With nowhere to escape\, boiling tensions in the camp push Nasser to another reality. Highly experimental filmmaking.\n\nDirector Noaz Deshe works as a director and musician. DESCRIPTION:August 18 - October 24\, 2025Exhibition Reception: September 11\, 3-5 p.m.\n\"In their second year\, Stamps students complete a major milestone: Second Year Studio (SYS). It’s a course where\, per the syllabus\, students 'develop the capacity to work independently by identifying\, exploring\, and pursuing a single independent project that involves multiple iterations.' Each student takes their own path\, encountering questions that can shape the direction of their creative practice—how do I manage my time? How much constraint vs. freedom do I thrive on? What subject matter do I care about most deeply? How do my ideas about my future goals intersect with the work I want to make now? At the end of the semester\, students formally report on their experience in a presentation called the Sophomore Review\, and a faculty panel offers individualized feedback. \nUntil now\, the classroom studios and review rooms have been the only place to catch a glimpse of the art and design work resulting from this pivotal course. Last year\, Associate Dean for Academic Programs Rebecca Strzelec proposed something new: an exhibition installed throughout the Art &amp\; Architecture Building during the summer that would celebrate Second Year Studio work and help to welcome the community back in the Fall. This inaugural 2025 Second Year Studio Exhibition showcases our rising third-years and transfer students\, and invites first-years and other newcomers to explore both the building\, and the creative possibilities ahead. DESCRIPTION:This group exhibition is an in-depth exploration of the role of art as a powerful catalyst for environmental activism. At first glance\, these works each possess striking beauty. However\, a closer inspection reveals a profound and often unsettling depth that challenges one’s perceptions. \n\nThe artworks are imbued with many layers of meaning\, inviting us to engage critically with the themes presented and encouraging us to reflect on our often-fraught relationship with the natural world.   Through a variety of mediums and techniques\, these works prompt us to confront uncomfortable truths about climate change\, habitat loss\, and the disappearing biodiversity around us. \n\nCampbell’s captivating “Heatscape” series transforms what is often an intangible concept into the tangible realm by visually translating heat distribution data to depict the impact of urban design on climate.  This series offers a profound exploration of the intriguing phenomenon known as \"urban heat islands”\, a term that describes urban areas that absorb and radiate significantly more heat than their surrounding rural landscapes due to human activities and infrastructure.\n\n“Heatscape” invites us to engage in a deeper reflection about the profound impact that human ingenuity has wielded over the natural world\, serving as a visual reminder of our responsibility to urban design that is considerate to the environment and communities it impacts. This work challenges us to recognize the interplay between our lifestyles and the environment\, urging a dialogue about sustainable practices that could mitigate the effects of these heat islands.\n\nSnider’s work powerfully illustrates the remnants of industrialization\, capturing the unsettling essence of its aftermath. In his art\, we encounter an urban landscape that is strikingly devoid of human presence\, creating an almost haunting atmosphere. This absence of people amplifies the eerie feeling and serves as a warning about the enduring consequences of industrial progress. It prompts viewers to reflect on the environmental impact and the transformations that society has undergone\, urging us to consider what aspects of our world will persist in the wake of such change. Ultimately\, Snider’s poignant depictions challenge us to confront the stark reality of a landscape altered by human activity\, inviting contemplation on both the beauty and the desolation that can coexist in our modern environments.\n\nSandra Osip’s sculptures delve deeply into the juxtaposition of decay and destruction alongside the concepts of life and growth. Through her abstract structures\, she illustrates the profound effects climate change has on our urban landscapes and the planet as a whole. These pieces serve as a poignant reminder of the delicate balance between nature and human impact\, while Osip’s imaginative flowers evoke a sense of nostalgia and loss\, symbolizing the beauty of what has been irretrievably diminished in our world. By celebrating these natural forms\, she not only honors the richness of biodiversity but also raises awareness about the environmental crisis we face.\n\nCassells’ work not only celebrates a profound connection to nature and sustainable practices but also serves to illuminate the significant impact that climate change has on vulnerable communities. Through her art\, she investigates the intricate relationships between different environmental systems\, emphasizing how they are all interconnected. \n\nBy delving into these themes\, Cassells sheds light on the challenges faced by communities that often bear the brunt of climate change despite contributing the least to the problem. Her exploration encourages a deeper understanding of how environmental changes affect social structures and the lives of people in marginalized areas. In doing so\, she advocates for greater awareness and action to address these issues\, ultimately promoting a more sustainable and equitable future for all. \n\nShanna Merola’s photo-collages are informed by the stories of environmental justice struggles past and present.  Shanna Merola and Halima Afi Cassells collaborated on collage and interactive installations for over five years. Researching\, wandering\, photographing\, and creating together while interrogating the interconnectedness of environmental degradation\, and global corporatism\, and community response.\n\nSobel takes a more straightforward approach by helping us begin to grasp the reality of living in a world affected by climate change.  Her work described as “wilderness-based\, science-inspired”\, serves as a bridge\, connecting viewers to experiences that might seem too distant or unfolding too slowly for most people to comprehend firsthand. In doing so\, she not only raises awareness but also encourages dialogue about the pressing challenges our planet faces. Through her work\, Sobel facilitates a deeper understanding of the interconnection between humanity and the environment\, compelling us to reflect on our role in addressing these urgent issues.\n\nThese diverse approaches to creating art serve as powerful connections to the most critical and pressing environmental issues of our time. This engagement serves to deepen our understanding of these challenges from multiple perspectives\, including cultural\, social\, and scientific viewpoints.  \nFurthermore\, these approaches are not only meant to inform but also to inspire. They challenge us to reconsider our relationship with the planet and encourage us to take actionable steps toward sustainability.

SUMMARY:Exhibition:Cathy Barry Art Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Cathy Barry has a profound connection to the natural world\, which has shaped her artistic journey. She focuses on expressing gratitude\, compassion\, and a sense of responsibility towards environmental protection. After years of working with traditional media such as oil\, acrylic\, and watercolor\, her art is transitioning to more sustainable materials. The pigments she uses in her collages are sourced entirely from plants\, all collected and processed by Cathy herself from various locations throughout Michigan. This natural paint has become a vital part of her expressive palette\, driving her to approach her work with a renewed sense of integrity and awareness of our interconnected ecosystem.\n\nIn her collages\, Cathy skillfully combines paper painted with her homemade botanical pigments and intricately punched shapes\, creating a distinctive micro-scale vocabulary. These miniature worlds are thoughtfully assembled within larger contexts\, challenging our perceptions of the universe and our place within it.\n\nRecently\, Cathy has embarked on a new adventure: creating art directly from plant materials. By collecting\, drying\, and weaving leaves\, she has developed an exciting rhythm in her process. Through simple weaving\, twining\, and basketry techniques\, she has deepened her enthusiasm for and connection to the plants surrounding her in her yard and neighborhood. This integration of materials with form and subject in her work evokes a serene wholeness that reflects nature's inherent wisdom. Additionally\, her journey has sparked a curiosity to explore the historical uses and roles of plants throughout history.\n\nCathy Barry is an artist and instructor living and working in Ann Arbor\, Mi. She is a Lecturer in the University of Michigan (UM) Stamps School of Art and Design\, the UM Program in the Environment and the UM Biological Station.

DESCRIPTION:Sign up for a two-hour\nwork session\, followed by a hot lunch with colleagues. The Faculty On-Campus\nWork Retreats offer a quiet space to work with other scholars and artists\, and\nan opportunity for you to prioritize your research and creative work by committing\nto one or two work sessions before teaching\, service\, and email take over the\nsemester. Lunch\, after the work session\, is a chance to share interests and\nwork with other colleagues\, to learn about each others’ research\, to grow\nprofessional and social networks\, and to experience the University as a\ncollective.\n\n\nThe Work Retreats are open to all ~7\,600 members of\nthe Faculty Senate\, including tenure-track professors\, lecturers\, research\nfaculty\, clinical faculty\, librarians\, archivists\, and curators. SUMMARY:Exhibition:ICE in the Heartland: Community Impacts of Worksite Immigration Raids
DESCRIPTION:ICE in the Heartland showcases a multifaceted project that gathers and disseminates the stories of communities impacted by immigration worksite raids with the aim of bringing underrepresented narratives to news media\, classroom\, and public discourse. This project comprises qualitative public health research conducted in impacted communities and visual arts generated from the research outcomes. Research teams of graduate and undergraduate students from the University of Michigan\, led by Professor William Lopez\, and the University of Iowa\, led by Professor Nicole Novak\, collaborated with a range of community members and organizers at sites of six large-scale immigration worksite raids that occurred in 2018 in Iowa\, Nebraska\, Ohio\, Tennessee\, and Texas. The researchers visited these sites\, spoke to advocates\, detainees\, their families\, and other community members. In conversation with the seventy-seven interviews\, artists Dalia Harris and Carolina Jones Ortiz generated ten images that comprise ICE in the Heartland. On display with the artworks are community member testimonies\, analysis on the public health detriments to immigration worksite raids and deportation\, insights to the artists’ methods\, and the curricular materials used in public outreach programs. \n\nHosted and sponsored by the Institute for Research on Women and Gender and the Department of Women’s and Gender Studies\, U-M.

Kirby’s The Bureau of Personal Belonging is a series of interactive performances set within immersive installations and activated by viewer participation. Through bureaucratic forms\, papers\, postures\, language\, and aesthetics\, audiences are invited to participate in respectful dialogues and playful interactions with the artist. As the 2025 Roman J. Witt Artist-in-Residence\, Kirby spent 12 weeks on campus from January through March of 2025 meeting with students\, faculty\, and staff from the Stamps School and across U-M. SUMMARY:Lecture / Discussion:HET Brown Bag Seminar | Exploring QCD-like Dynamics from Supersymmetry
DESCRIPTION:Understanding the mechanisms of confinement and the dynamics of low-energy QCD remains one of the central open problems in the Standard Model. In this talk\, I will describe how these issues can be explored in a close relative of QCD\, constructed by starting from supersymmetric QCD and systematically breaking supersymmetry through anomaly mediation. These models reproduce the same phases as ordinary QCD\, while allowing us to probe confinement from a different dynamical perspective. Within this framework\, one can compute the η′ potential\, study θ-dependence\, and analyze the phase structure associated with spontaneous CP violation at θ = π. Moreover\, the construction permits a derivation of the analog of the chiral Lagrangian\, enabling explicit tests of the size of a dynamically generated up-quark mass. Strikingly\, we find that in these models the generated contribution could be large enough to account for the full observed up-quark mass.

DESCRIPTION:Matroids are hard. Valuated matroids generalize matroids. Tropical linear spaces are equivalent to valuated matroids. Therefore\, tropical linear spaces are hard\, so are their parameter spaces: the Dressians\, the tropical analog of the Grassmannians. Inside the Dressian there is a nicer subset\, called the tropical Grassmannian\, that parametrizes the tropicalized linear spaces. DESCRIPTION:In characteristic zero\, Castelnuovo proved that a unirational surface is rational. In positive characteristic\, this fails. We discuss the plethora of non-rational\, often general-type\, surfaces that are unirational in positive characteristic. In 1977\, Shioda conjectured that these surfaces are classified by a cohomological property: supersingularity. I will demonstrate a counterexample to this conjecture. We will need a new obstruction that uses ideas from the study of hyperbolicity.

DESCRIPTION:Join us in person for this lecture\, or tune in via livestream at: https://myumi.ch/MkzmE\n\nMore than a hundred years ago\, Einstein predicted that there were ripples in the fabric of space-time traveling at the speed of light: gravitational waves. On September 14\, 2015\, the LIGO detectors in Hanford\, Washington\, and Livingston\, Louisiana in the US registered for the first time ever a loud gravitational wave signal traveling through Earth\, created more than a billion years ago by the merger of two black holes. A spectacular signal was detected by LIGO and the Virgo detector in Europe in 2017\, produced by the collision of two neutron stars\, giving birth to a black hole\, generating also electromagnetic waves (light!) detected by many telescopes and helping us understand the origin of gold. In only a few years from the first detection\, there are now hundreds of new signals from mergers of black holes and/or neutron stars - this is the era of gravitational wave astronomy. We will describe the history and details of the observations\, and the gravity-bright future of the field.\n\nEach fall\, the University of Michigan Physics Department hosts the Ta-You Wu Lecture\, one of the most prestigious lecture events in the Department. SUMMARY:Lecture / Discussion:CAS Guest Lecture. The Politics of 'No!': Armenia's National Survival and Queer Futures
DESCRIPTION:In this talk\, based on Tamar Shirinian's recent book titled\, Survival of a Perverse Nation: Morality and Queer Possibility in Armenia* (Duke University Press\, 2024)\, I discuss the intricate links between two popular rhetorics in Armenia at the time of my research (2012-2014): aylaserutyn (sexual perversion\, attributed by right wing nationalists and by mainstream media to the figuration of the homosexual\, and aylandakutyun (moral perversion) attributed by residents of Yerevan (largely working class) to the figure of the oligarch. These were both\, critically\, moral and not necessarily political narratives that resided in a seemingly overwhelming feeling that the nation was on a perverse path toward its annihilation. According to these narratives of perversion\, Armenia was missing proper Father figures both as national leadership as well as within households\, leading the nation on deviant and improper paths toward becoming something other than Armenia. She locates what the politics of \"No! as forms of aesthetic and stylistic refusal of these daddy politics\, drawing on examples from grass roots initiatives aimed at democratic and not necessarily moral futures\, and argues that rather than mourning these perverse presents lingering on the nation's survival\, we might locate in them queer futures toward liberation.\n   \nTamar R. Shirinian is a cultural anthropologist whose work explores themes of gender\, sexuality\, and political economy and especially their interconnectedness in the postsocialist world\, focused particularly on the Republic of Armenia. Tamar's first book\, *Survival of a Perverse Nation: Morality and Queer Possibility in Armenia*\, which explores homosexual panic and its ties to post-Soviet crises in social reproduction\, was published by Duke University Press in 2024 nd won the 2025 Ruth Benedict Award for Outstanding Monograph from the Association for Queer Anthropology. She is currently working on a second book manuscript\, tentatively entitled *Yakhq and Other Feminisms from the Post-Second World*\, which investigates post-Soviet ideologies and practices of feminism as well as their tensions with one another. Tamar was the co-editor of the 2018 Armenian Review special issue entitled *Queering Armenian Studies* is the editor of the forthcoming volume *Toward a Political Economy of Intimate Life: Social Reproduction Revisited* (Emerald\, 2026)\, is working on a co-edited volume entitled *It is Possible to Cry for the Whole World: Reflections on Armenian Feminist Solidarities* (Wayne State University Press)\, and has published numerous articles in journals such as *Feminist Formations*\, *American Ethnologist*\, *Gender & Society*\, *PoLAR: Political and Legal Anthropology Review*\, and *Anthropology and *Humanism** amongst others. DESCRIPTION:Abstract\n\nThe rapid advancement of sequencing technologies over the last two decades has delivered unprecedented insight into the biology of the human genome. Most strikingly\, the proven single-molecule longread sequencing technologies have delivered the complete\, gapless T2T human genome reference in recent years\, while significant reductions in costs associated with the production of high-output\, highly accurate shortread data in recent months is expected to accelerate the scale and resolution of single-cell\, single-molecule\, multi-omics analyses. All together\, these technology innovations have placed us at the beginning of an exciting era when the knowledge of human genomes can be realized at populational scale to address the unmet needs in human diseases and precision medicine.\n\nAt the Northwest Genomics Center (NWGC)\, we have pioneered a suite of state-of-the-art genomic technologies ranging from long-read sequencing\, single-cell multiomics\, 3D chromatin organization survey\, and spatial omics. Together with advances in data science aimed at systematically characterizing the functional consequences of disease-associated genetic variation\, we have applied these approaches to facilitate multiple NIH precision medicine initiatives\, including rare disease studies in GREGoR\, genomic somatic variation analysis in SMaHT\, and population-based genomic characterization in the All of Us Research Program. Our efforts have catalyzed research into the mechanistic underpinnings of health and disease. I will present how these technologies unlock the genetic alterations affected Mendelian conditions and derive mechanistic insights into how pathogenic variants induce 3D chromatin changes in oncogenic transformation.\n\n\nShort Bio\n\nChia-Lin Wei\, PhD\, focuses her research on the mammalian genome\, which is extensively folded to form complex three-dimensional (3D) chromatin organization to facilitate functional interactions. These 3D structures and functional interactions are dynamic. Understanding these complex functional interactions and their variations will not only advance fundamental biological knowledge but also provide novel insights into human disease that could lead to new treatment paradigms.\n\nDr. Wei's research specifically concentrates on the development and application of advanced genomic technologies to decipher genome structures\, their 3D organizations\, and how they modulate molecular phenotypes and complex traits. Her lab pioneered pair-end-tag (PET) sequencing strategies to advance the understanding of genome variation and transcription regulation in shaping cellular behavior.\n\nIn recent years\, the lab developed a suite of approaches including ChIA-PET\, ChIA-Drop\, and ChIATAC to map 3D chromatin conformation. These methods have transformed the understanding of how noncoding elements regulate transcription during development and disease states. Dr. Wei and her team further improved these assays to derive single-cell and single-molecule resolution for studying complex genome structural variation\, specifically\, the extrachromosomal DNA (ecDNA) function in cancer. In addition\, as one of the pioneers in establishing long-read technologies\, Dr. Wei leverages advances in single-molecule\, long-read sequencing methods to better identify complex structural variants of ecDNA\, their evolution\, and impacts on ecDNA functions

DESCRIPTION:A survey of Greek presence in Asia Minor from antiquity to the early twentieth century\, with particular attention to its various cultural and artistic expressions. The lecture will be rounded off with a presentation of the work devoted to the study of Hellenism in Asia Minor by the Center for Asia Minor Studies in Athens.\n\nPaschalis Kitromilides is a Greek-Cypriot political scientist and intellectual historian. His expertise is on the history of political thought. He has been director of the Center for Asia Minor Studies since 1980 and was Director of the Institute of Neohellenic Research / National Hellenic Research Foundation (2000-2011). He has held visiting appointments at Harvard and Brandeis Universities\, University of Cambridge\, University of Oxford\, the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales\, the European University Institute and the Harvard University Center for Italian Renaissance Studies Villa I Tatti. He is a full member of the Academy of Athens since 2020 at the chair of the History of Political Thought. He is the author or editor of over fifty books and over two hundred and sixty articles and book reviews in academic journals and collective volumes in Greek and English. Besides English and Greek\, his books have appeared in Russian\, Romanian\, Serbian and Bulgarian.

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:Some New Perspectives on Kyle-Back Insider Trading Problems
DESCRIPTION:A Kyle-Back model consists of three types of agents trading on an asset: 1) a (large) population of noise traders\, who are non-strategic and are liquidity providers\; 2) an insider\, who observes the inside information and invests strategically to maximize his gain\; and 3) a market maker\, who observes the total order of the insider and the noise traders and sets the market price. This is a Nash game problem between the insider and the market maker. While there are extensive studies in the math finance literature\, the existing approaches have some undesirable features\, and we aim to overcome two of them.\n\nFirst\, the majority of the existing literature take the PDE approach\, which requires certain Markovian structure of the candidate equilibrium. This constraint makes the existence hard\, and on the other hand excludes the uniqueness result among possibly non-Markovian equilibria. We shall reformulate the problem as a stochastic differential game and use the FBSDE approach. Under certain technical conditions\, we show that the game has a unique equilibrium. This is the first uniqueness result in the literature. Moreover\, our equilibrium is not Markovian in the above sense\, and thus is beyond the reach of the standard approach in the literature.\n\nNext\, in the existing results the insider’s equilibrium strategy has the same scale as the total order of all noise traders. Note that in many applications\, the number of noise traders is large\, then this scale issue is against the intuition\, and more importantly against the medium-sized trades observed in the empirical studies.  We shall introduce a model with legal risk and carry out the asymptotic analysis when the number of noise traders goes to infinity. We derive a stealth index for the insider’s trading volume which confirms the medium-sized trades\, and show that the limit equilibrium\, which is a lot easier to analyze\, is an approximate equilibrium for the original problem.\n\nThe talk is bases on two works\, one joint with Bixing Qiao and the other one with Jin Ma and Weixuan Xia.

DESCRIPTION:Desserts and Dialogue is apart of the How to Flourish Workshop that is offered through Trotter Multicultural Center's workshop/ and or programming series. HTF is a series of program or workshops that is based off of the Wolverine Wellness Flower. Each pedal of the flower is representative of a dimension of wellness that is based from the work of Wolverine Wellness. Desserts and Dialogue plays off the intellectual wellness dimension. Historically for first-year and first gen students this workshop is open to any and everybody.This workshop will inform how dialogue \, discussion\, and debate differ. Also how communicating across differences can sometimes be hard and uncomfortable. Participants will also start to develop communication tools on how to navigate the social climate when it comes to difficult discussions. You will explore how your identities can impact how you engage with others and how all this involves your intellectual development and wellness. Join speakers from Trotter Multicultural Center and The Program on Intergroup Relations (IRG). All types of desserts will be provided.

DESCRIPTION:This speaker series is designed to encourage the campus community to think – and talk with one another – about what it means to develop an informed opinion and stand your ground when challenged\; *and* about changing your mind in light of new evidence\, different perspectives\, and serious reflection. We want to make the case that open inquiry and the thoughtful exchange of ideas is not only or primarily about left-right debates and shouting matches. It can expand what you know (and how you know it)\, change your mind when warranted\, and help cultivate the courage of your convictions when necessary.\n\nGlenn C. Loury is the Merton P. Stoltz Professor of the Social Sciences\, Emeritus\, at Brown University\, and the inaugural speaker in the series. As a public intellectual\, writing mainly on the themes of racial inequality and social policy\, he has published hundreds of essays and reviews in journals of public affairs in the U.S. and abroad. \n\nHe is also host of The Glenn Show\, a popular podcast and newsletter. His most recent book *Self-Censorship* provides a provocative analysis of the powerful social forces that can inhibit our willingness to voice unpopular opinions. DESCRIPTION:In the heart of a forest of sound\, Canadian artist Émilie Monnet and Colombian artist Waira Nina deliver a poetic manifesto inspired by the bonds of friendship and solidarity.\n\nNigamon / Tunai (the words translate to “song” in the Anishinaabemowin and Inga languages) is an immersive performance ritual rooted in the presence of the natural world and co-exists with the audience\, who are in close proximity to the performers on the Power Center stage.\n\nAt the crossroads of friendship and resistance\, the two women invite us to listen deeply and to understand the knowledge and struggles that link their respective cultures: the depletion and plundering of natural resources that are core to their existence.\n\nInterweaving immersive performance and audio documentary with Indigenous knowledge and voices\, this mesmerizing new theatrical work invites audiences into ritualized listening\, and to feel the sound vibrations emitted by the surrounding water\, stones\, copper\, and tree trunks. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a guest artist recital featuring John Hagstrom\, the Bleck Family Chair of Trumpet for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (CSO). He will be accompanied by Liz Ames\, piano.\n\nGUEST ARTIST BIO\n\nJOHN HAGSTROM joined the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s trumpet section as fourth trumpet in 1996. A year later\, he won the Orchestra’s second trumpet position\, carrying on the tradition of brass section teamwork for which the CSO is famous. Previously\, he was principal trumpet of the Wichita Symphony Orchestra in Kansas and served as assistant professor of trumpet at Wichita State University.\n\nHagstrom is the host of *Intermission* at the CSO\, a podcast produced by the CSOA showcasing the voices of numerous CSO musicians through individual features or within topical episodes that discuss the dedication of the CSO to its mission and to its listeners. Originally conceived as a way for CSO supporters and students to stay connected to the Orchestra during the COVID-19 pandemic\, it additionally features selected moments of many of the CSO’s recordings.\n\nHagstrom is passionate in his support of music education\, and in 2006 helped to initiate *Dream Out Loud*\, a music-education advocacy partnership between the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Association and the Yamaha Corporation of America. Through that initiative\, he developed a variety of resources for elementary through high school students\, their teachers and parents\, designed to support students’ music education and provide encouragement through times of challenge.\n\nA native Chicagoan\, Hagstrom grew up listening to the CSO. He studied at the Eastman School of Music and for six years was a member of “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band in Washington\, D.C.\, where he spent three of those years as principal trumpet.

And she does it again and again\,” while The Tennessean asserted\, “one of the sharpest pens in modern country and folk songwriting.” \n\nIn addition to her career as a solo artist\, McKenna continues to enjoy success as one of the music industry’s most in-demand songwriters. In 2023\, she was nominated for a Grammy for Best Country Song for co-writing “I Bet You Think About Me (Taylor’s Version) (From the Vault)\,” performed by Taylor Swift. In 2017\, McKenna became the first woman to win the Academy of Country Music’s Songwriter of the Year award and the first woman to win the Country Music Association’s Song of the Year award two years in a row.
