SUMMARY:Exhibition:Being Mixed Race in a Mono-racially Organized World
DESCRIPTION:The exhibit \"Being Mixed Race in a Mono-racially Organized World: Interracial Identity in the U.S. and Around the World — What Research and Mixed Race People Tell Us\" is an exploration into the library's collections about the diversity of mixed race heritage. Through research\, narratives\, demographic data\, and a variety of visual and published materials\, explore multifaceted aspects of mixed race heritage with insights from many perspectives.\n\nThe 2020 U.S. Census illuminated a 276 percent increase in individuals who identify as \"two or more races\" since 2010. In recognition of the growing numbers of mixed race-identifying people at the University of Michigan\, throughout the country\, and across the globe\, we're excited to unveil this new exhibit — a unique exploration of changing demographics and intersectional identities.\n\n[The Hatcher Library will be closed December 21 to January 1.]

SUMMARY:Exhibition:Guardians: Spirits of Protection
DESCRIPTION:This fall\, the Residential College Art Gallery proudly presents Guardians: Spirits of Protection\, an exhibition of evocative figurative sculptures by renowned artist Ann Savageau. The exhibition will be on display from August 26 to November 2\, 2024.\n\nWe invite the university community and the general public to explore this moving collection that delves into themes of loss\, grief\, healing\, and protection. The seventeen life-size figures\, crafted from found objects and beach flotsam\, are a poignant response to the tragedies in Savageau’s life\, including the loss of her three children. Through this deeply personal and powerful work\, Savageau reimagines discarded materials as symbols of new life and resilience\, reflecting the healing power of art.\n\nAnn Savageau will be in residence in Ann Arbor and the Residential College from September 16-20 and October 20-25\, 2024. During her stay\, you are warmly invited to join us for a special artist reception on October 23\, from 4:30 to 6:00 pm in the Gallery. Prior to the reception\, there will be an artist's talk in the Keene Theater at 3:30 pm\, where Savageau will share insights into her creative process and the inspiration behind Guardians.\n\nAnn Savageau\, a former Studio Art instructor at the Residential College from 1978 to 2002\, is not only an artist but also an activist and educator. Her contributions to the Prison Creative Arts Project\, where she taught a weekly art workshop at Jackson Prison for four years\, showcase her commitment to using art as a tool for social change.\n\nDon't miss this opportunity to witness the transformative impact of Savageau's work and engage with her during her residency. We look forward to seeing you at the RC Art Gallery.\n\nImportant Dates:\n\nExhibition: August 26 – November 2\, 2024\nArtist's Talk: October 23\, 2024\, at 3:30 pm\, RC Keene Theater\nArtist Reception: October 23\, 2024\, from 4:30 – 6:00 pm\, RC Art Gallery

SUMMARY:Exhibition:Let the Earth Breathe. Photo Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Sponsored and presented by the Wallenberg Medal and Lecture\, the African Studies Center\, and the Department of Afroamerican and African Studies.\n----\nLet the Earth Breathe: Photo Exhibition\nby Nnimmo Bassey\, 2024 Wallenberg Medalist\, Architect\, Poet\, and African Environmental Activist\; and Omolade Adunbi\, African Studies Center Director\n\nPhoto Exhibition: People Crossings and the Dangers of Oil Pollution -\nOpening Reception: 3:30 PM (Light refreshments served)\nGalleryDAAS\, Haven Hall\, Ground Floor\, Room G648\, 505 S State St.\nExhibition Dates: September 9 - October 11\n\nPhoto Exhibition: Living\, Community\, and Polluted Environment\nInternational Institute Gallery\, Weiser Hall\, 5th Floor\, Room 547\, 500 Church St.\nExhibition Dates: September 9 - 27\n\n- - -\nAbout the Photo Exhibition:\n\nThe Niger Delta region of Nigeria has been described as one of the most polluted spaces in the entire world. For over 60 years\, the region has been host to the activities of multinational oil corporations who partner with the Nigerian state in exploiting oil for profit. Oil was first discovered in the region in 1956\, and the first shipment of the commodity to the international market occurred in 1958 with a consignment of about 5\,000 barrels per day (bpd). Production peaked at about 2.5 million bpd\, but today\, because of community protests\, insurgency\, and general disruption to the activities of corporations\, the number hovers between 1.2 million to 1.4 million bpd. While the state has benefited immensely from oil production\, the same cannot be said of the communities that are hosts to pipelines\, flow stations\, and all of the oil infrastructure that has come to define the entire region. Loss of livelihood\, heavily polluted environment\, death\, and displacement have characterized the region’s interaction with multinational oil corporations such as Shell\, Chevron\, ExxonMobil\, Eni\, Total Energies\, etc.\n\nThis exhibition is a bold attempt to shed light on what it means to live in an oil extractive enclave like the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. The images showcase the lives lived\, the loss\, perseverance\, and determination to survive.\n\nThe exhibition is divided into two parts. The first part of the exhibition is displayed in the DAAS gallery with the sub-theme “People Crossings and the Dangers of Oil Pollution” and is a demonstration of the everyday lived experiences of the inhabitants of many of the enclaves of the Niger Delta. As depicted in the photos\, people cross polluted rivers to go to school and in search of a means of survival.\n\nGallery visitors are invited to cross from the DAAS Gallery to the International Institute Gallery on the 5th floor of Weiser Hall to see the second part of the exhibition\, “Living\, Community\, and Polluted Environment.” This portion of the exhibition demonstrates community resilience in the face of environmental persecution. It shows everyday life amid oil infrastructure that litters the entire landscape of many of the communities in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria.\n\n— - - -\nNnimmo Bassey is an architect\, environmental justice activist\, writer\, and poet. His latest poetry collection is titled I See the Invisible (2023). Other collections include I Will Not Dance to Your Beat(2011) and We Thought It Was Oil But It Was Blood (2002). He is director of the ecological think-tank\, Health of Mother Earth Foundation (HOMEF).\n\nOmolade Adunbi is a professor of Anthropology\, Afroamerican and African Studies and Law at the University of Michigan. His research examines the dynamics of power\, natural resource extractive practices\, governance\, human and environmental rights\, culture\, transnational institutions\, multinational corporations\, and the postcolonial state. His latest book\, Enclaves of Exception: Special Economic Zones and Extractive Practices in Nigeria (Indiana University Press\,2022)\, offers a new approach to exploring the relationship between oil and technologies of extraction and their interrelatedness to China’s interest in free trade zones and its impact on local livelihoods and environmental practices.\n\n*Nnimmo Bassey’s photos courtesy of the Health of Mother Earth Foundation (HOMEF).*

It looks at those who fought in the trenches and those who watched from afar.\n\n[The exhibit includes references to suicide and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder\, which might be distressing for some visitors. SUMMARY:Exhibition:A Gathering
DESCRIPTION:Welcome. Make Yourself At Home.\n \nA Gathering brings together the newest works of art to enter UMMA’s collection — many on display here for the first time. \n \nAs a free\, public museum\, UMMA staff takes care of art for the benefit of the community and society at large. The works on view in this exhibition\, all brought into the Museum between 2019 and the present\, shows how institutions like UMMA are becoming more permeable to societal challenges\, and more nimble in responding to them in service to all in their communities. In this exhibition you will find works that reflect on how global migrations\, race\, gender\, and ecological change shape the way we engage with the world and inform our visions for the future.\n \nThis collection of artistic engagements with issues give us tools to envision who we want to be as individuals\, as a museum\, and as a society\, connected to one another across space and experience.\n \nSo gather here to take in these latest works of art brought here for you. Gather here to be engulfed in their forms and meanings\, to discuss their takes\, to learn\, to disagree. Gather to relax\, make a friend\, drink a coffee\, finish the daily Wordle. Gather to feel full\, to be moved and inspired by all the possible imaginations of what is yet to come.\n \nCurated by Félix Zamora Gómez Irving Stenn\, Jr. Fellow in Public Humanities & Museum Pedagogy\n\nLead support for this exhibition is provided by Lizzie and Jonathan Tisch\, the Richard and Rosann Noel Endowment\, and the University of Michigan Office of the Provost.\n

SUMMARY:Exhibition:Unsettling Histories: Legacies of Slavery and Colonialism
DESCRIPTION:Organized as a response to the Museum’s recent acquisition of Titus Kaphar’s Flay (James Madison)\, this upcoming reinstallation of one of our most prominent gallery spaces forces us to grapple with our collection of European and American art\, 1650-1850.\n \nIn recent times\, growing public awareness of the continued reverberations of the legacy of slavery and colonization has challenged museums to examine the uncomfortable histories contained in our collections\, and challenged the public to probe the choices we make about those stories. Choices about which artists you see in our galleries\, choices about what relevant facts we share about the works\, and choices about what - out of an infinite number of options - we don’t say about them.\n \nPieces in this exhibition were made at a time when the world came to be shaped by the ideologies of colonial expansion and Western domination. And yet\, that history and the stories of those marginalized do not readily appear in the still lives and portraits on display here. By grappling with what is visible and what remains hidden\, we are forced to examine whose stories and histories are prioritized and why.  \n \nIn this online exhibition\, you can explore our efforts to deeply question the Museum’s collection and our own past complicity in favoring colonial voices. In the Museum gallery\, which will open in early 2021\, you’ll be able to experience the changes we’re making to the physical space to highlight a more honest version of European and American history. \n \nBy challenging our own practice\, and continuing to add to what we know and what we write about the works we display\, UMMA tells a more complex and more complete story of this nation - one that unsettles\, and fails to settle for\, simple narratives. \n \n“Invisible things are not necessarily ‘not there’.... Certain absences are so stressed\, so ornate\, so planned\, they call attention to themselves\; arrest us with intentionality and purpose\, like neighborhoods that are defined by the population held away from them.” \n \n— Toni Morrison\n\nLead support for Unsettling Histories: Legacies of Slavery and Colonialism is provided by the University of Michigan Office of the Provost\, the U-M Arts Initiative\, and the Susan and Richard Gutow Endowed Fund.\n

DESCRIPTION:The Center for Global Health Equity is pleased to present the first of our seminar speakers for the 2024-2025 academic year: Mayssa Rekhis\, Lecturer\, School of Public Health and Community Medicine\, University of Gothenburg (Sweden). Rekhis will be presenting her work exploring the intersection of migration\, global health\, & social justice. \n\n--\nThis presentation is co-sponsored by the Office of Global Public Health and the Department of Anthropology\n\nJoin us for a structured conversation with Mayssa Rekhis\, M.D\, Ph.D.\, facilitated by Scott Stonington\, M.D\, Ph.D.\, on navigating the fields of medicine and global health across continents and disciplines\, moving in between practices and theories\, activism and critique\, centers and peripheries. \nThe conversation will focus on Mayssa’s experiences in many global health sites: hospital wards in Tunis\, human rights activist circles in the Southwest Asian and North African region\, UN and international organizations\, and the European academic approach to research and teaching on borders and migration. We will discuss the borders of “global health” itself\, especially the history of separating sites of practice from the sites of theorization and education. The goal will be to explore how a social justice lens can reshape the very structure of global health as a pursuit. \n \n--\nAbout Mayssa Rekhis\nMayssa Rekhis is a physician (graduated from the University of Tunis el-Manar\, Tunisia) and anthropologist (with a Ph.D from the School of Advanced Studies in Social Sciences EHESS - Paris\, France). She is a researcher\, educator\, and activist\, and works at the intersection of these roles\, with a focus on health\, social justice\, and migration. Since 2022\, she has worked as a lecturer in the School of Public Health and Community Medicine at Gothenburg University\, in Sweden\, where she also directs the Master Program of Global Health.\n \n--\nAbout Scott Stonington\nScott Stonington is a physician (practicing primary care in Ypsilanti and hospital medicine at the VA Ann Arbor Medical Center) and anthropologist at U-M. His research broadly addresses the globalization of biomedical ethics and expertise. His first book\, The Spirit Ambulance\, focused on decision-making at the end of life in Thailand. He is currently working on books on pain management in Thailand and on emotion and improvisation in US clinical medicine.\n\n--\nAbout the Center for Global Health Equity\nThe Center for Global Health Equity at the University of Michigan champions collaborative efforts to address health disparities in low- and middle-income countries. Based at the University of Michigan\, the Center thrives on collaboration\, embracing both interdisciplinary and co-design approaches. By uniting U-M faculty\, staff\, and students with external \nstakeholders\, we amplify our impact on individuals and communities in need.

SUMMARY:Livestream / Virtual:Positive Links Speaker Series
DESCRIPTION:Positive Links Speaker Series: Hope for Cynics: The Surprising Science of Human Goodness\nJamil Zaki\nTuesday\, September 10\, 2024\n3:00 - 4:00 p.m. ET \nFree\, registration required\nIn-Person and Online Options\n \nEvent link: \nhttps://positiveorgs.bus.umich.edu/events/hope-for-cynics-the-surprising-science-of-human-goodness/\n \nPositive Links: \nThe Positive Links Speaker Series\, presented by Michigan Ross’ Center for Positive Organizations\, offers inspiring and practical science-based strategies to build and bolster thriving organizations. Attendees learn from leading positive organizational scholars and connect with our community of academics\, students\, staff\, and leaders. \n \nAbout the talk: \nCynicism is an understandable response to a world full of injustice and inequality. But in many cases\, it is misplaced. Dozens of studies find that people fail to realize how kind\, generous\, and open-minded others really are. Cynical thinking deepens social problems: when we expect the worst in people\, we often bring it out of them. We don’t have to remain stuck in this cynicism trap.\n\nJoin Jamil Zaki\, author of  \"Hope for Cynics: The Surprising Science of Human Goodness\,\" in a fireside chat with Ethan Kross to learn the secret for beating back cynicism: hopeful skepticism—thinking critically about people and our problems\, while simultaneously acknowledging our power. Through science and storytelling\, Jamil will share how hopeful skepticism can strengthen relationships\, schools\, businesses\, and social movements. This philosophy isn’t about naïve optimism\; it’s about magnifying the good in people while remaining critical. Hopeful skepticism honors humanity’s strengths while confronting our weaknesses head-on.\n \nAbout Zaki: \nJamil Zaki is a full professor of psychology at Stanford University. He and his colleagues study social connection\, including empathy\, cooperation\, and trust (see ssnl.stanford.edu for details)\, and develop tools to help people connect more effectively.\n\nDr. Zaki received his BA in cognitive neuroscience from Boston University and his PhD in psychology from Columbia University and conducted postdoctoral research at the Harvard Center for Brain Science. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles and received about two dozen awards from scientific associations and universities. In 2019 he was awarded the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE)\, the US Government’s highest honor for researchers at his career stage.\n\nHost: \nEthan Kross\, Faculty Associate\, Center for Positive Organizations\; Professor of Psychology and Management & Organizations\, University of Michigan\n \nSeries Sponsors: \nThe Center for Positive Organizations thanks the Sanger Leadership Center\, Tauber Institute for Global Operations\, and Samuel Zell & Robert H. Lurie Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies for their support of the 2024-25 Positive Links Speaker Series. \n \nSeries Promotional Partners: \nAdditionally\, we thank Ann Arbor SPARK and the Managerial and Organizational Cognition (MOC) Division of the Academy of Management for their Positive Links Speaker Series promotional partnerships.

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:Student CA Seminar - Gröbner bases and noetherianity (up to symmetry)
DESCRIPTION:Gröbner bases are computational and combinatorial tools in algebra and geometry. In this talk\, we'll introduce them and relate the existence of finite Gröbner bases to the noetherianity property. We'll then give an adaptation of Gröbner bases for non-noetherian rings that takes into account natural equivariant structures of the rings and describe how such rings exhibit \"noetherianity up to symmetry\".

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:CM-AMO Seminar | Coherent and Magneto-Optical Kerr Spectroscopy at Extremely High Magnetic Fields
DESCRIPTION:Static and magneto-optical Kerr effect measurements are used to investigate a host of kagome lattice helimagnets and topological magnetic materials. These measurements are performed at extremely high magnetic fields and as a function of temperature enabling us to investigate their full phase diagram. \n\nUnlike these conventional excitons formed from extended Bloch states\, excitonic bound states from intrinsically many body localized states are rare and peculiar. Such a spin–orbit-entangled exciton state appears below the Néel temperature of 150 K in NiPS3\, an antiferromagnetic van der Waals material. This exciton is thought to arise intrinsically from the many-body states of the Zhang–Rice state. The excitonic transition shows an extremely narrow linewidth and was attributed to a transition from a Zhang–Rice triplet to a Zhang–Rice singlet. \n\nThese excitons are thought to be coupled to zigzag antiferromagnetic order in this layered antiferromagnetic insulator. The exciton exhibits a narrow photoluminescence linewidth of roughly ~350 μeV with near-unity linear polarization. Furthermore\, this excitonic transition shows strong linear dichroism over a broad spectral range. In addition\, over ten exciton-A1g-phonon bound states on the high-energy side of the exciton resonance were observed and were assigned to a strong modulation of the ligand-to-metal charge-transfer energy by electron–lattice interactions. By applying an in-plane magnetic field\, manipulation of the photoluminescence polarization can be achieved. We combine different spectroscopic tools such as linear and time-resolved spectroscopy in magnetic fields up to 25 Tesla to understand the coherent properties of this exitonic transition. Magnetic field and temperature dependent four-wave mixing\, and multidimensional spectroscopy measurements will be discussed.

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:Utilizing Biocatalysis and Synthetic Chemistry to Access New Natural Products
DESCRIPTION:Natural products (NPs) are a bountiful source of bioactive molecules. Bioinformatics data suggest hundreds-of-thousands of novel NPs remain to be discovered. Unfortunately\, many NPs are not produced under standard laboratory conditions. We are developing methods to access NPs from cryptic biosynthetic gene clusters (BGCs) utilizing a combination of bioinformatics\, synthetic chemistry\, and biocatalysis. Specifically\, we are focused in two areas: cyclic peptides and γ-butyrolactone (GBL) hormones. For cyclic peptides\, we recently developed SNaPP (Synthetic Natural Product Inspired Cyclic Peptides). SNaPP expedites bioactive molecule discovery by combining bioinformatics predictions of non-ribosomal peptide synthetases with chemical synthesis of the predicted natural products. SNaPP enabled us to discover several bioactive cyclic peptides. However\, it also opened our eyes to the challenge of synthesizing small cyclic peptides. Using the results from SNaPP\, we identified a PBP-like cyclase capable of performing challenging cyclizations\, such as for tetrapeptides with a greatly expanded substrate scope that could have great utility as a biocatalyst. For GBLs\, these molecules have previously been found to induce production of many bioactive NPs. Over half of Streptomyces strains are predicted to have GBL signaling pathways. Unfortunately\, only a few GBLs and their cognate repressors are known because 1) GBLs are produced at very low quantities and 2) no rapid\, efficient assays exist to identify them. We bioinformatically predicted previously uncharacterized GBL receptors that we predict bind to known GBLs or close derivatives. We have developed synthetic and biocatalytic methods to access GBLs and derivatives in fewer steps and improved stereoselectivies. Finally\, we have developed GFP-based assays that allow rapid identification of active hormones. This information will allow us to further explore the addition of exogenous hormones as a method to induce production of cryptic biosynthetic gene clusters.

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:Ziwet Lecture I: Lorentzian Polynomials\, Matroids over Hyperfields\, and Related Topics
DESCRIPTION:Lorentzian polynomials serve as a bridge between continuous and discrete convex analysis\, with tropical geometry providing the critical link. The tropical connection is used to produce Lorentzian polynomials from discrete convex functions\, leading for example to a short proof of Mason's conjecture on the number of independent sets of a matroid. This lecture series will explore the intricate relationships among Grassmannians over hyperfields\, dequantization processes\, and the theory of Lorentzian polynomials. In ongoing collaborative work with Matt Baker\, Mario Kummer\, and Oliver Lorscheid\, we extend the connection between Lorentzian polynomials and discrete convex functions to matroids over triangular hyperfields\, as introduced by Viro. This extension deepens our understanding of the space of Lorentzian polynomials\, revealing a complex interplay among analysis\, combinatorics\, and geometry.\n\nThe three lectures in this series are designed to be accessible to a broad audience and appropriate for a Department Colloquium.\n\nAmong his many honors\, Prof. Huh is a recipient of the Fields Medal (2022)\, the MacArthur Fellowship (2022)\, and the New Horizons in Mathematics Prize (2019). He received his PhD in Mathematics from U-M in 2014.

SUMMARY:Lecture / Discussion:Wallenberg Medal and Lecture | Nnimmo Bassey\, Environmental Leader\, Architect\, Poet
DESCRIPTION:Full details on the Wallenberg website: https://myumi.ch/kZdE2\n\nNnimmo Bassey\, executive director of the Health of Mother Earth Foundation and a global environmental activist\, will receive the 2024 Wallenberg Medal from the University of Michigan on Tuesday\, September 10th in Ann Arbor.\n\nNnimmo Bassey is an architect and director of the Nigeria-based ecological think-tank\, Health of Mother Earth Foundation (HOMEF) and member of the steering committee of Oilwatch International\, a network resisting the expansion of fossil fuel extraction in the Global South. He chaired Friends of the Earth International (2008-2012)\, was a co-recipient of the 2010 Right Livelihood Award\, also known as the “Alternative Nobel Prize\,” and received the Rafto Human Rights Prize in 2012. Bassey has received honorary doctorate degrees from University of York (UK) in 2019 and from York University (Canada) in 2023. Bassey’s books include *To Cook a Continent: Destructive Extraction* and *The Climate Crisis in Africa and Oil Politics: Echoes of Ecological War*. His poetry collections include: *We Thought It Was Oil But It Was Blood* (1998)\, *I Will Not Dance to Your Beat* (2010)\, and *I See the Invisible* (2024). \n\n“As an architect\, poet\, writer\, and human rights advocate\, Nnimmo Bassey works to address root cause issues driving climate migration\, environmental and social impacts of extractive production\, and hunger in the Niger Delta. His commitment to socio-ecological justice connects large-scale issues of climate change\, exploitation of natural resources\, and political/corporate intransigence to the lives of individuals in the Niger Delta and beyond\,” said Sioban Harlow\, Professor Emerita of Epidemiology and Global Public Health and chair of the Wallenberg Medal Executive Committee. “Just as Raoul Wallenberg trained as an architect at the University of Michigan before bringing his multifaceted skills to humanitarian work\, Bassey’s background as an architect undergirds his environmental leadership.”\n\n______________________________\n\nThe Wallenberg Medal and Lecture honors the legacy of Raoul Wallenberg who graduated from U-M’s College of Architecture in 1935 and saved the lives of tens of thousands of Hungarian Jews near the end of World War II. In 1944\, at the request of Jewish organizations and the American War Refugee Board\, the Swedish Foreign Ministry sent Wallenberg on a rescue mission to Budapest. Over the course of six months\, Wallenberg issued thousands of protective passports and placed many thousands of Jews in safe houses throughout the besieged city. He confronted Hungarian and German forces to secure the release of Jews\, whom he claimed were under Swedish protection\, and saved more than 80\,000 lives.\n\nAdministered by the University’s Donia Human Rights Center\, U-M awards the Wallenberg Medal to those who\, through their actions and personal commitment\, perpetuate Wallenberg’s extraordinary accomplishments and human values\, and demonstrate the capacity of the human spirit to stand up for the helpless\, to defend the integrity of the powerless\, and to speak out on behalf of the voiceless.\n\nThe Wallenberg Medal and Lecture ceremony is free and open to the public. Tickets are not required. Please direct any inquiries about the event and requests for event accommodations to wallenberglecture@umich.edu or 734-936-3973.

SUMMARY:Lecture / Discussion:The 37th Graham Hovey Lecture with Mazin Sidahmed of Documented
DESCRIPTION:In a deeply polarizing election year\, immigration remains one of the most contentious\, sensationalized issues in American politics. Beyond the partisan rallying cries influencing the presidential race\, immigration plays out in individual communities where needs\, resources and responses often transcend party lines and knee-jerk responses. How journalists cover immigration – and who their coverage ultimately serves – can shape how Americans understand and debate this issue for generations.\n\nJoin Mazin Sidahmed\, 2021 Knight-Wallace Reporting Fellow and co-founder of the non-profit newsroom Documented\, for a discussion on how shifting our journalism focus from national coverage to local news outlets and from “reporting about” to “reporting for and with” immigrant communities can help us discern immigration fact from fiction and improve outcomes for everyone.\n\nThis is an in-person event and will not be live-streamed. However\, a recording of the lecture will be available on our website following the event.

SUMMARY:Performance:Síomha
DESCRIPTION:Independent Irish singer and guitarist Síomha (pronounced She-vah) dances the line between folk\, jazz and neo-soul effortlessly taking audiences on an unexpected and unforgettable journey with her soulful melodies. Her debut album ‘Infinite Space’\, described by The Irish Times as “a seriously accomplished and self-confident debut”\, is a collection of songs in both Irish and English. A kind of cosmic\, folk-informed\, jazz-tinged\, post-pop - it was produced by Grammy-nominated Tyler Duncan and features an all-star lineup of musicians including Joe Dart (Vulfpeck)\, Louis Cato (Bobby McFerrin/ Snarky Puppy)\, Martin Atkinson Borrull (Toucan) and violinist Jeremy Kittel (Bela Fleck/ Chris Thile). Síomha’s voice is full of raw heartfelt experience. When listening to her\, audiences are instantly moved to feel on the deepest level and come out more intimately connected to their own worlds. \n\nhttps://siomhamusic.com/
