View the exhibit in the north lobby of the Hatcher Library.\r\n\r\nAbout the exhibit:\r\n\r\nIn the section titled \u201cA New Canon,\" the exhibit includes an empty space where the novel Max Havelaar by Multatuli would be, the \u201ctop 10\u201d book touted to have \u201cended colonialism.\" With the empty space, we acknowledge the book\u2019s white saviorism that rang in the new era of colonial oppression and cultural genocide called the \u201c(Dutch) Ethical Policy.\" The books in our new canon crowd out Multatuli\u2019s empty space in the same way that the other materials on display, such as the sound of the carillon score of Gold Coast composer, Charles E. Graves, or the voice of Indonesian forerunner of colonial reparations, Jeffry Pondaag, drowns out the spaces left blank by Willem Janszoon Blaeu\u2019s maps, which reside in our U-M Library collections but are purposely not displayed.\r\n\r\nThe exhibit continues with collections of materials that show the Dutch program\u2019s comparative approach to Dutch Studies, one that connects histories and cultures and creates understanding through familiar frames of reference. Our collection of Anne Frank materials is supplemented with U-M Professor of History Rudolf Mr\u00e1zek\u2019s comparative work on the \u201cmodel camps\u201d of Theresienstadt (Nazi) and Boven Digoel (Dutch). We developed and operationalized a fully automatic de-identification algorithm and implemented EMERSE, a user-friendly tool for non-programmatic access and sophisticated textual searches on the de-identified clinical notes.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\r\n\r\nAs of December 2021 Our de-identification algorithm and our clinical notes are certified de-identified and are currently available for the UCSF researchers with IRD. The presentation covers the entire pipeline from data extraction to publication and data access focusing on the secured computational infrastructure. Furthermore, we discuss the rigorous evaluation techniques to ensure the quality of the deidentification process and the resulting data according to HIPAA and UCSF Security and Privacy protection requirements. In this seminar, I will describe our work on developing polymeric nanoparticles (NPs) to deliver therapeutic nucleic acids to a variety of tissues following systemic intravenous administration, with a focus on peptide nucleic acid (PNA)-based gene editing therapeutics in cystic fibrosis and b-thalassemia disease contexts. These monogenic disorders are attractive targets for gene editing and can be corrected using non-nuclease-based PNA gene editing agents. PNAs designed to bind specific sites in genomic DNA can initiate an endogenous DNA repair response and site-specific modification of the genome when \u201cdonor DNA\u201d templates containing a desired sequence modification are co-delivered using polymeric vehicles. In recent work, we have found that gene editing efficiency can be significantly enhanced using a new class of polymeric vehicles consisting of poly(amine-co-ester) (PACE) polymers designed for safe and effective nucleic acid delivery. To close the talk, I will describe a robust high-throughput quantitative microscopy-based platform to standardize and accelerate the analysis of circulation half-life of nanomedicines to facilitate pre-clinical screening in vivo. This tool, alongside the development of novel polymeric carriers, can be used to study the structure-function relationships that guide the physiological fate of NPs in order to rationally design more effective delivery vehicles for future applications.\r\nBio:\r\nDr. Alexandra S. Piotrowski-Daspit, Ph.D. is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Biomedical Engineering Department at Yale University. Alexandra received her bachelor's degree in Chemical-Biological Engineering and Biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2011 and her Ph.D. in Chemical & Biological Engineering from Princeton University in 2016, where she worked in the laboratory of Professor Celeste Nelson on developing three-dimensional cell culture models to study cell behavior during development and disease processes. At Yale, she works on a highly interdisciplinary team under the mentorship of Professors W.
