SUMMARY:Exhibition:Map ≠ Territory: Distortion and Power in Cartography
DESCRIPTION:More than strict representations of the world we inhabit\, maps are social constructions that embody the interests of their creators. Map ≠ Territory deconstructs maps that have been used to subjugate\, appropriate\, and oppress\, as well as the maps that counter that power through emancipation and advocacy. The exhibit critically engages with materials that span from the colonial era to modern-day Detroit.\n\nThe exhibit is available in the Clark Library (second floor Hatcher) during Hatcher Library hours. SUMMARY:Exhibition:Greek Manuscripts at the University of Michigan Library: A Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Splendors of the religious and artistic endeavors of Byzantine manuscript makers are on display in this exhibit of highlights from the Greek manuscript collection at the University of Michigan Library Special Collections Research Center. The collection — 110 codices (bound manuscripts) and fragments written in Greek from the fourth to the nineteenth centuries C.E. — is the largest such collection in the Western Hemisphere and provides unique insights into this era of achievement in textual transmission\, calligraphy\, illumination\, and bookbinding. The exhibit will be open during Audubon Room hours.\n\nA digital version of the exhibit will be available in the Audubon Room and online\, and allows visitors to explore other pages of the manuscripts on display and other manuscripts from the collection.\n\nThis exhibit celebrates two recent publications based on the collection: \n\n* Catalogue of Greek Manuscripts at the University of Michigan\, Ann Arbor. Vol. 1.\, by Nadezhda Kavrus-Hoffmann (Ann Arbor: University of Michigan Press\, 2021)\n\n* Tradition and Individuality: Bindings from the University of Michigan Greek Manuscript Collection\, by Julia Miller (Ann Arbor: The Legacy Press\, 2021)

SUMMARY:Exhibition:Pan-African Pulp: A Commission by Meleko Mokgosi
DESCRIPTION:In Pan-African Pulp\, Botswana-born artist Meleko Mokgosi explores the history of Pan-Africanism\, the global movement to unite ethnic groups of sub-Saharan African descent. His Vertical Gallery installation\, which inaugurates a new biennial commission program at UMMA\, features large-scale panels inspired by African photo novels of the 1960s and ’70s\, a mural examining the complexity of blackness\, posters from Pan-African movements from around the world\, including those founded in Detroit and Africa in the 1960s\, and stories from Setswana literature. Pan-African Pulp vividly connects to Detroit’s deep history of activism\, where organizations such as Black Nation of Islam\, The Republic of New Afrika\, Shrine of the Black Madonna (Black Christian Nationalism)\, Pan-African Congress\, and United Negro Improvement Association were founded. The renewed urgency for diversity and civil rights in Detroit\, and the country as a whole\, heightens the relevance of Mokgosi’s project and reveals the deep connections between these historical movements and those developing today.\n\nLead support is provided by Lizzie and Jonathan Tisch. Additional generous support is provided by the University of Michigan African Studies Center and the Department of Afroamerican and African Studies.\n

Homework (mastery verification) will be required after each session. \n\nThe cost to an individual to take the exam is normally $595\, however\, Tauber is offering the exam at a substantial discount to non-Tauber students: \n$550 for U-M alumni or public\n$425 for U-M students\, U-M employees\, or Tauber alumni\n$325 for U-M Ross School of Business or U-M College of Engineering staff\n$225 for Tauber Institute students\n$145 for previous students to retake the exam\n\nCertification is valid for 5 years. For questions about this event\, please contact tauberinstitute@umich.edu or visit tauber.umich.edu.\n\nWhat is IPMA Level D® (Certified Project Management Associate)? The IPMA Level D is an internationally recognized entry-level qualification in the area of project management. This designation\, which demonstrates the individual's ability to understand the basics of project management\, is similar to the exam-oriented\, knowledge-based certifications of other major Project Management associations. For many\, Level D® is the first step towards a professional project or program manager role. It is the first step in a sequence (C\, B and A) to be earned by demonstration of success in larger PM responsibility sets.\n\nFor more information\,\nVisit tauber.umich.edu or call 734-647-1333\nConnect via email to Diana Crossley dianak@umich.edu
