A Fulbright Scholar, she studied architectural ceramics at Centro Internazionale di Ceramica in Rome and directed and taught in the University of Michigan\u2019s Program in Florence. Prof. Crowell conducts research and exhibits her work locally, nationally and internationally. She has presented projects and exhibitions in Canada (at Banff), Japan (at Shigaraki and Miyazaki), Italy (Rome, Venice and Florence), Taiwan, Denmark and China, as well as in France and the United States, and she has participated in a variety of international venues and residencies. In 2005 Crowell published I Compianti Sul Christo Morto: Lamentation Groupings in Northern Italy to illuminate the distinguished history of ceramic materials in Quattrocento devotional and didactic sculpture, and to bring an understanding of their use and potential to contemporary ceramics practitioners. In April of 2016 Prof. Crowell exhibited her work in the conservatories of the Matthaei Botanical Gardens at the University of Michigan, and in May of 2017, at the Alden Dow Gardens in Midland, MI. In 2018 she conducted residencies and research at the Jean Noble Parsons Center for the Study of Art and Science in northern Michigan, and at A.I.R. Vallauris in Vallauris, France, where she exhibited her work in La chapelle de la place Lisnard that October.\r\n \r\nFor ten years, Crowell\u2019s research and artistic practice has focused upon pollen forms and the process of pollination. Deploying her appreciation of the role of technology in revealing the natural world, she applies the science and aesthetics of botany and apiculture toward the creation of ceramic sculpture, using cast and hand-built forms. In doing so, Prof. Crowell presents an expanded view of pollen within the problematics of industrialized honey production, global commerce in apicultural products, and genetically modified crops.. The identification of shared risk factors for and high rates of co-occurrence between gambling and high-risk substance use was foundational to the recategorization of gambling as an addiction. Investigating shared risk factors such as family history of high-risk substance use and co-occurrence between food addiction and high-risk substance use may be an important area of research for informing whether this eating phenotype is consistent with an addictive model. In this study (n=357), we investigate rates of co-occurrence among food addiction, high-risk substance use (i.e., alcohol, cannabis, cigarettes, nicotine vaping), parental history of high-risk alcohol use, and obesity. Modified Poisson regression was used to calculate risk ratios unadjusted and adjusted for socio demographic covariates. Results of the current study indicated that risk of food addiction was higher in participants with high-risk alcohol use, cannabis use, smoking, vaping, and parental history of high-risk alcohol use. Obesity, in contrast, was not significantly associated with high-risk substance use and parental history of high-risk alcohol use indicating that food addiction and obesity are distinct phenotypes. Findings from this study support the conceptualization of food addiction as an addictive disorder and suggest that inclusion of food addiction as an addictive disorder in diagnostic frameworks is an important area for future consideration. Registration for this event is now closed.\r\n\r\nAfter their meeting in Geneva on June 16, U.S. President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin issued a Joint Statement announcing the launch of \u201can integrated bilateral Strategic Stability Dialogue in the near future that will be deliberate and robust.\u201d The Strategic Stability Dialogue o\ufb00ers an opportunity for both sides to examine\u2014and possibly reshape\u2014the fundamentals of the bilateral relationship. High-level dialogue and even working-level contacts have atrophied in recent years. The two sides have not had meaningful discussions on fundamental issues such as arms control, cyber security, interference in domestic politics, \u201cred-lines\u201d in domestic and international behavior, and other \u201crules of the game.\u201d Nor have they engaged in discussions of such positive e\ufb00orts as cultural connections, student exchanges, or collaborative scienti\ufb01c research. The U.S.-Russia relationship needs to be updated for the 21st century. Each side needs to examine its national interests and determine how the bilateral relationship reinforces or undermines them\u2014and how both sides can work together to defend and advance their interests. The goal of any negotiation is to \ufb01nd outcomes that both sides can consider a win.\r\n\r\nPrior to the workshop, students will receive a small packet of readings on precedents for the Strategic Stability Dialogue and current issues in U.S.-Russian relations. We show that Transformers provide a theoretical integration of two prominent classes of theories in sentence processing: expectation-based (surprisal) and memory-based (specifically, cue-based retrieval) theories. We first explain how and why Transformers can serve this integrative theoretical role, providing visualizations and analyses that show the learned internal attention-patterns in Transformers correspond to memory retrieval patterns expected in cue-based interference models of parsing. We then show that Transformers provide accounts of several interesting sentence processing phenomena that have previously resisted theoretically coherent surprisal or memory-based accounts. He has completed three years of medical school training and is currently a PhD candidate in the department of Industrial and Operations Engineering. His research lies at the intersection of computer science, industrial engineering, and medicine, centered on creating machine learning and artificial intelligence tools for patients, physicians, and health systems. Erkin\u2019s dissertation work focuses on the development, implementation, and prospective usage of dynamic health outcome prediction models (e.g. early warning systems). He is co-advised by Dr. Brian Denton (Industrial and Operations Engineering) and Dr. Jenna Wiens (Computer Science and Engineering). Erkin has a professional background in health IT - having managed electronic health record development and healthcare data science teams. He holds a Master\u2019s of Industrial Engineering from the University of Wisconsin.
