SUMMARY:Other:Realm of the Dead
DESCRIPTION:Realm of the Dead is an installation/performance\, freely adapted from Rogério Pinto’s award-winning play\, Marília\, about his sister who died in an accident in the street outside the family home when she was three years old and he just tenth months. Comprising a solo performance and an installation that serves as a set for that performance\, Realm of the Dead is grounded in the work of the Brazilian theater artist Augusto Boal and in autoethnographic social work research and practice. These methodologies are recommended as vehicles for critical reflection\, self-healing\, personal growth\, and advocacy.\n\nThe Realm of the Dead installation comprises more than thirty suitcases\, each reflecting an aspect of Pinto’s multiple physical and spiritual journeys and representing the cemetery where Marília is buried. The performance\, directed by Erwin Maas\, also includes autobiographical material and explorations of ethnicity\, race\, gender\, class\, and other identities. The autoethnographic content of the piece has been reformatted into workshops for students at the University of Michigan’s School of Social Work.

SUMMARY:Exhibition:Animal/Vegetable/Mineral Art Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:In this RC Art Gallery exhibit\, Residential College and Penny W. Stamps School of Art and Design Professor of Art Susan Crowell presents\, among other works\, a series of wall plaques depicting endangered species. In Professor Crowell's effort to\, \"...question our interactions with the animal world and our impact upon it\,\" she has installed images of elephants and donkeys as protagonists and antagonists in political struggle\, and polar bears as victims of global warming. \n\n\"Animal/ Vegetable/Mineral presents an occasion to speak about my most compelling interests—plants and animals--within the mineral rubrics of clay\,\" she says.\n\nThis event is free and open to the public. Masks are required for all attendees. Vaccination is not required but highly encouraged. All attendees must complete a short questionnaire at https://responsiblue.umich.edu/sign-in before entering East Quadrangle.\n\nSusan Crowell is Professor of Art at the University of Michigan\, where she teaches ceramics and holds a joint appointment in the Residential College and the Penny W. Stamps School of Art and Design. A Fulbright Scholar\, she studied architectural ceramics at Centro Internazionale di Ceramica in Rome and directed and taught in the University of Michigan’s Program in Florence. Prof. Crowell conducts research and exhibits her work locally\, nationally and internationally. She has presented projects and exhibitions in Canada (at Banff)\, Japan (at Shigaraki and Miyazaki)\, Italy (Rome\, Venice and Florence)\, Taiwan\, Denmark and China\, as well as in France and the United States\, and she has participated in a variety of international venues and residencies. In 2005 Crowell published I Compianti Sul Christo Morto: Lamentation Groupings in Northern Italy to illuminate the distinguished history of ceramic materials in Quattrocento devotional and didactic sculpture\, and to bring an understanding of their use and potential to contemporary ceramics practitioners. In April of 2016 Prof. Crowell exhibited her work in the conservatories of the Matthaei Botanical Gardens at the University of Michigan\, and in May of 2017\, at the Alden Dow Gardens in Midland\, MI. In 2018 she conducted residencies and research at the Jean Noble Parsons Center for the Study of Art and Science in northern Michigan\, and at A.I.R. Vallauris in Vallauris\, France\, where she exhibited her work in La chapelle de la place Lisnard that October.\n \nFor ten years\, Crowell’s research and artistic practice has focused upon pollen forms and the process of pollination. Deploying her appreciation of the role of technology in revealing the natural world\, she applies the science and aesthetics of botany and apiculture toward the creation of ceramic sculpture\, using cast and hand-built forms. In doing so\, Prof. Crowell presents an expanded view of pollen within the problematics of industrialized honey production\, global commerce in apicultural products\, and genetically modified crops.. More recently\, she has created Thinning the Herd\, an installation of animal forms that addresses endangered species\, and Oppositional\, a commentary on contemporary political behavior in the United States.

DESCRIPTION:Buying Home\, Selling America: the House Catalog\, 1906-1966 brings to light the collection of house catalogs in the Art\, Architecture & Engineering Library’s Special Collections. Focusing primarily on the kit house industry of Michigan and the Midwest\, the catalogs provide a portal to explore multiple themes\, such as\, the Michigan house catalog industry\, changing architectural styles\, the business of selling homes\, societal and cultural implications\, and domestic technologies. We hope the exhibit is not simply a nostalgic view back\, but raises awareness of our domestic surroundings today and compels us to ask questions as we look to the future.\n\nThe exhibit is available in the Clark Library (second floor Hatcher) during Hatcher Library hours.

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:Variations In Biology Seminar Series: What can we learn about brain function by studying reptiles and cephalopods?
DESCRIPTION:The Center for Cell Plasticity and Organ Design alongside The Molecular\, Cellular\, and Developmental Biology\, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology departments and the Cell and Molecular Biology CMB/Genetics Training Program are proud to present Gilles Laurent.\n\n\nThe Model System revolution (which began in the 1980s and continues to this day) was driven by development of powerful genetic tools in a small group of organisms. While these popular models have driven major advances in many fields\, they represent a narrow slice of biological diversity. Evolution has created a smorgasbord of variations in biology that can be exploited to address interdisciplinary questions in fields spanning Development\, Cell Biology\, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. This seminar series aims to explore variations in biology and bring together audiences across the Biosciences at UM\, to foster interdisciplinary dialogue.\n \nWe look forward to your attendance.

SUMMARY:Exhibition:Respond / Resist / Rethink: A Stamps Student Poster & Video Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Over the last 12-18 months\, the world has witnessed the brutal impact of the COVID-19 pandemic compounded by systemic racism as it proliferated across the US\, threatening to stifle its vibrant and diverse society. Students and youth in the US and globally have been at the forefront of social change devising models of inclusion and care for those deeply impacted by the pandemic and racial and environmental inequities. \n Stamps Gallery invited students at the Penny W. Stamps School of Art &amp\; Design to design posters and make videos that respond to the prompt: what change would you like to see in your community? Stamps students created meaningful posters and video work that will be featured in Respond/Resist/Rethink 2021: A Student Poster &amp\; Video Exhibition. \n Why posters &amp\; video?\nFor generations\, posters have served as an effective tool to circulate ideas and messages to the public. Visually striking\, and designed to draw attention from passersby\, posters can be conversation starters\, invite people to pause\, reflect\, spread the word\, get involved. They have been a powerful medium for many conceptual artists and graphic designers to create powerful images and messages that could respond to immediate issues and be distributed widely. \n Similarly\, video art was another exciting immediate medium for conceptual artists in the 1960s and 1970s as the technology became more accessible to the masses. Video art provided an alternative to the dominant broadcasting corporations. Artists made experimental films\, recorded performances\, and first-person narratives that were then exhibited and screened at galleries\, museums\, and events. Posters and videos continue to be salient features in the 21st Century to respond to urgent issues and questions facing the present moment. \nRespond / Resist / Rethink asks the UM community to come together to envision models for inclusion that are grounded in equality\, belonging\, and empathy. The work featured in the exhibition were selected through an open call by a committee comprising Stamps faculty\, students\, and staff including Julianna Lew\, David Chung\, Najwat Rehman\, Albert Che\, and Stamps Gallery staff.

SUMMARY:Exhibition:Stephanie Dinkins: On Love & Data
DESCRIPTION:Stamps Gallery is proud to present the first survey of renowned transmedia artist Stephanie Dinkins\, who creates platforms for dialogue about artificial intelligence as it intersects race\, gender\, aging\, and our future histories. \nThrough her work\, Dinkins has become a central figure nationally and internationally recognized for exposing bias and inequity within artificial intelligence systems. Weaving together art production and exhibition\, community-based workshops and public speaking all with the intention of encouraging action towards making artificial intelligence systems more inclusive\, accessible and transparent. \n In this exhibition\, Dinkins will debut new and interactive installations and workshops that build on her concept of Afro-now-ism. In this poetic manifesto-like text\, Dinkins asks her audience\, particularly from communities of color\, to not only confront the litany of violences that humans have wielded upon one another based on the institutional and social constructions of race\, caste\, class\, and gender to maintain status quo and the current systems of power - but rise above it by taking action to start building the world that they desire. \nShe writes: “Instead of waiting to reach the proverbial promised land\, also known as a time in the future that may or may not manifest in your lifetime\, Afro-now-ism is taking the leap and the risks to imagine and define oneself beyond systemic oppression... For black people in particular\, it means conceiving yourself in the space of free and expansive thought and acting from a critically integrated space\, allowing for more community-sustaining work.” \n Through her installations and workshops Stephanie Dinkins: On Love &amp\; Data develops a dialogue with the audience on the hierarchies embedded within machine learning and AI architecture and one&#039\;s individual agency in transforming the algorithms within it. The audience will explore and participate in creating a more inclusive data-based narrative of what governance of the people\, by the people and for the people can look like in an AI mediated world where care is encoded within our digital civic system.

SUMMARY:Livestream / Virtual:Alison’s Mind: Collage and Architectural Thinking in Postcolonial Britain
DESCRIPTION:\"Collage as Method\, Manuscript and Moving Image: Cutting Edge\"\nOnline Conference hosted by Yale University\n\nMore info here: https://www.paul-mellon-centre.ac.uk/whats-on/forthcoming/collage-as-method-manuscript-moving-image\nRegister here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/collage-as-method-manuscript-and-moving-image-cutting-edge-tickets-163977365715\n\n\n\"Alison’s Mind: Collage and Architectural Thinking in Postcolonial Britain\"\n\nSummary: Some time in the 1950s\, Alison Smithson took a copy of Charles Knight’s Old England: a Pictorial Museum of Regal\, Ecclesiastical\, Municipal\, Baronial\, and Popular Antiquities of 1845\, and began filling it with images. Over the next four decades\, she created a collage work of astonishing depth and thickness\, with images culled from a heterogeneous array of material. The source and substrate of this years-long collage\, a book of 478 pages in two volumes\, was hardly distant from the concerns Smithson pursued elsewhere. A wide variety of lithographed images of artefacts\, buildings and mise-en-scène fill its pages\, drawn from the English past or from its encounter with other lands. The end result is a massive object\, its binding strained by the material interleaved throughout its pages. This paper presents the fragile scrapbook for the first time\, considering the unfolding dialogue between the book’s images and Smithson’s continuously layered additions throughout its pages and over an extended time frame. A private sourcebook\, the book records collage as an artist’s working method\, showing its utility for the generation of new ideas and suggesting corollaries between mental image-making and material output.\n\nWhile the precise sequence and order in which Smithson filled the pages of the book are impossible to reconstruct (she did not work from front to back)\, nonetheless the early pages suggest an ongoing dialogue between book and architect\, where images of medieval moats\, monuments and abodes recall projects that she and Peter Smithson projected or executed in their architectural work. Set against her life\, the scrapbook illuminates the fate of a highly intelligent\, ambitious woman nonetheless thwarted by oppressive gender prejudice and cut-throat professional competition in post-war British architecture. Similar collage works by others in the IG group\, most notably Nigel Henderson’s scrapbooks in the Tate collections\, evince similarity in kind and radical difference of degree in the end results. As a private sourcebook\, the scrapbook offers a window into Smithson’s working methods\, allowing viewers access to one of the least-filtered outputs of her creative intelligence. Taken together with Smithson’s thesis\, her forays into creative writing\, her graphic work and her international correspondence with fellow travellers\, such as Charles and Ray Eames\, the scrapbook represents an under-explored record of architectural thought in post-war Britain. The paper is a first step in parsing the rapidly decaying scrapbook to help understand the workings of one of the most important minds of post-war architecture culture\, situated within a changing postcolonial landscape in which the very concept of Englishness – of nationhood itself – is put on display. At a moment when this concept has resurged in the United Kingdom as elsewhere\, we might consider the scrapbook as Alison’s record of rapidly changing national identity\, with images of international consumer culture covering and nearly obliterating the English source material over which she mounted them.

SUMMARY:Class / Instruction:Chair's Distinguished Lecture: Computer Graphics-inspired Physics-based Simulation for Deployable Structures and Soft Robots
DESCRIPTION:M. Khalid Jawed\nAssistant Professor\nDepartment of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering\nUniversity of California\, Los Angeles\n\nAbstract: \nMetamaterials (e.g. origami) and complex materials (e.g. biological\, composite) have become integral parts of engineering with a broad range of applications: deployable structures\, soft robots\, stretchable electronics\, wearable devices\, and additive manufacturing. The large number of parameters governing their mechanics imply that an empirical trial-and-error approach is often impractical in designing functional smart structures. Fast and efficient computer simulations that create a ``digital twin\" -- a virtual analog that accurately portrays the physics and mechanics of a structure -- are required to come up with structural designs that feature the best performance. We adopt a combination of physics-based and data-driven approach to modeling and optimization of smart structures. The physics-based methods are motivated by fast algorithms developed by the computer graphics community for animation of hair and clothes in movies. The data-driven methods draw inspiration from the tools in the nascent field of machine learning and artificial intelligence. This talk will illustrate two representative structures designed in this paradigm. (1) A bacteria-inspired soft robot that leverages structural buckling to control its swimming direction. (2) Thin deployable shells and gridshells that pops-up from a planar shape to a preprogrammed 3D shape.\n\nThis work was supported by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute of Food and Agriculture of the US Department of Agriculture.\n\nAbout the speaker...\nDr. M. Khalid Jawed is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering of the University of California\, Los Angeles and the Principal Investigator of the Structures-Computer Interaction Laboratory. He received his Ph.D. and Master's degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He holds dual Bachelor's degrees in Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Physics from the University of Michigan\, Ann Arbor. He also served as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Carnegie Mellon University. He received the NSF CAREER Award in 2021\, the outstanding teaching award from UCLA in 2019\, the outstanding teaching assistant award from MIT in 2015\, and the GSNP best speaker award at the American Physical Society March Meeting in 2014.\n\nDr. Jawed's research interests lie at the intersection of structural mechanics and robotics\, emphasizing a data-driven and artificially intelligent approach to the modeling and design of programmable smart structures. Current research projects include robotic manipulation of flexible structures\, numerical simulation of highly deformable structures\, soft robotics\, and robotics for precision agriculture.

SUMMARY:Lecture / Discussion:CLASP Seminar Series: Prof. Lee Murray of the University of Rochester
DESCRIPTION:Prof. Lee Murray of the University of Rochester department of Earth & Environmental Sciences will give a lecture as part of the CLASP Seminar Series. Please join us!\n\nProf. Murray's presentation is titled \"Factors controlling variability in the oxidative capacity of the atmosphere\" and will take place on Thursday\, October 7 at 3:30 p.m. EDT.\n\nThis seminar will be in person at the Climate and Space Research Building Auditorium\, Room 2246.\n\nThe seminar may also be viewed via Zoom.\nPlease contact lhopkins@umich to request zoom access.\n\nABSTRACT: \nHydroxyl radical (OH) is a keystone species in the atmosphere\, determining the removal rate of many trace gases of important to climate\, composition and human and ecosystem health. Understanding how and why OH changes in space and time is therefore critical for predicting future changes in the self-cleaning capability of the atmosphere. Here\, I present a series of projects aimed at characterizing global OH variability. First\, we will explore why global atmospheric chemistry models differ so strongly in their OH abundances and forecasts even when driven by identical anthropogenic precursor emissions. Second\, we will explore the possibility of a space-based proxy for variability in local OH columns. Lastly\, we will use 4-D variational inverse modeling of methyl chloroform and 14CO observations in order to explore how and why global OH has changed over the past two decades.

SUMMARY:Lecture / Discussion:BME 500 Seminar: Imaging neural\, hemodynamic\, and cerebrospinal fluid dynamics in the sleeping brain
DESCRIPTION:Sleep is essential for cognition and maintenance of healthy brain function. Sleep changes diverse aspects of brain physiology\, and exhibits unique behavioral states\, electrophysiological oscillations\, vascular dynamics\, and waste clearance properties. Our research integrates multiple neuroimaging technologies to understand the neural circuits controlling sleep and the consequences of sleep for brain physiology. To investigate how these multiple aspects might be coupled during sleep\, we used simultaneous fast fMRI and EEG to measure fluid and neural dynamics in the human brain. We found a coherent pattern of coupled electrophysiological\, hemodynamic\, and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) dynamics that appears during non-rapid eye movement sleep. Our results demonstrate that the sleeping brain exhibits waves of CSF flow on a macroscopic scale\, and suggests a neural mechanism that can regulate CSF flow. Next\, using fast fMRI at ultra-high field (7 Tesla)\, we tracked subsecond dynamics throughout thalamocortical networks across transitions between sleep and wakefulness. We identified a temporal sequence of activity across individual thalamic nuclei that appears at the moment of awakening from sleep and predicts subsequent behaviour. Together\, these studies develop multimodal imaging approaches for tracking human brain physiology at fast timescales\, and identify neural and fluid dynamics unique to the sleeping brain.\n\nZoom Link: https://umich.zoom.us/j/97723483179

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:Binary Calculations are Inadequate to Assess Us: A Workshop by Stephanie Dinkins
DESCRIPTION:Renowned transmedia artist and Stony Brook University Professor Stephanie Dinkins leads a conversation about the exclusionary nature of artificial intelligence (AI) and the algorithms that undergird our technologies as well as the steps we can take to create more equitable datasets. This workshop will rely partially on the contributions of participants to create a more inclusionary and interactive algorithm\, proposing a data commons approach where anyone can contribute to a training dataset that in turn can be used to power AI. \nThe data collected during the workshop will contribute to Our Data\, an app which is currently under development and aims to co-create more nuanced algorithmic possibilities by creating two repositories—one for text and one for image—which will be available for people to use as an alternative to existing data sets. Limited spaces available. \nRegistration Required\nIf you are interested in participating in this virtual workshop\, please contact Stamps Gallery Director Srimoyee Mitra at srimoyee@umich.edu.\nParticipants are requested to bring the following:\nBring selfBring thoughts around what your data means to democracy and/or governanceBring images to donate to the appPre-Workshop Readings:\nBlack data matters: How missing data undermines equitable societiesMachine Bias: There’s software used across the country to predict future criminals. SUMMARY:Lecture / Discussion:Reading and Q&A with Kate Milliken
DESCRIPTION:Login here (no pre-registration needed): https://tinyurl.com/ZellWriters\n\nZell Visiting Writers Series readings and Q&As are free and open to the public\, and will be offered both virtually (via Zoom) and in person (in UMMA's Stern Auditorium). Seats at the in-person events are capacity-limited and offered on a first come\, first served basis\; please arrive early to secure a spot. Please contact kotziers@umich.edu with any questions or accommodation needs.\n\n\nKate Milliken’s collection of stories\, *If I'd Known You Were Coming*\, won the Iowa Award for Short Fiction in 2013. Her debut novel\, *Kept Animals*\, published by Scribner Books\, centers on a real-life wildfire in Topanga Canyon\, California\, in 1993\, which Kate experienced firsthand. Heralded as “an event-packed novel of class\, desire\, coming-of-age and familial disintegration\,” by Janet Fitch in *the New York Times Book Review* and named one of the best LGBTQ books of 2020 by O\, the Oprah Magazine\, *Kept Animals* was longlisted for the Center for Fiction’s First Novel Prize.\n\nKate was born into a theatre family\, her mother a playwright\, her father an aspiring actor and director. After her parent’s divorce\, Kate bounced between the glamour of 1980s Hollywood and a subsistent\, working class home in Chicago. No matter where she was\, the conversation was always about storytelling: from mythology\, to character motivations in John Cassavetes’s films. As a junior in high school\, Kate wrote an essay about her recovery from an eating disorder\, her family’s struggle with substance abuse\, and the inherent void created by fame. That essay won her acceptance to an experimental five-year undergraduate program\, enabling her to leave high school and a troubled home life early\, and cemented her belief in the power of storytelling. \n\nA graduate of the Bennington College Writing Seminars\, Kate’s writing has been published in numerous literary magazines\, anthologized\, and supported by fellowships from Yaddo\, Tin House\, and the Vermont Studio Center. Informed by her early awareness of economic inequities\, addiction\, and her experience of growing up queer in an era of overt homophobia\, Kate’s work aims to explore character dualities and the power of our appetites: from true hunger to our most unwieldy desires.\n\nFor any questions about the event or to share accommodation needs\, please email kotziers@umich.edu-- we are eager to help ensure that this event is inclusive to you. The building\, event space\, and restrooms are wheelchair accessible. Diaper changing tables are available in nearby restrooms. Gender-inclusive restrooms are available on the second floor of the Museum\, accessible via the stairs\, or in nearby Hatcher Graduate Library (Floors 3\, 4\, 5\, and 6). The Hatcher Library also offers a reflection room (4th Floor South Stacks)\, and a lactation room (Room 13W\, an anteroom to the basement women's staff restroom\, or Room 108B\, an anteroom of the first floor women's restroom). ASL interpreters and CART services at in-person events are available upon request\; please email kotziers@umich.edu at least two weeks prior to the event\, whenever possible\, to allow time to arrange services.\n\nU-M employees with a U-M parking permit may use the Church Street Parking Structure (525 Church St.\, Ann Arbor) or the Thompson Parking Structure (500 Thompson St.\, Ann Arbor). There is limited metered street parking on State Street and South University Avenue. The Forest Avenue Public Parking Structure (650 South Forest Ave.\, Ann Arbor) is five blocks away\, and the parking rate is $1.20 per hour. All of these options include parking spots for individuals with disabilities.

DESCRIPTION:Department of Theatre & Drama \n\nWritten by Stef Smith\nAfter the classic play by Henrik Ibsen\nDirected by Malcolm Tulip\n\nNora Helmer has been a feminist icon since her first appearance in 1879 as the lead character in Henrik Ibsen’s then-controversial A Doll’s House. 140 years later\, Olivier Award-winning playwright Stef Smith has reshaped Nora’s singular struggle for financial and emotional independence into three characters\, setting three Noras on parallel paths in different time periods. As their stories unfold\, shifting cultural expectations exert their pressure on each Nora as what it means to be a feminist changes. \n\nNora: A Doll’s House received its premiere at Citizen’s Theatre in Glasgow in 2019 before moving to the Young Vic in early 2020.

SUMMARY:Performance:The Wild Party
DESCRIPTION:Department of Musical Theatre \n\nBook\, Music\, & Lyrics by Andrew Lippa (BM ‵87\, music education and voice)\nDirected by MiMi Scardulla\nMusic Direction by Jason DeBord\n\nThe setting is the roaring 1920s. Lovers Queenie and Burrs decide to throw the party-to-end-all-parties in their Manhattan apartment. After the arrival of a slew of colorful guests living life on the edge\, Queenie's wandering eye lands on a striking man named Mr. Black. As the decadence is reaching a climax\, so is Burrs' jealousy\, which erupts and sends him into a violent rage. Gun in hand and inhibitions abandoned\, Burrs turns on Queenie and Black. The gun gets fired\, but who's been shot?\n\nA steamy prohibition tale\, steamrolling and roaring its way across the stage\, The Wild Party was an Off-Broadway gem that garnered an array of industry accolades\, including Drama Desk\, Outer Critics Circle and Obie awards. Based on Joseph Moncure March's 1928 narrative poem of the same name\, this darkly brilliant show features one of the most exciting\, pulse-racing scores ever written\, courtesy of SMTD alumnus Andrew Lippa (The Addams Family\, Big Fish).

DESCRIPTION:Author of Are You My Mother? A Comic Drama\, Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic and the comic strip Dykes To Watch Out For\, graphic novelist Alison Bechdel is preoccupied with the overlap of the political and the personal spheres.\nHer 2012 memoir Are You My Mother? A Comic Drama delved into not just her relationship with her own mother\, but the theories of the 20th century British psychoanalyst Donald Winnicott.\nIn 2006 she published Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic. Time magazine named it the Best Book of 2006. It was adapted into a musical and it opened on Broadway at the Circle in the Square Theater on April 19\, 2015\, and won five Tony Awards\, including “Best Musical.”\nWhile Dykes to Watch Out For was an explicitly community-based and politically engaged project\, her deeply intimate memoirs about her father’s life before gay rights and her mother’s life before the women’s movement turn a microscopic lens on the internal mechanisms of oppression and liberation.\nHer most recent book\, The Secret to Superhuman Strength (May 2021)\, continues her investigation of the relationship between inside and outside\, in this case the outside where she skis\, bikes\, hikes\, and wanders in pursuit of fitness and\, incidentally\, self-transcendence.\nThe recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship\, Bechdel has drawn comics for Slate\, McSweeney’s\, The New York Times Book Review\, and Granta.\nThis event is a special limited archival release of content never before shared online. \nHow to Watch\nThis Penny Stamps Speaker Series event will premiere on October 7\, 2021 and can be viewed on this page\, at dptv.org\, or on the Penny Stamps Series Facebook page.
