Known as Polskie szk\u0142o artystyczne (Polish art glass), the works were produced in glass factories in southern Poland and are a feature of many homes throughout Central Europe. The glass masters were trained in schools of art and design and many achieved international fame during their lifetimes. \r\n\r\nThe collectors, Endi Poskovic and his wife Julie Anne Visco, began acquiring the glass in 2015-16 while Endi was a Fulbright Scholar and Visiting Professor at the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Krak\u00f3w. Scouring flea markets, antique shops, and websites, they continue to acquire pieces and build the collection to this day. We are grateful to them for making this remarkable exhibit possible at CCPS and WCEE.\r\n\r\nOrganized by the Copernicus Center for Polish Studies, this exhibition is co-sponsored by the Penny W. In this talk, I will show specific studies on correlated and topological magnets, highlighting how the different types of strains provide unique insights into the underlying physics. \r\n\r\nFirst, I will discuss how the symmetry-breaking nature of uniaxial pressure can critically modify heavy-fermion materials and frustrated magnets. I will show that the novel method of elastocaloric effect measurements is highly suited to map out their phase diagrams as a function of strain. Importantly, I will show how these experiments can reveal the location of entropy extrema, such as those associated with maximum frustration, in the temperature-strain phase diagram.\r\n\r\nSecond, I will discuss the tuning of the magnetic state in a proposed Weyl semimetal EuCd 2 As 2 . By applying hydrostatic pressures, i.e. volumetric, symmetry-conserving strains, we induce a phase transition to a ferromagnetic phase, which is predicted to host the Weyl fermions. This is a rare chance to hear Hill Auditorium\u2019s Frieze Memorial Organ together with orchestra; it will be played by locally renowned organist Naki Kripfgans. \r\n\r\nThe LSO\u2019s musicians include faculty, staff, students, alumni and their family members from across U-M\u2019s medical, health sciences, life sciences and engineering community.
