However, his untimely passing in 2018 prevented the exhibition. In honor of the artist, his wife Meighen Jackson has assembled this body of work for this exhibition.\r\n\r\nA 1960\u2019s graduate of Monteith College at Wayne State, Bill saw himself not as a storyteller nor a documentarian, but as a photographer seeking images with the power and creativity of late 20th century painting and music making.\r\n\r\nBill Jackson\u2019s work is represented nationally by Walter Wickiser Gallery in Manhattan and regionally by M Contemporary in Ferndale, MI. Nicole creates a whimsical line of art prints and paper goods under the name Sloe Gin Fizz.\r\n\r\nFrom quirky animal and vegetable characters to nostalgia-filled interiors and calming views of nature, Nicole\u2019s hand-drawn scenes are highly accessible, infused with a playful sense of humor and a strong narrative quality. \r\n\r\nNicole holds a BFA in Illustration from the School of Visual Arts, as well as a BA in History from Trinity College in Hartford, CT. In particular, I will focus on the role that metaphysical and interpretative issues have played. (This talk will be pitched to a general audience of philosophers and physicists and will not require technical background in quantum field theory.)\r\n\r\n5-5:50 pm Bixin Guo (University of Pittsburgh): Next Best Thing\u2014What Can Quantum Mechanics Tell Us About the Fundamental Ontology of the World?\r\n\r\nMany discussions in the metaphysics and philosophy of physics literature aim to use physics as a guide to elucidate what the world really, fundamentally is like. However, we don\u2019t yet have a confirmed fundamental theory of physics\u2014what\u2019s the next best thing we can possibly say about the fundamental that is properly informed by our best theories of physics? This paper offers a starting point to address this question. It focuses on the literature on the ontology of quantum mechanics, where the problem is especially salient: Many proposals aim at drawing the fundamental ontology of the world from quantum mechanics, even though they often focus on a non-fundamental theory such as nonrelativistic quantum particle mechanics. I argue that quantum mechanics can plausibly be informative about the fundamental if it is taken as a general framework theory, which covers a range of specific concrete theories, including nonrelativistic quantum particle mechanics, the Standard Model of particle physics, and string theory.
