Plants and fungi play a vital role in medicine due to the diversity of chemical defense mechanisms they evolved to safeguard them against pathogens, herbivores, and competitors. From its inception, the U-M Herbarium has cataloged and described plants—both poisonous and beneficial to human health—and still serves that role today. See specimens of these plant and fungal “friends” and “foes” from the U-M Herbarium collection and learn about how the collection is used for drug discovery today.",https://events.umich.edu/event/110032,"Museum of Natural History",,"Museum of Natural History",,"Biology

Molecules of Life (Student Showcase)
Discover the connection between form and function as you explore the molecular building blocks of life. In the realm of biological macromolecules such as proteins and nucleic acids, form determines function, so visualizing the three-dimensional structures of molecules is key in researching the ‘tiny’ macromolecules that perform vital functions in our cells. In Biophysics 421, under the guidance of Markos Koutmos, Assistant Professor of Biophysics & Chemistry, and Liz Tidwell, PhD candidate in Biophysics, students created models with digital modeling software and brought them to life via 3D printing. This exhibit showcases the 3D printed molecules, scaled up to better reveal the structures that inform, make, break, modify, and move within the body.",https://events.umich.edu/event/110034,"Museum of Natural History",,"Museum of Natural History",,"Biosciences

Located in the former Homestake gold mine in Lead, South Dakota, the Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF) houses experiments that give us a better understanding of the universe. The location—deep underground—provides a near-perfect environment for experiments that need to escape the constant bombardment of cosmic radiation, which can interfere with the detection of rare physics events. Built in collaboration with the University of Michigan, the LUX-Zeplin is the world’s most sensitive dark matter experiment. SURF also hosts experiments in biology, geology and engineering.

Gina Gibson is an internationally exhibiting artist and professor of Graphic Design at Black Hills State University. In 2019, Gibson became the first artist in residence at the Sanford Underground Research Facility. Gibson's work celebrates the search deep below the surface for beauty in the old and new, the light and dark, and the known and unknown.

How to Become a Fossil
Explore how fossils form and what parts of animals can become fossilized! How old are the earliest fossils? How old does something have to be before it is considered a fossil? You’ll touch some real fossils, learn the different types of fossil evidence, and discover what is necessary to become a fossil. Finally, we’ll discuss what kinds of things fossils can tell us, and how fossil casts are made in the museum!",https://events.umich.edu/event/95035,"Museum of Natural History",,"Museum of Natural History",,"Children

The goal is not to define any artist by the experience of having been incarcerated, but rather to amplify a story that only that artist can tell—a story that is important to the artist to tell, and an opportunity to use the medium of theatre to share it with the community.

Two heavyweight guitar slingers and singers find a common ground with their deep history in honky-tonk and rock ’n’ roll and their command of the electric guitar.

Bill Kirchen graduated from Ann Arbor High School in 1965, and with his jug band the Who Knows Pickers shared a stage that year with Jim “Iggy Pop” Osterberg, He co-founded Commander Cody and his Lost Planet Airmen here in Ann Arbor, then moved the band to SF, CA in1969. His diesel-fueled licks drove Hot Rod Lincoln into the Top 10 nationwide. A Grammy nominee for Best Country Instrumental in 2001, he has recorded and played live with Elvis Costello, Emmylou Harris, Dan Hicks, Maria Muldaur, Hoyt Axton, Hazel Dickens, Gene Vincent and Link Wray. He has toured the world and Nick Lowe. His latest disc, The Proper Years is out on The Last Music co label.

Redd was born in B.C. Canada. After years of traveling his homeland, at 26 he moved to the US to try his hand in the scene down here.

Starting in San Jose/Santa Cruz, then L.A., back and forth to Nevada, Texas for a summer, and Nashville for 11 years, all before settling in Austin TX for the last 16 years. He now calls Gale, Virginia, his home.
Redd won a Grammy for his own work in 2009, after making an international name for himself as lead guitarist with the great country legend Merle Haggard. His interpretation of the classic Roy Nichols guitar style led to a quote in Guitar Player magazine by Merle: ""When I close my eyes I sometimes hear Roy Nichols playing over there, and that has never happened before.""

Redd has released four CDs and several instruction DVDs on his own and recorded and/or played live with a host of world-class artists, among them Ray Price, Leona Williams, Eric Johnson, Johnny Paycheck, Rhonda Vincent, Statler Bros, Albert Lee, Vince Gill, John Jorgensen, Bobby Bare, George Jones, Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, Connie Smith, Dwight Yokum, Tim McGraw, Allison Krause, Charlie Pride, Asleep at The Wheel, Johnny Gimble, Leon Raush, Johnny Bush, Brad Paisley, Billy Gibbons, Jr Brown, Jimmy Vaughn, Bill Kirchen, Tommy Allsup and just a couple more …
