SUMMARY:Exhibition:A Prison\, a Prisoner\, and a Prison Guard
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a multimedia exploration of the impact of prisons on countries and communities across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region through the lens of “prison art.” The exhibit delves into the dynamic interplay between incarceration and creative expression to make sense of carceral systems.\n\nBy presenting prison art from various countries in the MENA region\, including Algeria\, Egypt\, Iran\, Iraq\, Lebanon\, Palestine\, Sudan\, Syria\, and Yemen\, this exhibit unfolds as a “journey” into the prison system and demonstrates the ways in which art can be a tool of expression and reconciliation for survivors\, detainees’ families\, and society at large. It promotes drawing parallels between the prison experience in the region and worldwide\, highlights the intentionality of carceral systems\, and expands the conversation to include prison-impacted communities. Viewers are invited to navigate the cross-generational\, human experiences of imprisonment often obscured behind prison walls and within individuals.\n\nCurated by Sumaya Tabbah and Susan Aboeid of The Ḥafathah Collective\, this traveling exhibit was organized by U-M Students Organize for Syria (SOS) in partnership with U-M Library and with support from the U-M Arts Initiative.\n\nPlan to attend the related discussion\, \"Art\, Justice\, and Carcerality: The Role of Creative Expression in the Pursuit of Justice\,\" on February 6.

DESCRIPTION:The exhibit \"Being Mixed Race in a Mono-racially Organized World: Interracial Identity in the U.S. and Around the World — What Research and Mixed Race People Tell Us\" is an exploration into the library's collections about the diversity of mixed race heritage. Through research\, narratives\, demographic data\, and a variety of visual and published materials\, explore multifaceted aspects of mixed race heritage with insights from many perspectives.\n\nThe 2020 U.S. Census illuminated a 276 percent increase in individuals who identify as \"two or more races\" since 2010. In recognition of the growing numbers of mixed race-identifying people at the University of Michigan\, throughout the country\, and across the globe\, we're excited to unveil this new exhibit — a unique exploration of changing demographics and intersectional identities.

DESCRIPTION:The act of embroidering and weaving designs onto cloth is deeply rooted in Ukrainian traditions. Embellished clothing (sorochky)\, ritual cloths (rushnyky)\, and household textiles accompany a person from birth until death\, punctuating important life events in between. A variety of embroidery patterns are used throughout Ukraine\; some stitches are universally known\, while others are region-specific. SUMMARY:Exhibition:Andy Ross Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:The pieces here are from a large series of works made over the last several years. In them\, Ross explores humor and personal meaning through absurd juxtapositions of pairs of wildly varied images. Each single image is stripped of its original context (be it\, for example\, a history book\, an instruction manual\, or a magazine advertisement)\, placed on a white background like some kind of specimen\, and presented afresh with a new “companion image.” These companion images confront\, contrast and converse with each other\, and thereby build new relationships\, narratives\, jokes\, and contexts.\n\nAndy Ross grew up in Macomb County\, and has been making art in various mediums since the 1970s. He received a BFA degree from College for Creative Studies\, and an MFA degree from University of Michigan. He has taught photography\, art\, and web design at colleges in California and Michigan. His photographs and collages have been exhibited in schools\, galleries\, and museums across the United States.

DESCRIPTION:This body of work represents a playful exploration of form\, color\, and scale through the lens of cellular shapes. Inspired by the complex patterns of biological life\, the pieces are a celebration of growth\, transformation\, and the joy of experimentation. The use of non-precious materials\, such as wood balls and paint\, allowed for a liberating approach to composition and color\, while the spherical forms and circular panels evoke the look of petri dishes—symbolizing both scientific curiosity and organic development.\nBorn in Detroit\, Elizabeth is a multidisciplinary artist and mother based in the metro Detroit area\, where she works from a studio in her home. With a background in bench jewelry\, her earlier work focused on studio jewelry and was represented by Galerie Noel Guyomarc’h in Montreal.\nElizabeth’s work has been exhibited both locally and internationally. She holds a BA in Jewelry Design\, with First Class Honours\, from Central Saint Martins in London\, a BFA from the University of Michigan\, and an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art\, where she specialized in Metalsmithing and Architecture. Her diverse practice spans jewelry\, sculpture\, and installation\, blending materials and techniques to explore themes of production\, growth\, transformation\, and organic form.

DESCRIPTION:*On The World With The World* is an exhibition of 40 artworks by over 24 artists from the Progressive Art Studio Collective (PASC) program. PASC is the first progressive art studio and exhibition program in Detroit and Wayne County dedicated to supporting artists with developmental disabilities and mental health differences to advance artistic practices and build individual careers in the art and design fields.\n\nThis exhibition introduces the PASC program\, and the wide range of styles and ways of working that drive this community of artists\, to the Ann Arbor community. The exhibition is hung salon style\, referencing the communal character of the Osterman Common Room as a social gathering space. It intends to bring engaged people together for conversation on art\, disabilities\, and questions of access in the art world.\n\nPASC embraces the philosophy that creating an artwork is an expressive and communal act whereby an individual communicates their unique perspective on the world with the world.

SUMMARY:Exhibition:Red Summer: Racial Violence in the American Landscape\, 1917-1923
DESCRIPTION:The Red Summer portfolio represents the stories of various locations in the American landscape where racial violence (often characterized as “Race Wars” at the time) erupted between 1917 and 1923. These years of conflict reveal several aspects of racial anxiety that inform our contemporary experience\, including\, though not limited to\; racism\, fear of violent black revolt\, lynching\, poverty\, mass incarceration\, and competition for employment. The term “Red Summer” was first used by James Weldon Johnson to describe the violent attacks against black communities during 1919.  \n\nThough the events of the early twentieth century seem to be remote and fading apparitions of an American past\; my work is concerned with the power and influence of our shared historical narrative upon the present. The upheaval of Red Summer occurred approximately fifty years after the American Civil War\, fifty years before the height of the Civil Rights Era\, and three centuries after the first enslaved Africans arrived in English colonies that would become the United States. \n\nThe project combines photographs of the contemporary landscape made at or near the site of racial conflict with fragmented selections of contemporaneous newspaper reporting (1917-1923). In many cases\, the newsprint images include the surrounding stories or advertisements. The combination of the landscape photograph and the reproduction of newspaper fragments (which invade the contemporary with a narrative from the past)\, is a rupture and a conversation on the timeline between past and present.

DESCRIPTION:In Winter 2025\, the Lane Hall exhibit space will feature a portraiture series titled Redefining the Crown showcasing the powerful stories of six Black breast cancer survivors.\n\nBased on a photo essay by U-M Faculty Versha Pleasant (MD/MPH) and Ava Purkiss (PhD) in Medicine at Michigan\, this exhibition examines the cultural and personal significance of hair within Black communities\, particularly through the lens of breast cancer treatment and recovery. The term \"crown\" is deeply symbolic in Black culture\, signifying beauty\, strength\, and identity. The featured photo essay by photographer Tafari Stevenson-Howard captures the intimate journeys of Ann Chatman\, Tanisha Kennedy\, Felecia McDaniel\, Shantell Elaine McCoy\, Tamara Lynn Myles\, and Veleria Banks.\n\nThrough their narratives and portraits\, the exhibit examines how these women have navigated the profound impact of hair loss caused by chemotherapy\, inviting the audience to witness their stories with radical empathy. It explores the cultural pride and personal identity intricately tied to their hair\, and how these elements are redefined amidst their battles with breast cancer.\n\nThe exhibit will be on view from January 21\, 2025 to August 8\, 2025. This exhibition is presented with support from IRWG\, the Department of Women's and Gender Studies\, and Michigan Medicine. \n\nLocated on the first floor of Lane Hall (204 S. State Street)\, the Exhibit Space is free and open to the public\, M-F\, 9am-4pm.

Features such as exquisite typeface design\, letterpress printing\, handmade paper\, traditional illustration techniques like woodcut and engraving\, and the inclusion of original art by renowned artists highlight the presses' dedication to artistry and detail.\n\nThe display opens with an edition of \"The Works of Geoffrey Chaucer\,\" published in 1896 by William Morris at his Kelmscott Press\, a pivotal press that greatly influenced the development of the private press movement as a means of preserving and revitalizing the fine printing and art traditions of the past. Additionally\, the exhibit includes some examples of artist’s proofs\, offering a glimpse into the intricate creative process behind these exceptional works.\n\nThese books are on loan from the collection of Bill Heidrich\, a long-time supporter of the University of Michigan Library.

DESCRIPTION:The leaf surface is a dynamic landscape where tiny\, specialized structures help plants interact with the world around them. Let’s bring this world into view! Join us for an exhibit that highlights the complex and often beautiful anatomy of leaves from the Matthaei collection. Plants throughout the conservatory will be paired with microscope photographs and micro-CT scans that illustrate the otherwise invisible structures that protect leaves from chewing insects\, absorb (or repel!) water\, and even recruit “bodyguards”. You won’t look at leaves the same way again! \n\nThis project is a collaboration between MBGNA and the Weber and Vasconcelos labs in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology\, led by PhD student Rosemary Glos.

SUMMARY:Exhibition:Unsettling Histories: Legacies of Slavery and Colonialism
DESCRIPTION:Organized as a response to the Museum’s recent acquisition of Titus Kaphar’s Flay (James Madison)\, this upcoming reinstallation of one of our most prominent gallery spaces forces us to grapple with our collection of European and American art\, 1650-1850.\n \nIn recent times\, growing public awareness of the continued reverberations of the legacy of slavery and colonization has challenged museums to examine the uncomfortable histories contained in our collections\, and challenged the public to probe the choices we make about those stories. Choices about which artists you see in our galleries\, choices about what relevant facts we share about the works\, and choices about what - out of an infinite number of options - we don’t say about them.\n \nPieces in this exhibition were made at a time when the world came to be shaped by the ideologies of colonial expansion and Western domination. And yet\, that history and the stories of those marginalized do not readily appear in the still lives and portraits on display here. By grappling with what is visible and what remains hidden\, we are forced to examine whose stories and histories are prioritized and why.  \n \nIn this online exhibition\, you can explore our efforts to deeply question the Museum’s collection and our own past complicity in favoring colonial voices. In the Museum gallery\, which will open in early 2021\, you’ll be able to experience the changes we’re making to the physical space to highlight a more honest version of European and American history. \n \nBy challenging our own practice\, and continuing to add to what we know and what we write about the works we display\, UMMA tells a more complex and more complete story of this nation - one that unsettles\, and fails to settle for\, simple narratives. \n \n“Invisible things are not necessarily ‘not there’.... SUMMARY:Exhibition:Michelle Hinojosa: Logcabins
DESCRIPTION:Stamps Gallery commissioned Michelle Hinojosa (MFA\, 2023) to reimagine the pillars on Division Street that flank the Gallery. Hinojosa has created log cabin quilts to adorn the columns in front of Stamps Gallery. The log cabin quilts traditionally represent the warm hearth at the center of a home. This installation reflects on the interplay between home\, placemaking\, labor\, and intergenerational memories of migration. Rather than quilting cotton designed to softly embrace the body\, these quilts are sewn from outdoor grade\, UV-resistant polyester. The quilt is an ode to Hinojosa’s grandmother who illegally crossed the US/Mexico border holding her babies and her quilts. As she and her family drove across the United States to work in the fields of the Salinas Valley\, the quilts offered a safe space for her and her family. Hinojosa celebrates their resilience to her grandmother and elders while also drawing attention to precarity and violence experienced by refugees and migrants crossing the US-Mexico border in our present today.\nArtist’s bio:\nMichelle Inez Hinojosa is an artist\, educator\, and researcher whose work is informed by Indigenous and Latine/x/a/o studies. Born and raised in Texas\, she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in both drawing and painting and art education with a minor in art history at the University of North Texas. She holds a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Michigan. She works with quilting\, bead weaving\, embroidery\, jewelry\, transparent film installations\, painting\, ceramics\, and sculpture to honor and explore the history of migration in her family and humanize the current discourse around migration still occurring at the southern border. Alongside her artwork she maintains a writing practice to re-story\, re-make\, and re-claim the often subordinated narratives of Latinx\, Chicanx\, Mexican\, and Texican peoples. \n\nRecently\, Hinojosa was named an inaugural Creative Careers Artist in Residence at the University of Michigan\, she has also attended residencies at Mildred's Lane (Pennsylvania)\, Anderson Ranch Art Center (Aspen\, CO) and The Cedars Union (Dallas\, TX).

Black Love Day is intended for all people to exhibit love through action and not just words.\n\nWe are honored to welcome Natalie Malone (she/her)\, is a counseling psychology doctoral candidate and Black Feminist researcher who prioritizes Black womxn's *wholistic health and sexual/reproductive health. Additionally\, Natalie is a certified yoga teacher and pilates instructor who integrates complementary health approaches and embodiment practices into her research\, clinical services\, and consultation. Her professional experience includes clinical work in numerous mental health settings\, community-based participatory action research and outreach\, and federally funded project management. Natalie is a published author with 46 publications in scientific journals and textbooks. DESCRIPTION:I will discuss a class of multi-Higgs doublet extensions of the Standard Model that solves the strong CP problem with profound consequences for the flavor sector. A flavor symmetry\, G\, that acts on Higgs and quark fields is a key feature of these theories. CP and G are only softly broken in the scalar potential\, so that for certain choices of G charges\, the strong CP parameter is zero at tree-level. I will then discuss radiative corrections in this class of theories\, as well as the contribution from higher-dimensional operators and the connections with the hierarchies observed in quark masses and mixing angles.

DESCRIPTION:Lunchtime yoga is an opportunity to provide your body with some gentle movement\, strengthening\, stretching and balancing.  We will use the poses (asanas) to reconnect with your senses\, to breathe some life back into ourselves\, find internal balance and to recover from the   efforts of the work week.  The focus is on calm reconnection with ourselves rather than working out. Open to anyone 18 years or older.  Please bring a mat and a water bottle. You can’t deny that there’s something about a black-and-white photograph that feels… stuffy. With portraits showing people with their shirts buttoned right to the neck and everything in shades of gray and brown\, our imaginations can incline to thinking of the past as a bit staid\, if not downright dull. But look a little closer\, and you’ll see signs that the fashion choices available to those who came before us were more colorful than you might first think. From the fabrics they wore\, to the games they played\, or the books they read\, their world was alive with bright hues. This exhibit invites you to reimagine history with a fuller color palette and picture the vibrancy and joy that just might be hidden behind the unsmiling photographs.\n\nExhibition opening weekdays from 12-4.

DESCRIPTION:University Carillonist Tiffany Ng performs on the Charles Baird Carillon\, an instrument of 53 bronze bells located inside the Burton Memorial Tower. The largest bell\, which strikes the hour\, weighs 12 tons\, while the smallest bell\, 4½ octaves above\, weighs just 15 pounds.\n\nThirty-minute recitals are performed on the Charles Baird Carillon at noon every weekday that classes are in session\, followed by visitor Q&A with the carillonist. The bell chamber may be accessed via a combination of elevator and stairs. Take the elevator to the highest floor possible (floor 8)\, and then climb two flights of stairs (39 steps) to the bell chamber (floor 10). Hearing protection earmuffs are provided for visitors. Be prepared to walk on ice and snow in the bell chamber during winter. Built in 1936\, the Charles Baird Carillon is not ADA accessible. Visitors with mobility concerns are invited to visit the Lurie Carillon.

Center and the Newnan Academic Advising Center\, is excited to offer free mental health education and support groups for all students! These groups are facilitated by a U-M employee. The first half is an educational presentation on a mental health topic and provide space to share your experience with others during the second half. DESCRIPTION:This webinar will provide an overview of dramatic changes in courtship processes\, spouse choice and interrelationships between courtship process and marital instability. Using the data from Chitwan Valley Family Study\, a non-Western setting\, which until recently was characterized as a society with arranged marriage\, gender segregated marital relationships\, loveless marriages and very low level of divorce\, we investigate the role of couple’s concordance in reporting courtship shaping the relationships between courtship and marital instability. Understanding the complexities between concordance in courtship and marital instability is essential for developing interventions and support systems that promote healthy and stable marriages. SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:Learning Seminar in Algebraic Combinatorics: Corresponding simplicial generators to nested matroid quotients
DESCRIPTION:Last week David taught us a new set of generators of the Chow ring of a matroid called the simplicial generators. In the special case when our matroid is the uniform matroid of rank and dimension n\, the Chow ring agrees with the Chow ring of the permutahedron\, a particularly nice toric variety. I will show that in this case\, the simplicial generators correspond to nested quotients of matroids on n elements. The tool I will introduce relating the two are Minkowski weights\, which give an alternate description of the Chow rings of toric varieties. Either at the end of my talk or in our talk week\, we will use this relationship to analyze the kernel of the surjection from the Chow ring of the permutahedron \Sigma_n to the Chow ring of a matroid with ground set [n]\, leading to a proof of Poincare duality.

DESCRIPTION:Spontaneous synchronization is at the core of many natural phenomena. Your heartbeat is maintained because cells contract in a synchronous wave\; some bird species synchronize their motion into flocks\; quantum synchronization is responsible for laser action and superconductivity. \n\nThe transition to synchrony\, or between states of different patterns of synchrony\, is a dynamical phase transition that has much in common with conventional phase transitions of state – for example solid to liquid\, or magnetism – but the striking feature of driven dynamical systems is that the components are “active”. Consequently quantum systems with dissipation and decay are described by non-Hermitian Hamiltonians\, and active matter can abandon Newton’s third law and have non-reciprocal interactions. This substantially changes the character of many-degree-of-freedom dynamical phase transitions between steady states and the critical phenomena in their vicinity\, since the critical point is an “exceptional point” where eigenvalues become degenerate and eigenvectors coalesce.\n\nWe will illustrate this in several different systems – a Bose-Einstein condensate of polaritons\, models of multicomponent active matter such as flocks of birds\, generalized Kuramoto models\, and others. SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:Van Eenam Lecture #2 Optimal Control of Conditional Processes
DESCRIPTION:In this talk\, we consider the conditional control problem introduced by P.L. Lions in his lectures at the College de France in November 2016. As originally stated\, the problem does not fit in the usual categories of control problems considered in the literature\, so its solution requires new ideas\, if not new technology. In his lectures\, Lions emphasized some of the major differences with the analysis of classical stochastic optimal control problems and in so doing\, raised the question of the possible differences between the value functions resulting from optimization over the class of Markovian controls as opposed to the general family of open loop controls. While the equality of these values is accepted as a \"folk theorem\" in the classical theory of stochastic control\,  optimizing an objective function whose values strongly depend upon the past history of the controlled trajectories of the system is a strong argument in favor of differences between the optimization results over these two different classes of control processes. The goal of the talk is to elucidate this quandary and provide elements of response to Lions' original conjecture. We shall report on the solution of the \"soft killing\" case published in a joint work with M. Lauriere and P.L.Lions in the Illinois Journal of Mathematics\, a recent \"conditional mimicking\" theorem proven with D. Lacker\, and further investigations currently worked out with S. Daudin.

DESCRIPTION:Legendary Hollywood tubist and composer Jim Self presents a master class with students from the U-M Tuba & Euphonium Studio. Free and open to the public\; presented as part of a campus residency with Dr. Self sponsored by the Sally Fleming Guest Master Class Fund.\n\nJIM SELF is a Los Angeles based freelance and studio musician\, a veteran of thousands of motion pictures\, television shows and records\, and tuba soloist on many prominent movies. His tuba was the \"Voice of the Mothership\" in *Close Encounters of the Third Kind*. Other solos can be heard in many of John Williams' sound tracks including *Home Alone* I & II\, and *Jurassic Park*\, James Horner's *Casper*\, Jerry Goldsmith's *Dennis the Menace* and Marc Shaiman's *Sleepless in Seattle*. For many years he was first tuba for John Williams\, James Horner\, James Newton Howard\, John Debney\, and others. Jim has recorded with hundreds of artists including Placid Domingo\, Mel Torme\, Frank Sinatra\, Barbra Streisand and Don Ellis. He is principal Tuba/Cimbasso with the Pacific and Pasadena Symphonies\, the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra and the Los Angeles Opera Orchestras. He has recently worked on *Star Wars* VII\,VIII and IX and *Indiana Jones* 5 with Williams. In the 2007-2008 season\, Pacific Symphony commissioned him to write a feature work called \"Tour de Force\". This 13 minute piece was premiered in April 2008 at the Symphony's home\, the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Hall in Orange County. To date Jim has composed over 100 works for symphony\, band\, brass band\, chamber music and solo works.\n \nBorn in 1943 in Franklin\, Pennsylvania\, Self holds degrees from Indiana University of Pennsylvania\, Catholic University\, and a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Southern California\, where he recently retired after 48 years as Adjunct Professor of tuba and chamber music. In March 2003\, Self was given a Distinguished Alumni Award by Indiana University of Pennsylvania - a university-wide honor only given to 290 of its more than 100\,000 graduates. In addition\, in June 2008 Self received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Tuba-Euphonium Association at the Cincinnati Conservatory. In the March 2019 issue of the AFM *International Musician* Jim was on the cover and featured in an extensive story. Early in his career he was in the U.S. Army Band in Washington\, DC and was the Tuba professor at the University of Tennessee. Jim has produced 23 solo jazz and classical recordings that feature jazz greats like Gary Foster\, Pete Christlieb\, Francisco Torres\, Ron Kalina and Warren Luening. Many feature his own unique instrument\, the FLUBA (picture a tuba-sized Flugel Horn). His latest recordings are *Flying Circus*\, Music for Brass Quintet – all original music by Jim Self featuring 25 of the top brass players in Los Angeles including 10 members of the Pacific Symphony\; *Out on the Coast* – a triple CD by the 13-piece David Angel Jazz Ensemble\; and three Duo jazz CDs with guitarist John Chiodini: *Floating in Winter\, *The Light Fantastic*\, *Hangin Out*\, *Touch and Go* and *Feels So Good*. While most of Jim’s CDs are Jazz\, several are Classical too. His music is available fro Potenza Music and recordings are available from: www.jimself.com and Bandcamp.com. Jim is a Yamaha Performing Artist. Jim and his wife Jamie are proud to endow many music scholarships at American universities.

SUMMARY:Performance:The Music of Jim Self: Chamber Works and a Jazz Set
DESCRIPTION:Legendary Hollywood tubist and composer Jim Self performs a guest recital featuring his own works of chamber music and jazz. Presented as part of a residency sponsored by the Sally Fleming Guest Master Class Fund.\n\nJIM SELF is a Los Angeles based freelance and studio musician\, a veteran of thousands of motion pictures\, television shows and records\, and tuba soloist on many prominent movies. His tuba was the \"Voice of the Mothership\" in *Close Encounters of the Third Kind*. Other solos can be heard in many of John Williams' sound tracks including *Home Alone* I & II\, and *Jurassic Park*\, James Horner's *Casper*\, Jerry Goldsmith's *Dennis the Menace* and Marc Shaiman's *Sleepless in Seattle*. For many years he was first tuba for John Williams\, James Horner\, James Newton Howard\, John Debney\, and others. Jim has recorded with hundreds of artists including Placid Domingo\, Mel Torme\, Frank Sinatra\, Barbra Streisand and Don Ellis. He is principal Tuba/Cimbasso with the Pacific and Pasadena Symphonies\, the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra and the Los Angeles Opera Orchestras. He has recently worked on *Star Wars* VII\,VIII and IX and *Indiana Jones* 5 with Williams. In the 2007-2008 season\, Pacific Symphony commissioned him to write a feature work called \"Tour de Force\". This 13 minute piece was premiered in April 2008 at the Symphony's home\, the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Hall in Orange County. To date Jim has composed over 100 works for symphony\, band\, brass band\, chamber music and solo works.\n \nBorn in 1943 in Franklin\, Pennsylvania\, Self holds degrees from Indiana University of Pennsylvania\, Catholic University\, and a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Southern California\, where he recently retired after 48 years as Adjunct Professor of tuba and chamber music. In March 2003\, Self was given a Distinguished Alumni Award by Indiana University of Pennsylvania - a university-wide honor only given to 290 of its more than 100\,000 graduates. In addition\, in June 2008 Self received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Tuba-Euphonium Association at the Cincinnati Conservatory. In the March 2019 issue of the AFM *International Musician* Jim was on the cover and featured in an extensive story. Early in his career he was in the U.S. Army Band in Washington\, DC and was the Tuba professor at the University of Tennessee. Jim has produced 23 solo jazz and classical recordings that feature jazz greats like Gary Foster\, Pete Christlieb\, Francisco Torres\, Ron Kalina and Warren Luening. Many feature his own unique instrument\, the FLUBA (picture a tuba-sized Flugel Horn). His latest recordings are *Flying Circus*\, Music for Brass Quintet – all original music by Jim Self featuring 25 of the top brass players in Los Angeles including 10 members of the Pacific Symphony\; *Out on the Coast* – a triple CD by the 13-piece David Angel Jazz Ensemble\; and three Duo jazz CDs with guitarist John Chiodini: *Floating in Winter\, *The Light Fantastic*\, *Hangin Out*\, *Touch and Go* and *Feels So Good*. While most of Jim’s CDs are Jazz\, several are Classical too. His music is available fro Potenza Music and recordings are available from: www.jimself.com and Bandcamp.com. Jim is a Yamaha Performing Artist. Jim and his wife Jamie are proud to endow many music scholarships at American universities.\n
