DESCRIPTION:The Homework Help program offers children assistance with their homework assignments. Children are encouraged to bring homework and are paired with a volunteer to assist them. This program is a critical service in helping children thrive. Volunteers give children the tools they need to be successful in school.Virtual and in-person volunteer opportunities are available. If you would like to volunteer\, please start the enrollment process by creating an account on the Children Center's Volunteer Site found HERE. After your account is created\, the Children's Center will reach out to you within 2 business days to answer any questions and discuss the next steps.In accordance with the CMS Vaccine Mandate\, those volunteering in-person at the Children’s Center are required to be fully vaccinated and must provide proof of full vaccination upon request.

DESCRIPTION:The Places & Spaces: Mapping Science exhibit introduces science mapping techniques and data visualization to the general public and to experts across diverse disciplines\, and we hope inspires cross-disciplinary discussion on how to best track and communicate scholarly activity and scientific progress on a global scale. The exhibit includes a macroscope which showcases interactive visualizations that demonstrate the impact of different data cleaning\, analysis\, and visualization algorithms.\n\nThe Places & Spaces exhibit is curated by the Cyberinfrastructure for Network Science Center at Indiana University. The complementary exhibit\, A Brief History of Information Graphics\, was created by Clark Library staff to provide an historical context to the Places and Spaces exhibit.

DESCRIPTION:HYBRID SEMINAR: \nIn-person: BSRB\, Kahn Auditorium\nand via zoom: https://umich.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_x_We3Mf0SjqrMEXTAiYPiA#/registration\n\nDr. Moore will be awarded an honorary degree at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor campus’ 2022 Winter Commencement and give this scientific talk to our RNA community.\n\n\nBiography: In her role as Chief Scientific Officer\, Platform Research\, Dr. Melissa Moore is responsible for leading mRNA biology\, delivery and computation science research at Moderna. She joined Moderna in 2016 from the University of Massachusetts Medical School\, where she served as Professor of Biochemistry & Molecular Pharmacology\, Eleanor Eustis Farrington Chair in Cancer Research and a long-time Investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI).  Dr. Moore was also a founding Co-Director of the RNA Therapeutics Institute (RTI) at UMassMed\, and was instrumental in creating the Massachusetts Therapeutic and Entrepreneurship Realization initiative (MassTERi)\, a faculty-led program intended to facilitate the translation of UMMS discoveries into drugs\, products\, technologies and companies.  Dr. Moore is an elected member of the National Academy of Sciences (2017) and a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (2019).\n\nDr. Moore holds a B.S. in Chemistry and Biology from the College of William and Mary\, and a Ph.D. in Biological Chemistry from MIT\, where she specialized in enzymology under Prof. Christopher T. Walsh.  She began working on RNA metabolism during her postdoctoral training with Phillip A. Sharp at MIT.  During her 23 years as a faculty member\, first at Brandeis and then at UMassMed\, her research encompassed a broad array of topics related to the roles of RNA and RNA-protein (RNP) complexes in gene expression\, and touched on many human diseases including cancer\, neurodegeneration\, and preeclampsia.

DESCRIPTION:The Advancing Career Targets (ACT) Program aims to help Ph.D. students in their 3rd year and above engage in active career exploration and empower them to take concrete steps towards their career goals.\nThe program is open to Ph.D. students who began their Ph.D. training between 2018-2020 and who are in a PIBS-affiliated program. What differentiates the ACT program from others is that it creates a community of peer support among students within biomedical disciplines currently in similar stages of career exploration and preparation.\nThe program meets once a week for 4 weeks starting February 1\, 2022. Attendance in all four sessions is required for participants to have a complete experience of peer support and to obtain a completion certificate. Applications are due by 9:00 am on Monday\, December 23.\n\n
