SUMMARY:Exhibition:Animal/Vegetable/Mineral Art Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:In this RC Art Gallery exhibit\, Residential College and Penny W. Stamps School of Art and Design Professor of Art Susan Crowell presents\, among other works\, a series of wall plaques depicting endangered species. In Professor Crowell's effort to\, \"...question our interactions with the animal world and our impact upon it\,\" she has installed images of elephants and donkeys as protagonists and antagonists in political struggle\, and polar bears as victims of global warming. \n\n\"Animal/ Vegetable/Mineral presents an occasion to speak about my most compelling interests—plants and animals--within the mineral rubrics of clay\,\" she says.\n\nThis event is free and open to the public. Masks are required for all attendees. Vaccination is not required but highly encouraged. All attendees must complete a short questionnaire at https://responsiblue.umich.edu/sign-in before entering East Quadrangle.\n\nSusan Crowell is Professor of Art at the University of Michigan\, where she teaches ceramics and holds a joint appointment in the Residential College and the Penny W. Stamps School of Art and Design. A Fulbright Scholar\, she studied architectural ceramics at Centro Internazionale di Ceramica in Rome and directed and taught in the University of Michigan’s Program in Florence. Prof. Crowell conducts research and exhibits her work locally\, nationally and internationally. She has presented projects and exhibitions in Canada (at Banff)\, Japan (at Shigaraki and Miyazaki)\, Italy (Rome\, Venice and Florence)\, Taiwan\, Denmark and China\, as well as in France and the United States\, and she has participated in a variety of international venues and residencies. In 2005 Crowell published I Compianti Sul Christo Morto: Lamentation Groupings in Northern Italy to illuminate the distinguished history of ceramic materials in Quattrocento devotional and didactic sculpture\, and to bring an understanding of their use and potential to contemporary ceramics practitioners. In April of 2016 Prof. Crowell exhibited her work in the conservatories of the Matthaei Botanical Gardens at the University of Michigan\, and in May of 2017\, at the Alden Dow Gardens in Midland\, MI. In 2018 she conducted residencies and research at the Jean Noble Parsons Center for the Study of Art and Science in northern Michigan\, and at A.I.R. Vallauris in Vallauris\, France\, where she exhibited her work in La chapelle de la place Lisnard that October.\n \nFor ten years\, Crowell’s research and artistic practice has focused upon pollen forms and the process of pollination. Deploying her appreciation of the role of technology in revealing the natural world\, she applies the science and aesthetics of botany and apiculture toward the creation of ceramic sculpture\, using cast and hand-built forms. In doing so\, Prof. Crowell presents an expanded view of pollen within the problematics of industrialized honey production\, global commerce in apicultural products\, and genetically modified crops.. More recently\, she has created Thinning the Herd\, an installation of animal forms that addresses endangered species\, and Oppositional\, a commentary on contemporary political behavior in the United States.

SUMMARY:Exhibition:Stephanie Dinkins: On Love & Data
DESCRIPTION:Stamps Gallery is proud to present the first survey of renowned transmedia artist Stephanie Dinkins\, who creates platforms for dialogue about artificial intelligence as it intersects race\, gender\, aging\, and our future histories. \nThrough her work\, Dinkins has become a central figure nationally and internationally recognized for exposing bias and inequity within artificial intelligence systems. Weaving together art production and exhibition\, community-based workshops and public speaking all with the intention of encouraging action towards making artificial intelligence systems more inclusive\, accessible and transparent. \n In this exhibition\, Dinkins will debut new and interactive installations and workshops that build on her concept of Afro-now-ism. In this poetic manifesto-like text\, Dinkins asks her audience\, particularly from communities of color\, to not only confront the litany of violences that humans have wielded upon one another based on the institutional and social constructions of race\, caste\, class\, and gender to maintain status quo and the current systems of power - but rise above it by taking action to start building the world that they desire. \nShe writes: “Instead of waiting to reach the proverbial promised land\, also known as a time in the future that may or may not manifest in your lifetime\, Afro-now-ism is taking the leap and the risks to imagine and define oneself beyond systemic oppression... For black people in particular\, it means conceiving yourself in the space of free and expansive thought and acting from a critically integrated space\, allowing for more community-sustaining work.” \n Through her installations and workshops Stephanie Dinkins: On Love &amp\; Data develops a dialogue with the audience on the hierarchies embedded within machine learning and AI architecture and one&#039\;s individual agency in transforming the algorithms within it. The audience will explore and participate in creating a more inclusive data-based narrative of what governance of the people\, by the people and for the people can look like in an AI mediated world where care is encoded within our digital civic system.

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:International Economics: Selection and Sorting of Heterogeneous Firms through the Procompetitive Effect
DESCRIPTION:Abstract:\nWe study how an increase in market size causes selection and sorting of firms with different productivity by intensifying competitive pressures. To this end\, we introduce the procompetitive effect into the Melitz (2003) model of monopolistic competition with heterogeneous firms\, using the H.S.A. (Homotheticity with a Single Aggregator) class of demand systems\, which has many advantages relative to other non-CES demand systems used in the literature.\nFirst\, it is homothetic. Market size can be thus defined unambiguously because the composition of market demand does not matter. It also helps to isolate the effects of variable markups from those of\nnonhomotheticity. Furthermore\, the homotheticity makes it straightforward to use H.S.A. as a building block in multi-sector general equilibrium models.\nSecond\, it is nonparametric. This makes it flexible enough to allow not only for Marshall’s Second Law\, which implies incomplete pass-through. It also allows for what we call the (weak and strong) Third Law--the pass-through rates for less efficient firms are no lower (under the weak Third\nLaw) or strictly higher (under the strong Third Law). Furthermore\, since this class contains CES (as well as translog) as a special case\, H.S.A. helps us understand which predictions of the Melitz model are\ncritically dependent on CES and which ones are not.\nThird\, because the single aggregator serves as a sufficient statistic for competitive pressures\, it is simple to establish the existence and uniqueness of free-entry equilibrium with firm heterogeneity. H.S.A. also retains much of the tractability of CES\; most of comparative statics can be conducted by means of simple diagrams\, and the key qualitative results are free of any further parametric restrictions on the demand systems and productivity distribution. In a one-sector setting\, we show\, among others\, that an increase in competitive pressures\, -- whether it is caused by an increase in market size\, a lower entry cost\, or a first-order stochastically dominant improvement in productivity distribution--\, leads to a tougher selection of firms\, larger dispersion of profit across surviving firms under the Second Law (and of revenue across firms under the weak Third Law)\, and smaller dispersion of markup rates under the strong Third Law. An increase in market size also leads to higher (lower) profits for the more (less) efficient among the surviving firms under the Second Law. If the weak Third Law holds additionally\, an increase in market size leads to higher revenue for all surviving firms with large enough overheads\, but only for the more efficient with small enough overheads. We also show that employment could be hump-shaped in the firm productivity under the Second and weak Third Laws\, in which case employment could be inversely related to productivity among surviving firms with overheads large enough relative to market size.\nThen\, in a multi-sector/region setting\, we show that\, under the Second Law\, competitive pressures are stronger in larger markets\, which causes more efficient firms to sort themselves into larger markets. Due to this composition effect\, the average markup rates are not necessarily lower in larger markets. This result offers a caution against testing the procompetitive effect of market size by comparing the average markup rates in a cross-section of cities with different sizes.

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:Interdisciplinary QC/CM Seminar | Can We Simulate the Quantum Dynamics of Many Electrons Both\, Accurately and Fast?
DESCRIPTION:Join Zoom Meeting\nhttps://umich.zoom.us/j/94099710193\nMeeting ID: 940 9971 0193\nPasscode: 761515\n\nThe accurate description of the ultrafast quantum dynamics of mutually interacting particles is of high interest in many areas of physics and chemistry. This includes the response of electrons in atoms\, molecules\, solids\, and plasmas to short laser pulses. Similar phenomena occur in optical lattices where cold atoms are driven out of equilibium by ultrafast changes of the lattice parameters (quenches) [1]. A third example is the collective response of electrons in correlated 2D materials to the impact of charged particles [2]. Common to all these systems is that the interaction between the particles (i.e. correlations) significantly affects the time evolution. Common is also that for these systems a solution of the Schrödinger equation is impossible.\n\nI will report how we approach the quantum dynamics of interacting particles. We apply the method of nonequilibrium Green functions (NEGF) which has proven to be a powerful tool to capture electron-electron correlations [3]. However\, NEGF simulations are computationally expensive due to their cubic scaling with the simulation duration T. With the introduction of the generalized Kadanoff-Baym ansatz [4]\, quadratic scaling could be achieved for second order Born (SOA) selfenergies [5]\, which has substantially extended the scope of NEGF simulations. Recently [6]\, we could achieve linear scaling within SOA and even the GW and dynamically screened ladder approximations which is a break through for simulating the correlated electron dynamics. \n\n[1] N. SUMMARY:Class / Instruction:Chair's Distinguished Lecture: Save from Future Japan Social Crises! “Mothership” Project
DESCRIPTION:Eiji Itakura\nCaptain and Group Manager of Mothership Project Group\nFrontier Research Center \nToyota Motor Corporation\n\nAbstract:\nIn the near future\, many of the developed countries are likely to face Energy & Environment challenges\, and increase in the social debt. Japan is likely to be \"top runner\" in facing such challenges.\n\nWe are considering a novel solution to address these challenges using the \"Westerly Jet Stream\" above Japan. Westerly jet stream is high density\, endless energy source\, just 10 km above the ground\, resulting due to heat transfer from tropical to pole\, inducing air convection (physics) and earth shape\, size and rotation (Occasional luck).\n\n\"Mothership\" is a visionary futuristic novel project\, in which we are proposing to use a large tethered inflatable structure kite\, that utilizes the “Westerly Jet Stream\" to float at high altitude and offer many societal benefits\, i.e. harvest energy\, “sky crane” to move heavy payload in remote areas\, communication relay station to help the satellite above clouds. We believe the envisioned \"Mothership\" project shows large potential to induce many new industries and ventures by offering innovative solutions.\n\nOur global team consist of members from Toyota research centers in Japan\, United States and Europe who are working on actual engineering development. We will share our vision of “Mothership”\, current progress and remaining challenges.\n\nAbout the speaker...\nMy name is Eiji Itakura and I am Captain and group manager of the Mothership Project in Frontier Research Center in Toyota Motor Corporation. I graduated from Kyoto University in 1988 with a Bachelor’s Degree and in 1990 with a Master Degree of Aeronautical Engineering. At that time my research team\, Rarefied Gas Dynamics\, found thermal creep flow characteristics and published a paper on the analytical method of Poiseuille and Thermal Creep Flow of any Knudsen number in JVSJ.\n\nI took about ten years as a research engineer and reciprocating aircraft engine designer of Toyota from 1990 and experienced its Type Certification and Production Certification missions as a Toyota local representative to work with the FAA in the U.S. for three years. After manager promotion I experienced physics model based engine control and designing and prototyping full carbon monocoque cabins of Lexus Sports LFA.\n\nI started “Mothership Project” in 2018 as a captain\, project leader and group manager ‘from scratch’. I presented my project in AWEC2019. I wanted to be an astronaut\, still I like Space and of course Aircrafts. My hobby is customizing old cars. I have spent lots of my money\, almost the same as buying the most expensive new Lexus car.

SUMMARY:Class / Instruction:Shakespeare's “Tempest” Over Time
DESCRIPTION:The first play to appear in Shakespeare's Folio\, but thought to be one of his final plays written. \"The Tempest\" has become a touchstone in Shakespeare Studies for discussions about genre\, authorship\, feminism\, and postcolonial theory. Yet\, not long after its first performances\, Shakespeare's play vanished from the stage\, appearing only in adapted forms for the next 170 years. \n\nEach meeting\, we'll discuss an iteration of \"The Tempest\,\" beginning with Shakespeare's play up through Margaret Atwood's 2016 novel \"Hag-Seed\" in order to consider how approaches to the play have shifted over time.\n\nInstructor Becky Hixon\, is a PhD Candidate in English Language & Literature at the University of Michigan where she studies Shakespeare\, adaptation\, and gender and sexuality studies.\n\nThis study group will meet on Thursdays (excluding Thanksgiving) for eight weeks beginning on October 21. Preregistration is required via the OLLI website or phone. A link to access the study group will be e-mailed prior to the first session.

SUMMARY:Lecture / Discussion:CLASP Seminar Series: Prof. Deanna Hence of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign
DESCRIPTION:Prof. Deanna Hence of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign's Department of Atmospheric Sciences will give a lecture as part of the CLASP Seminar Series. Please join us!\n\nProf. Hence's presentation is titled \"Can you feel me? Multiscale interactions of tropical convection in the Indian Ocean\" and will take place on Thursday\, October 21 at 3:30 p.m. EDT.\n\nThis seminar will be in person at the Climate and Space Research Building Auditorium\, Room 2246.\n\nThe seminar may also be viewed via Zoom.\nPlease contact lhopkins@umich to request zoom access.\n\nABSTRACT: \nTwo high-impact weather phenomena form regularly in the Indian Ocean basin: tropical cyclones (TCs)\, and the convectively-active component of the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO). The MJO is one of the key seasonal modulators of precipitation for the equatorial Indian Ocean\, Maritime Continent\, and the west Pacific Ocean. Although less frequent than the other tropical cyclone basins of the world\, the impacts of TCs making landfall in this region are legendary\, given the highly populous countries that ring the basin.\n\nOur work began with using the MJO as a means to understand how differences in the larger-scale flow can influence the structure and evolution of tropical oceanic deep convection. As tropical cyclones often form within the vicinity of the active phase of the MJO\, this study led to an additional question: how can these two phenomena influence each other? Using a combination of case analysis of an active MJO during the DYNAMO field campaign alongside statistical analysis of best track and ERA5 reanalysis data of tropical cyclones coinciding with the convectively-active phase of the MJO in the Indian Ocean\, we examine how the presence of TCs in the basin may influence the westerly wind burst (WWB)\, a zone of anomalously westerly equatorial winds that follows the MJO’s convective envelope. Our results indicate a complex set of interactions at scales and distances larger than the TC circulations themselves.

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:BME 500 Seminar: “Elucidating and engineering microbial communities: systems and synthetic biology approaches”
DESCRIPTION:Microbes are everywhere in nature and they live in diverse communities that show remarkable metabolic capabilities and robustness. On the other hand\, disruption of microbiome homeostasis and associated changes in the community’s structure/function underlies numerous health or environmental issues. My lab has been developing methods and tools rooted in engineering to study microbial communities in order to discover the underlying cellular and molecular mechanisms. In particular\, we have pioneered a technological pipeline\, based on nanoliter-scale microfluidic droplets\, to co-cultivate sub-communities and characterize interactions between community members. A number of technological modules have been created and the pipeline is being applied to the investigation of a range of health or environment related microbiomes. A second distinct yet complementary research thrust in my lab\, inspired by naturally occurring synergistic microbial communities\, has been the design and construction of synthetic microbial consortia for microbial engineering and biochemical production. One application focus has been synthesis of fuels and chemicals from lignocellulosic biomass. For instance\, we designed and optimized a consortium consisting of a cellulolytic fungus capable of hydrolyzing hemicellulose and cellulose (main components of lignocellulosic biomass) into mono and oligosaccharides and a genetically engineered bacterium for converting mono and oligosaccharides into isobutanol\, an advanced biofuel. The general framework of engineering defined co-cultures of coordinated specialists also offers exciting new opportunities for the efficient and flexible production of many valuable chemicals from other non-conventional bio-feedstocks.

SUMMARY:Careers / Jobs:Student PIRGs Info Session - Learn about Careers to Make a Difference
DESCRIPTION:Students have been\, and continue to be at the forefront of movements to build a better future for our country. But students only make real progress when they’re organized\, have the skills to be effective\, and have a strategic plan to get things done. That’s where we come in: For almost 50 years\, the Student PIRGs have been working to amplify the power of student activism. We help students make real change\, right now\, that will help all Americans to live meaningful lives and have a greener and healthier future.\n\nFor example\, PIRG students are working to ensure young people are full participants in the political process by helping to turn out the vote in local\, state and national elections through our New Voters Project. In the fall of 2020\, we made nearly 400\,000 peer-to-peer personal reminder contacts in the weeks leading up to Election Day. Our hard work paid off and we saw record turnout among young people. We’re keeping up this momentum and aim to help more than 50 campuses get to full voter participation by building strong coalitions on campus that reach all students — from the College Democrats and the College Republicans\, to Greek Life organizations and sports teams\, to multicultural groups and student governments.\n \nWe all want to live meaningful lives in a world that's greener and healthier. That's the future our campus organizers work to build every day. If you want a career working with great people\, gaining real skills and start making a difference on important issues right away\, this could be a good fit for you. \n\nLearn more at jobs.studentpirgs.org

SUMMARY:Careers / Jobs:Healthcare Moneyball —Associate Level Position in Healthcare Consulting with IQVIA!
DESCRIPTION:Why Moneyball?\n\nNo worries\, we aren’t looking for candidates with backgrounds in sports\, reading Michael Lewis novels\, or indulging in Brad Pitt movies. In the early 2000s\, the Oakland Athletics baseball team implemented enhanced statistical insights to understand the real value of players\, as opposed to “old-school” approaches that are outdated\, subjective\, and often flawed. Using enhanced insights\, the A’s remained a competitive baseball team despite having limited funds to pay high-value players and managers – their unique approach to better gain insight about players had ushered in an era of new thinking to the game and enhanced insights are now a necessity to “play ball” in every industry.\n\nIn our world of healthcare\, ongoing changes in patient insurance coverage\, continued impacts from COVID-19\, increasing industry consolidation\, and the growth in expensive transformative therapeutics continue to challenge the life sciences landscape. These changes at a macro-level have ripple effects across the country. For example\, the “greying” of theUS is leading to approximately 15 M people enrolling in Medicare over thenext ten years\, but this impact is likely to increase more so in specific states and geographies. Furthermore\, the growth in high deductibles continue to drive higher costs across the landscape of various treatment options.\n\nAs a result\, we support our clients by developing “Moneyball” like solutions to provide better insights for our clients to adapt to demanding market. SUMMARY:Lecture / Discussion:Reading and Q&A with Douglas Kearney
DESCRIPTION:Login here (no pre-registration needed): https://tinyurl.com/ZellWriters\n\nZell Visiting Writers Series readings and Q&As are free and open to the public\, and will be offered both virtually (via Zoom) and in person (in UMMA's Stern Auditorium). Seats at the in-person events are capacity-limited and offered on a first come\, first served basis\; please arrive early to secure a spot. Please contact kotziers@umich.edu with any questions or accommodation needs.\n\n\nThe dynamic Douglas Kearney is a poet\, performer\, and librettist who has published six books that bridge thematic concerns such as politics\, African-American culture\, masks\, the Trickster figure\, and contemporary music. His most recent book\, *Sho* (Wave Books\, 2021)\, aims to hit crooked licks with straight-seeming sticks. \n\nNavigating the complex penetrability of language\, these poems are sonic in their espousal of Black vernacular strategies\, while examining histories and current events through the lyric\, brand new dances\, and other performances.\n\nKearney is also the author of *Buck Studies* (Fence Books\, 2016)\, which was awarded the CLMP Firecracker Award for Poetry\, the Theodore Roethke Memorial Poetry Award\, and the silver medal for the California Book Award in Poetry. BOMB says *Buck Studies* “remaps the 20th century in a project that is both lyrical and epic\, personal and historical.” Kearney describes the non-traditional layout of his poems as “performative typography.” On the relationship between his poetry and politics\, he notes: “For me\, the political is a part of how I see the world. My art making doesn’t begin without realizing who I am and what it means for me to be writing a poem and not doing something else.” Kearney’s collection of writing on poetics and performativity\, *Mess and Mess* (Noemi Press\, 2015)\, is a Small Press Distribution Handpicked Selection. In it\, Kearney writes\, “If my writing makes a mess of things\, it’s not to flee understanding\, but to map (mis-)understanding as a verb.” *Patter* (Red Hen Press\, 2014)\, Kearney’s third poetry collection\, examines miscarriage\, infertility\, and parenthood. The Black Automaton (Fence Books\, 2009) is a National Poetry Series selection\, which “flows from a consideration of urban speech\, negro spontaneity and book learning.” *Someone Took They Tongues* (Subito Press\, 2016) collects several of Kearney’s libretti\, including one written in a counterfeit Afro-diasporic language. He was the guest editor for *the 2015 Best American Experimental Writing*.\n\nKearney has received a Whiting Writers’ Award and the Cy Twombly Award for Poetry\, and was named a Notable New American Poet by the Poetry Society of America\, He has been awarded fellowships from Cave Canem and The Rauschenberg Foundation. His work has appeared in a number of journals\, including *Poetry*\, *Iowa Review*\, *Boston Review*\, and *Indiana Review*\, and anthologies\, including *Resisting Arrest: Poems to Stretch the Sky*\, *Best American Poetry*\, *Best American Experimental Writing*\, and *What I Say: Innovative Poetry by Black Poets in America*.\n\nRaised in Altadena\, CA\, he lives with his family a little west of Minneapolis\, MN and teaches creative writing at the University of Minnesota–Twin Cities.\n\nFor any questions about the event or to share accommodation needs\, please email kotziers@umich.edu-- we are eager to help ensure that this event is inclusive to you. SUMMARY:Lecture / Discussion:Compositional Linguistic Generalization in Artificial Neural Networks
DESCRIPTION:Compositionality---the principle that the meaning of a complex expression is built from the meanings of its constituent parts---is considered a central property of human language. The key benefit of compositionality is compositional generalization\, which enables the production and comprehension of novel expressions analyzed as new compositions of familiar parts. In this presentation\, I discuss my work on developing a test for compositional generalization for artificial neural networks based on human generalization patterns discussed in existing linguistic and developmental studies\, and applying this test to several instantiations of Transformer (Vaswani et al. 2017) and Long Short-Term Memory (Hochreiter & Schmidhuber 1997)) models to better characterize their learning biases.\n\nCSC Speaker Event: Najoung Kim\nDate: Thursday (10/21) 6-7pm (ET)\nLink: https://umich.zoom.us/j/98135198767

SUMMARY:Performance:CANCELLED - The Small Glories
DESCRIPTION:Roots powerhouse duo The Small Glories are Cara Luft & JD Edwards\, a musical tour-de-force partnership planted on the Canadian Prairies. Thrown together purely by accident for an anniversary show at Winnipeg’s venerable West End Cultural Centre\, The Small Glories could almost make you believe in fate. \n\nWith a stage banter striking a unique balance between slapstick and sermon\, these veteran singer-songwriters have a way of making time disappear\, rooms shrink\, and audiences feel as they are right there on the stage with the band — writing the songs\, living the songs\, performing the songs. It’s not uncommon for listeners to find themselves laughing\, dancing\, crying\, or caught up in a good ol’ fashioned sing-along. “We’re folk singers\, we try to write stuff that people can relate to\,” says Edwards\, whose looming stage presence and penetrating eyes find him the yin to Luft’s petite\, snort-laughing yang. The material of a Small Glories concert is welcoming in terms of subject\, folk-pop melody and instrumentation — songs of love\, loss\, and environment\, delivered with soaring\, interwoven vocals on various combinations of stomping clawhammer banjo\, guitar and harmonica. However\, a Small Glories performance is really about what happens in-between the songs. “The feedback we get from a lot of audiences is that it’s not just about the music for them\,” Luft says. “It’s the whole package.”\n\nOn record\, The Small Glories take the musical synergy honed from hundreds of shows together\, and expand it into a new soundscape amplified by pounding drums and other textural embellishments which only reinforce the magic of Luft and Edwards’ innate chemistry — a chemistry labeled the “Lennon-McCartney syndrome\,” by Americana UK\, writing\, “Some things just work together… to witness a performance by The Small Glories is a rare opportunity to experience that indefinable quality that creates perfection.” But don’t just take a European reviewer’s word for it — the band’s debut album\, 2016’s Wondrous Traveler was also praised in Pitchfork by legendary American rock critic Greil Marcus\, who wrote\, “…in moments (The Small Glories) find the darkening chord change the best bluegrass — from the Stanley Brothers to Be Good Tanyas — has always hidden in the sweet slide of the rhythm\, the tiny shift where the person telling the story suddenly understands it.”\n\nIt’s this yearning for understanding which finds the band often taking more time to introduce a song than it actually takes to play it. Luft\, an original member of harmony sweethearts The Wailin' Jennys and whose parents were folksingers influenced by the great activist Pete Seeger\, knows that sometimes a song is all you need to bring people together. But often\, it is more. “(Seeger) was the king of uniting people through singing\,” Luft says. “There’s so much animosity and divisiveness in our world these days… as artists\, part of our job is to somehow create unity.”\n\nThe Small Glories duplicate and reinforce each others’ many strengths and yet allow their distinct personalities to shine through\, resulting in a live show that is as heartwarming as it is hilarious\, as finger-picking proficient as it is relatable\, and as Canadian as\, well… it’s very Canadian. But that hasn’t stopped them from winning over audiences from Nashville to the Australian outback. Their highly anticipated sophomore album “Assiniboine & the Red” was released the summer of 2019 on Compass/Red House Records.
