of pollination. Deploying her appreciation of the role of technology in revealing the natural world, she applies the science and aesthetics of botany and apiculture toward the creation of ceramic sculpture, using cast and hand-built forms. In this study, we directly compared the functional connectivity patterns of large-scale brain networks in a group of youth with OCD to a group of youth with non-OCD anxiety. Specifically, resting-state functional connectivity was used to determine connectivity strength within and between the orbitofrontal-striatal-thalamic (OST) circuit, the cingulo-opercular network (CON), and the default mode network (DMN). The results of the current study identified greater functional connectivity within the CON, as well as between the CON and OST, in the OCD group as compared to the anxiety and healthy control groups. These findings indicate that previously noted network connectivity differences in pediatric patients with OCD were likely not attributable to co-morbid anxiety disorders. Additional conclusions from these analyses and their relevance for improving clinical outcomes will be discussed, as well as limitations of the current project. Hypothesizing that this risk is materially affected by the initial decision to enroll at the default rate or to personalize enrollment at a higher rate, we investigate the sensitivity of initial enrollment to non-economic features of digital design that increasingly shape plan engagement. Specifically, we describe three large scale field experiments, administered across 500 AE plans, that vary the psychological design (i.e., color, layout, phrasing, informational salience) of the digital interface from which employees decide to confirm, personalize, or decline enrollment. The field studies, supplemented by hypothetical choice experiments and a survey of hundreds of plan administrators, yield four findings. First, we show that modest changes to the psychological design of the interface result in sizable increases in personalized enrollment, full match take-\r\nup, and average contributions\u2014equivalent to those predicted from a 68 to 74 percent increase in the modal match. Second, we show that marginal personalized enrollees appear to increase their initial contributions substantially and to an extent equivalent to inframarginal counterparts, implying potentially significant welfare gains due to design. Third, lab evidence indicates that design does not affect enrollment through standard economic channels of preferences\/beliefs or often-cited behavioral frictions (inattention, confusion, distrust) and suggests instead that enrollment may emerge from a non-deliberative process in which design shifts affective appraisals. Finally, an industry survey shows that most plan administrators underestimate the potency of design and cannot identify optimal design elements. The background will be well-understood and kept at a sub-event level. Mu2e will be an indispensable piece of the global search for BSM over the next decade. The experiment is approaching a very important and exciting stage in its life-cycle. Construction is well underway. Many components have already been procured, delivered and fully tested. Operations are scheduled to begin in the upcoming years. Many interpretability tools have been (and are being) developed to address this challenge. In addition, attempts to build inherently interpretable machine learning model is becoming popular. This talk will start with an overview of the SML algorithms in banking and use some application to compare their performance. We will then describe techniques for machine learning interpretability and discuss some of our own research on post hoc methods, surrogate models, and inherently-interpretable models.\r\n\r\nJie Chen is Managing Director in Corporate Model Risk at Wells Fargo. She is currently managing the Cross-functional Model Validation team. She previously lead the Statistical Modeling and Machine Learning team in the Advanced Technologies for Modeling (AToM) Group for seven years, focusing on development of cutting-edge models, algorithms, and a computing platform to advance the Bank\u2019s practice in the areas of credit, operational, and market risk management. She has over ten year experience on machine learning, artificial intelligence and advanced statistics in the banking industry. Jie holds a Ph.D. in Statistics from the Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology.\r\n\r\nLinwei Hu is Vice President in the Advanced Technologies for Modeling (AToM) team inside Corporate Model Risk, Wells Fargo. Existing FNAs are prone to quenching by base pairing and stacking, are clustered at the blue\u2013green end of the visible spectrum, and have limited brightness as compared with conventional fluorophores. Studies of nucleic acid function would benefit greatly from overcoming these limitations. We have designed, synthesized, and studied a series of fluorescent pyrimidine analogues, aiming to address these limitations and develop a detailed understanding of the relationships between chemical structure and fluorescent responses to local environment in nucleic acids. Included in this series is a tricyclic cytidine analogue DEAtC that is nearly non-fluorescent as a nucleoside, but responds to matched base pairing and stacking with a fluorescence turn-on. A chlorinated tricyclic cytidine 8-Cl-tCO reports on local environment by changes in the vibrational fine structure of its emission spectra. To address the problem of limited brightness, we have design and synthesized a new NFA that we call ABN, which has a conjugated push\u2013pull system similar to those found in bright fluorophores such as rhodamines. ABN is the brightest known FNA when present in duplex nucleic acids, and it is readily detected in single-molecule fluorescence measurements using both 1-photon and 2-photon excitation. Collectively, these FNAs offer new capabilities for biophysical studies on nucleic acids. Waljee, is a Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine Dr. Waljee serves as the Associate Director of the Data and Methods Hub and the Director of the Michigan Integrated Center for Health Analytics and Medical Prediction (MiCHAMP) both at the UM Institute for Healthcare Policy & Innovation (IHPI). He also serves as the Director of the VA CCMR Prediction Modeling Unit (PMU) and, clinically, he is the Director of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease clinic both at the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System.\r\n\r\nDr. Waljee was born in Kenya and moved to the United States to complete his undergraduate and medical degrees at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. He then completed his residency and fellowship at the University of Michigan. Dr. Waljee holds a Master\u2019s degree in Health Services Research from the University of Michigan and completed a heath care policy fellowship at the Center for Health and Research Transformation.\r\n\r\nDr. Waljee\u2019s work is at the forefront of using machine learning and deep learning techniques to improve healthcare access, quality, and efficiency (high-value care) in resource constrained settings. He uses novel machine learning techniques to implement decision support systems and tools that facilitate more personalized care for disease management and healthcare utilization to ultimately deliver efficient, effective and equitable therapy for chronic diseases.
