What he witnessed and captured in a series of gripping photographs is *tikkun olam*, a central concept in Judaism that denotes activities that repair and improve the world we live in. The exhibit shifts the lens away from the horror the refugees have endured to focus instead on human goodness and how it can overcome lingering evil.\r\n\r\nIn his 45-year career, freelance photographer Chuck Fishman has focused on social and political issues with a strong humanistic concern. His work on Jewish life in Poland, begun in 1975, continues to the present day. Fishman\u2019s work has been extensively published, exhibited, and collected worldwide, and has earned him prestigious World Press Photo Foundation medals four times. His photographs have appeared on the covers of *Time*, *Life*, *Fortune*, *Newsweek*, *The London Sunday Times*, *The Economist*, and numerous others. She is currently teaching at ArtCenter College of Art and Design in Pasadena, CA as a fellow for the Association of Independent Colleges of Art and Design. Weaver is represented by David Klein Gallery and has shown work at Art Miami, the Havana Biennale, Sofa Expo, and more. Royset is a Professor of Operations Research at the Naval Postgraduate School. He was awarded a National Research Council postdoctoral fellowship in 2003, a Young Investigator Award from the Air Force Office of Scientific Research in 2007, and the Barchi Prize as well as the MOR Journal Award from the Military Operations Research Society in 2009. He received the Carl E. and Jessie W. Menneken Faculty Award for Excellence in Scientific Research in 2010 and the Goodeve Medal from the Operational Research Society in 2019. Dr. Royset was a plenary speaker at the International Conference on Stochastic Programming (2016), the SIAM Conference on Uncertainty Quantification (2018), and the INFORMS Conference on Security (2022). He has a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of California at Berkeley (2002). During this special event, Zafonte will give a talk entitled: \u201cDoes Repeated Brain Injury Lead to a Maladaptive Phenotype? Can we Untangle the Gordian Knot?\u201d\r\n\r\nDr. Zafonte serves as Chief of the Department of PM&R at Massachusetts General Hospital, Chair of the Department of PM&R at Brigham and Women\u2019s Hospital, and Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs, Research, and Education at Spaulding Rehabilitation Network. Dr. Zafonte\u2019s textbook, Brain Injury Medicine, is considered one of the standards in the field of brain injury care.\r\n\r\nHis work is presently funded by the NIH, DOD, and NIDRR, and he directs several large clinical treatment trials. His research primarily focuses on understanding mechanisms of recovery after Brain and Spinal Cord Injury. At the RedSox MGH HomeBase program, he directs the Brain Injury and the Warrior Health and Fitness programs, and at the Football Players Health Study at Harvard University, he is the Principal Investigator. Dr. Zafonte also sees patients in numerous clinics and hospitals in the Boston community, including former NFL athletes, as part of a special MGH initiative known as the Brain and Body Program.\r\n\r\nDr. Zafonte has published extensively on traumatic brain injuries, spasticity, and other neurological disorders and presented on these topics at conferences nationally and internationally. He is the author of more than 300 peer review journal articles, abstracts, and book chapters. He is on the Journal of Neurotrauma editorial board and, in 2020, was named the Editor in Chief for the Journal of the American Osteopathic Association.
