SUMMARY:Exhibition:2025 Second Year Studio Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:August 18 - October 24\, 2025Exhibition Reception: September 11\, 3-5 p.m.\n\"In their second year\, Stamps students complete a major milestone: Second Year Studio (SYS). It’s a course where\, per the syllabus\, students 'develop the capacity to work independently by identifying\, exploring\, and pursuing a single independent project that involves multiple iterations.' Each student takes their own path\, encountering questions that can shape the direction of their creative practice—how do I manage my time? How much constraint vs. freedom do I thrive on? What subject matter do I care about most deeply? How do my ideas about my future goals intersect with the work I want to make now? At the end of the semester\, students formally report on their experience in a presentation called the Sophomore Review\, and a faculty panel offers individualized feedback. \nUntil now\, the classroom studios and review rooms have been the only place to catch a glimpse of the art and design work resulting from this pivotal course. Last year\, Associate Dean for Academic Programs Rebecca Strzelec proposed something new: an exhibition installed throughout the Art &amp\; Architecture Building during the summer that would celebrate Second Year Studio work and help to welcome the community back in the Fall. This inaugural 2025 Second Year Studio Exhibition showcases our rising third-years and transfer students\, and invites first-years and other newcomers to explore both the building\, and the creative possibilities ahead. The show features 44 students who have volunteered to participate\, yet it honors every Stamps major who reaches the SYS milestone. \nThe pieces on view span a wide array of media and capture a specific moment in each maker’s path—experiments in previously unfamiliar methods\, emergent passions\, creative risks taken\, iterations and reiterations\, and the seeds of so much future work.\"\n- Sally Clegg\, Lecturer and Student Exhibitions Coordinator\nExhibiting Artists and Designers\n\nRobin Beaney\nAdi Behar\nDavid Byun\nZoë Corley\nChloe Dennis\nViktoriya Finyak\nMaria Elena García-Murguía\nElisa Gasser\nOlivia Glynn\nRoe Halbert\nNadav Havilio\nDee Holmes\nRuby Hough\nUrvi Joshi\nEunice Kim\nHannah Kryzhan\nBen Levitsky\nJoyce Liu\nKatelyn Ma\nAlexandria Mainor\nErin Malone\nSummer Mansi\nCheyenne Moore\nElla Moxon\nShafiq Muqit\nAlex Nguyen\nAnna Noh\nLeanna Mokihana Paik\nEva Park\nMichelle Peng\nEliana Pettigrew\nZainab Rahmani\nOlivia Reed\nSky Roberts\nZachary Sebestyen\nOliver Lee St Cyr\nSophie Stillwagon\nVeronica Weinberg\nCaitlin Weingarden\nNala Arielle White\nAriel Williams\nSilas Williams\nKatherine Xu\nJoy Yang\n

SUMMARY:Exhibition:Consequence - Group Art Exhibition - Art as Environmental Activism
DESCRIPTION:This group exhibition is an in-depth exploration of the role of art as a powerful catalyst for environmental activism. At first glance\, these works each possess striking beauty. However\, a closer inspection reveals a profound and often unsettling depth that challenges one’s perceptions. \n\nThe artworks are imbued with many layers of meaning\, inviting us to engage critically with the themes presented and encouraging us to reflect on our often-fraught relationship with the natural world. Through a variety of mediums and techniques\, these works prompt us to confront uncomfortable truths about climate change\, habitat loss\, and the disappearing biodiversity around us. \n\nCampbell’s captivating “Heatscape” series transforms what is often an intangible concept into the tangible realm by visually translating heat distribution data to depict the impact of urban design on climate. This series offers a profound exploration of the intriguing phenomenon known as \"urban heat islands”\, a term that describes urban areas that absorb and radiate significantly more heat than their surrounding rural landscapes due to human activities and infrastructure.\n\n“Heatscape” invites us to engage in a deeper reflection about the profound impact that human ingenuity has wielded over the natural world\, serving as a visual reminder of our responsibility to urban design that is considerate to the environment and communities it impacts. This work challenges us to recognize the interplay between our lifestyles and the environment\, urging a dialogue about sustainable practices that could mitigate the effects of these heat islands.\n\nSnider’s work powerfully illustrates the remnants of industrialization\, capturing the unsettling essence of its aftermath. In his art\, we encounter an urban landscape that is strikingly devoid of human presence\, creating an almost haunting atmosphere. This absence of people amplifies the eerie feeling and serves as a warning about the enduring consequences of industrial progress. It prompts viewers to reflect on the environmental impact and the transformations that society has undergone\, urging us to consider what aspects of our world will persist in the wake of such change. Ultimately\, Snider’s poignant depictions challenge us to confront the stark reality of a landscape altered by human activity\, inviting contemplation on both the beauty and the desolation that can coexist in our modern environments.\n\nSandra Osip’s sculptures delve deeply into the juxtaposition of decay and destruction alongside the concepts of life and growth. Through her abstract structures\, she illustrates the profound effects climate change has on our urban landscapes and the planet as a whole. These pieces serve as a poignant reminder of the delicate balance between nature and human impact\, while Osip’s imaginative flowers evoke a sense of nostalgia and loss\, symbolizing the beauty of what has been irretrievably diminished in our world. By celebrating these natural forms\, she not only honors the richness of biodiversity but also raises awareness about the environmental crisis we face.\n\nCassells’ work not only celebrates a profound connection to nature and sustainable practices but also serves to illuminate the significant impact that climate change has on vulnerable communities. Through her art\, she investigates the intricate relationships between different environmental systems\, emphasizing how they are all interconnected. \n\nBy delving into these themes\, Cassells sheds light on the challenges faced by communities that often bear the brunt of climate change despite contributing the least to the problem. Her exploration encourages a deeper understanding of how environmental changes affect social structures and the lives of people in marginalized areas. In doing so\, she advocates for greater awareness and action to address these issues\, ultimately promoting a more sustainable and equitable future for all. \n\nShanna Merola’s photo-collages are informed by the stories of environmental justice struggles past and present. Shanna Merola and Halima Afi Cassells collaborated on collage and interactive installations for over five years. Researching\, wandering\, photographing\, and creating together while interrogating the interconnectedness of environmental degradation\, and global corporatism\, and community response.\n\nSobel takes a more straightforward approach by helping us begin to grasp the reality of living in a world affected by climate change. Her work described as “wilderness-based\, science-inspired”\, serves as a bridge\, connecting viewers to experiences that might seem too distant or unfolding too slowly for most people to comprehend firsthand. In doing so\, she not only raises awareness but also encourages dialogue about the pressing challenges our planet faces. Through her work\, Sobel facilitates a deeper understanding of the interconnection between humanity and the environment\, compelling us to reflect on our role in addressing these urgent issues.\n\nThese diverse approaches to creating art serve as powerful connections to the most critical and pressing environmental issues of our time. This engagement serves to deepen our understanding of these challenges from multiple perspectives\, including cultural\, social\, and scientific viewpoints. \nFurthermore\, these approaches are not only meant to inform but also to inspire. They challenge us to reconsider our relationship with the planet and encourage us to take actionable steps toward sustainability.

SUMMARY:Exhibition:Brothers and Uncles\, Kings and Typecutters
DESCRIPTION:Explore the evolution of the printed page through the prism of one remarkable family of scholar-printers. \n\nPrinting changed the speed and scale at which information circulated. Over a century\, scholarly printers competed to produce carefully edited editions. As they produced more and more\, they developed methods\, such as page-layout and indices\, to make their books easy to read\, and they created dictionaries and reference books so a reader could get more from their books.\n\nThe Estienne family of printers are among the most renowned and long-lasting printing houses of the era. Family links and investment in scholarly training helped them to sustain a business in the print trade for six generations in France and Switzerland.\n\nThe Special Collections Research Center holds nearly 80 imprints dating from the first years of the sixteenth century into the reign of Louis XIV. View nineteen examples chosen to show the breadth of the Michigan Estienne collection in an era of amazing change.\n\nImage: Detail from \"Polemōnos\, Himeriou\, kai allōn tinōn meletai\,\" by Henri Estienne\, Paris 1567. The Olive tree device is the best-known emblem of the Estienne house\, surviving in over a dozen forms. First used by Robert I in 1526\, it refers to a passage in Romans 11 that praises humility in the face of divine will.

SUMMARY:Exhibition:Cathy Barry Art Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Cathy Barry has a profound connection to the natural world\, which has shaped her artistic journey. She focuses on expressing gratitude\, compassion\, and a sense of responsibility towards environmental protection. After years of working with traditional media such as oil\, acrylic\, and watercolor\, her art is transitioning to more sustainable materials. The pigments she uses in her collages are sourced entirely from plants\, all collected and processed by Cathy herself from various locations throughout Michigan. This natural paint has become a vital part of her expressive palette\, driving her to approach her work with a renewed sense of integrity and awareness of our interconnected ecosystem.\n\nIn her collages\, Cathy skillfully combines paper painted with her homemade botanical pigments and intricately punched shapes\, creating a distinctive micro-scale vocabulary. These miniature worlds are thoughtfully assembled within larger contexts\, challenging our perceptions of the universe and our place within it.\n\nRecently\, Cathy has embarked on a new adventure: creating art directly from plant materials. By collecting\, drying\, and weaving leaves\, she has developed an exciting rhythm in her process. Through simple weaving\, twining\, and basketry techniques\, she has deepened her enthusiasm for and connection to the plants surrounding her in her yard and neighborhood. This integration of materials with form and subject in her work evokes a serene wholeness that reflects nature's inherent wisdom. Additionally\, her journey has sparked a curiosity to explore the historical uses and roles of plants throughout history.\n\nCathy Barry is an artist and instructor living and working in Ann Arbor\, Mi. She is a Lecturer in the University of Michigan (UM) Stamps School of Art and Design\, the UM Program in the Environment and the UM Biological Station.

SUMMARY:Exhibition:ICE in the Heartland: Community Impacts of Worksite Immigration Raids
DESCRIPTION:ICE in the Heartland showcases a multifaceted project that gathers and disseminates the stories of communities impacted by immigration worksite raids with the aim of bringing underrepresented narratives to news media\, classroom\, and public discourse. This project comprises qualitative public health research conducted in impacted communities and visual arts generated from the research outcomes. Research teams of graduate and undergraduate students from the University of Michigan\, led by Professor William Lopez\, and the University of Iowa\, led by Professor Nicole Novak\, collaborated with a range of community members and organizers at sites of six large-scale immigration worksite raids that occurred in 2018 in Iowa\, Nebraska\, Ohio\, Tennessee\, and Texas. The researchers visited these sites\, spoke to advocates\, detainees\, their families\, and other community members. In conversation with the seventy-seven interviews\, artists Dalia Harris and Carolina Jones Ortiz generated ten images that comprise ICE in the Heartland. On display with the artworks are community member testimonies\, analysis on the public health detriments to immigration worksite raids and deportation\, insights to the artists’ methods\, and the curricular materials used in public outreach programs. \n\nHosted and sponsored by the Institute for Research on Women and Gender and the Department of Women’s and Gender Studies\, U-M.

SUMMARY:Lecture / Discussion:Systems of Secrecy: Journalism\, Power and the Policy Gaps that Enable Corruption
DESCRIPTION:From the Panama Papers to China Targets\, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Gerard Ryle has overseen investigations that exposed how the powerful exploit opaque systems across borders — from tax havens and shell companies to international law enforcement mechanisms.\n\nRyle is one of the most influential investigative journalists working today. As executive director of the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists\, he has led the largest reporting collaborations in history\, producing work that has toppled heads of state\, sparked criminal probes and spurred legislative reforms around the world. A former University of Michigan Knight-Wallace fellow\, he brings deep experience at the intersection of accountability journalism\, power and systemic failures that enable cross-border corruption.\n\nThis talk examines what global investigative journalism reveals about the limits of public policy and regulation when laws fall short\, enforcement fails and bad actors innovate faster than the systems meant to stop them.\n\n \n\nSpeaker Bios:\n\nGerard Ryle is executive director of the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists. He led the worldwide teams of journalists working on the Panama Papers\, Paradise Papers and Pandora Papers investigations\, the biggest in journalism history. Under his leadership\, ICIJ has become one of the best-known journalism brands in the world.\n\nReporters Without Borders has described Ryle’s work with ICIJ as \"the future of investigative journalism worldwide\" when naming him as one of \"100 information heroes\" of worldwide significance.\n\nBefore joining as ICIJ’s first non-American director in September 2011\, Ryle spent more than 20 years working as an investigative reporter and editor in Australia. His work as a journalist began in his native Ireland. He was later a Knight-Wallace Journalism Fellow at the University of Michigan\, and in 2013 he accepted an honorary doctorate from the University of Liege\, on behalf of ICIJ.\n\nAmbassador Susan D. Page is a professor of practice in international diplomacy at the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy and a professor from practice at the University of Michigan Law School. She has deep expertise in international relations\, particularly in Africa. Her senior level roles have included Assistant Secretary General/Special Adviser on Rule of Law\, Global Focal Point Review Implementation\, Special Representative of the Secretary General (SRSG) to the United Nations Mission for Justice Support to Haiti (MINUJUSTH)\, first U.S. Ambassador to newly independent South Sudan\, U.S. Chargé d’Affaires to the African Union\, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs\, key adviser to the peace process that resolved Africa’s longest-running civil war through international mediation\, head of rule of law programs for the UN\, and a foreign service regional legal advisor and political officer in East\, Central\, and Southern Africa.

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:HEP-Astro Seminar | Spin detection and nuclear magnetic resonance at the quantum sensitivity limit
DESCRIPTION:Quantum science tools have been pivotal in various precision experiments\, such as gravitational wave detectors\, atomic clocks\, and searches for new fundamental physics and axion dark matter. In experiments with ensembles of spin qubits\, the standard quantum limit on sensitivity scales with the inverse square root of the number of spins. Platforms such as cold atoms\, atomic vapor cells\, and color centers in solids can operate in the regime where this spin projection noise dominates detection of ensemble dynamics. Increasing ensemble size is a promising way to enhance sensitivity. The challenge is that this requires a corresponding reduction in other noise sources. I will present precision nuclear magnetic resonance measurements on macroscopic ensembles of 10^{21} nuclear spins\, with sensitivity limited by the quantum spin projection noise. Additionally\, I will discuss the creation and utilization of spin squeezing in such macroscopic spin ensembles.

DESCRIPTION:Melissa Sturge-Apple of the University of Rochester joins the RCGD Seminar Series on the Science of Social Relationships.\n\nOver decades\, parenting researchers have successfully conceptualized and empirically documented the various forms of caregiving along with their etiological roots and implications for child development outcomes.  However\, much of this work has relied on top-down approaches that define and distinguish socialization and caregiving constructs based largely or solely on their physical form\, and by extension\, primarily categorizing parenting into ‘positive’ and ‘negative’ behavioral dichotomies. The result of this is a lack of precision or specificity in determinants and sequelae. As a field\, we have still not successfully addressed limitations identified 20 years ago by Collins (2005): “Perhaps most important for future research\, the present framework is a timely reminder of the importance of moving beyond global associations toward divergent predictions\, thus avoiding the frequent\, but only somewhat informative\, conclusion that good things go together and bad things go together (p. 144).” Behavioral systems models can address this gap by more precisely identifying parental socialization goals and the behavioral strategies for achieving those goals within specific child-rearing contexts.  This talk will present how “form (what it looks like)” and “function (what it is designed to do)” in behavioral systems conceptualizations of caregiving can provide greater specificity in parenting behaviors with children. Moreover\, the talk will discuss observational approaches to assessing different caregiving domains\, mothers' and fathers' caregiving\, and the pitfalls and promises of this approach.\n\nAbout the series:\n\nHumans are social animals and from the earliest days of life\, are dependent on the quality of social relationships with significant others: family\, kin\, friends\, and a growing social network of online acquaintances. But\, how do we conduct research and come to understand the social processes transpiring in these significant social connections with others? What are the consequences for individual development and mental health outcomes of having close intimate relationships in one’s life? There is also a darker side to some relationships in the form of violence\, aggression\, and conflict. How do we study these processes? Social media and artificial intelligence have opened up new ways of thinking about “what is a social relationship?” and how many of these “friends” can one truly have. \n\nThe speakers for this series will focus on different types of social relationships\, spanning family and parent-child relationships\, friendships\, peer networks\, romantic relationships\, attachment relationships\, and the use of online media to maintain social connections. Although several speakers are senior scholars with extensive research backgrounds in the field\, many are junior scholars who are traversing new paths into the science of social relationships. Please join us Mondays to learn more about the exciting field of social relationships!\n\nThese events are held Mondays from 3:30 to 5.\nIn person: ISR Thompson 1430\, unless otherwise specified.\nOrganized by Brenda Volling and Richard Gonzalez.\nAs permissions allow\, seminars are later posted to our YouTube playlist.

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:GLNT: Tetrahedral Symbol and Relative Langlands Duality
DESCRIPTION:Abstract:\n\nIn the quantum theory of angular momentum\, the Racah--Wigner coefficient\, often known as the 6-j symbol\, is a numerical invariant assigned to a tetrahedron with half-integer edge-lengths. The 6 edge-lengths may be viewed as representations of SU(2) satisfying certain multiplicity-one conditions. One important property of the 6j symbol is its hidden symmetry outside the tetrahedral ones\, originally discovered by Regge.\n\nIn this talk\, we explore a generalized construction\, dubbed tetrahedral symbol\, in the context of rank-1 semisimple groups over local fields\, and explain how the extra symmetries may be explained by relative Langlands duality. Joint work with Akshay Venkatesh.

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:Rethinking how we teach organic chemistry: Innovations afforded by universal design
DESCRIPTION:Using sign language to convey a concept or describe a transition state is a powerful way for students to think about the electron pushing formalisms we write on paper and recognize mechanistic trends. Using our hands as models transforms the two-dimensional static framework of writing symbolic drawings on our page into 3-D opportunities for students to conceptualize a molecule or even a transition state. The Sign Language Incorporation in Chemistry Education (SLICE) project was initiated by a group of faculty and Deaf/Hard of Hearing (D/HH) students at the Rochester Institute of Technology to address the language vacuum of STEM signs in organic chemistry. The result of our work has had a positive impact on the classroom culture and performance gains of D/HH students taking the organic chemistry courses. Now\, efforts have begun to address STEM signs in general chemistry and biochemistry. Our studies are also now exploring the impact of universal design across all students in the organic chemistry curriculum.

SUMMARY:Meeting:Student Combinatorics: Discrete Complex Analysis: T-holomorphic Functions
DESCRIPTION:Discrete complex analysis is a useful tool for analyzing limits of fluctuations of centered height functions. After describing this motivation in the context of random tilings of regions\, we will introduce discrete holomorphic functions on a square lattice via a natural construction\, and then generalize this by defining t-holomorphic functions on a triangular lattice. Time permitting\, we will discuss how to define t-holomorphic functions on non-triangular lattices.

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:Tax Preferential Treatment of Residential Housing and Migration
DESCRIPTION:This paper evaluates how household location decisions are impacted by federal deductions of location-specific costs\, including state and local taxes and mortgage interest. When these expenses are tax deductible\, they reduce the after-tax cost differential in house prices and taxes across states and metropolitan areas. The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 (TCJA) reduced the benefits of these deductions by increasing the standard deduction and capping state and local tax deductions at $10\,000. Using a difference-in-differences methodology that exploits variation in exposure to the TCJA and a panel of household residences\, I find that the reduction in deduction benefits increased the probability of high-income households moving to a different metropolitan area. Conditional on moving\, these households sought out lower-tax destinations.

SUMMARY:Lecture / Discussion:Shifting Roots: Hair is the Garden We Wear
DESCRIPTION:Detroit barber and artist Tzu Poré talks with writer Kahn Santori Davison about Poré's project Shifting Roots. The project fuses symbolic hair design\, ritual healing\, and fine art into one unified ecosystem of transformation. Through intentional grooming\, visual storytelling\, and community activation\, this initiative presents identity as terrain—where hair becomes soil\, and fine art becomes the bloom. Poré will share how his cultural roots shape his work in the garden\, on canvas\, and as a trained barber/cultural griot.\n\nAbout Tzu Poré:\nEducated in the early '90s at College for Creative Studies in Detroit\, Michigan\, Tzu Poré is an award-winning interdisciplinary artist whose work explores the themes of Black Afro-Caribbean Americana humanity\, historical socio-economic position\, and ancient tradition in the modern world\, richly informed by strong community-family bonds.\n\nWith West Indian origins and a Pan-African world view\, Poré\, in 1997\, enlisted in the US Army. While serving as an aviation mechanic\, Poré honed a deeper understanding of methods and processes of fusing materials such as minerals and solids that he has since used to increase the physical texture and visual depth in his paintings.\n\nShortly after being discharged in 2001\, he embarked on an exploration of hair as an artistic medium of texture and sculpture\, both on and off the canvas\, while moonlighting as a barber in three major African-American markets—Detroit\, Philadelphia\, and Los Angeles.\n\nWith nearly three decades of travel and experience\, Poré reemerges with new work that culminates in the perfect union of interdisciplinary artistry and a vividly dynamic multinational skillset. Poré's continued evolution as an artist allows him to boldly express with the unconventional creative range of mediums and processes that he uses to confront the challenge of affecting depth within two-dimensional art.\n\nAbout Kahn Santori Davison\nKahn Santori Davison\, based in Detroit\, is a music writer for *The Metro Times*. He was formerly an art columnist for *The Gazette News *and an Arts and Entertainment writer for *The Michigan Citizen*. He has served as a creative writing instructor at Detroit Impact Community Center and InsideOut Literary Arts Project. He was one half of the poetry group Khaos and co-star in the award-winning play Mahogany Dreams. He’s a Cave Canem fellow whose work has been featured in *The Alabama Poetry Society*\, *The Entoitist*\, *The Baltimore Review*\, *London’s X-Bout*\, *Barbaric Yap*\, *Callaloo*\, *Black Reniaissance Noire*\, and *The Litchfield Review*. He has read and lectured widely in Europe and the United States.\n\nDavison served as a 2023 Kresge Eminent Artist panelist\, and a 2017 Kresge Artist Fellowship panelist in Literary Arts.

SUMMARY:Livestream / Virtual:The Gridiron Gospel
DESCRIPTION:Historian Hunter M. Hampton of Stephen F. Austin State University presents a history of how\, from the game's early days\, college football and a strain of masculine Christianity built a mutually reinforcing culture that taught lessons in America's dominant religious\, gendered\, and racial belief systems. He examines how Christians of many denominations embraced the game to shape their faith to meet changing social demands\, seeking spiritual and personal meaning on the gridiron. Fans watched the action to find God's lessons for them\, wins and losses expressing divine will while the game's popularity offered potent ways to evangelize non-believers. The sport also provided a stage for fostering Christian manhood\, male community\, gender dominance\, and on-the-field heroic displays serving a higher purpose. Dr. Hunter will give a free online live lecture Monday\, October 20\, 7-8:30 PM via a Zoom webinar. Register at tinyurl.com/GridironGospel. The video will be simultaneously presented on FaceBook and Youtube.

SUMMARY:Performance:Seth Walker
DESCRIPTION:“Walker's sweet tenor carries an edge of pain\, as well as affection for blue notes.” - NPR Music\n\nAmong the most prolific artists on the Americana scene today\, Seth Walker is a multi-dimensional talent who combines a gift for melody and lyric alongside a rich\, Gospel-drenched\, Southern-inflected voice with a true blue knack for getting around on the guitar. With his 12th studio album Why The Worry\, Walker further builds upon this reputation. \n\nSet straight by the title’s mantra\, Why The Worry finds the veteran singer-songwriter letting go of the worry about perception\, the worry of over-preparation\, and the worry that seeps in constantly from the news and noise of everyday life. Taking a page from Willie Nelson\, Walker embraced the country music legend's sage wisdom\, “I’ve never seen worry accomplish anything\, so I decided not to do it.” Indeed\, the album was just about finished when Hurricane Helene hit Walker where he lives in the mountains around Asheville\, and as a result\, the record almost didn’t see light. As catastrophe took shape\, the album’s importance wavered in his mind until the central theme came back into view. The worry wouldn’t undo any damage\, and there was still service in song. \n\nGrowing up on a commune in rural North Carolina\, the son of classically trained musicians\, Walker played cello long before discovering the guitar in his 20s. When his introduction to the blues came via his Uncle Landon Walker\, who was both a musician and disc jockey\, his fate was forever sealed. Instantaneously\, Seth was looking to artists like T-Bone Walker\, Snooks Eaglin\, and B.B. King as a wellspring of endless inspiration. The rest is history. He's released twelve albums\, broken into the Top 20 of the Americana Radio Charts\, reached No. 2 on the Billboard Blues Album Chart and received praise from NPR\, American Songwriter\, No Depression and Relix\, among others. \n\nAlongside his extensive songwriting and recording pursuits\, Walker is consistently touring and performing at venues and festivals around the world. Along with headline shows\, he's been invited to open for The Mavericks\, Marc Broussard\, The Wood Brothers\, Raul Malo\, Paul Thorn and Ruthie Foster\, among others. \n\nPrior to relocating to Asheville in 2020\, Walker did stints residing in Austin\, New Orleans and Nashville. He’s used those experiences wisely\, soaking up the sounds and absorbing the musical lineage of these varied places. With a bluesman’s respect for roots and tradition\, coupled with an appreciation for—and successful melding of—contemporary songwriting\, Walker sublimely incorporates a range of styles with warmth and grace. Perhaps Country Standard Time said it best: “If you subscribe to the Big Tent theory of Americana\, then Seth Walker—with his blend of blues\, gospel\, pop\, R&B\, rock\, and a dash country—just might be your poster boy.”
