Researching\, wandering\, photographing\, and creating together while interrogating the interconnectedness of environmental degradation\, and global corporatism\, and community response.\n\nSobel takes a more straightforward approach by helping us begin to grasp the reality of living in a world affected by climate change. Her work described as “wilderness-based\, science-inspired”\, serves as a bridge\, connecting viewers to experiences that might seem too distant or unfolding too slowly for most people to comprehend firsthand. In doing so\, she not only raises awareness but also encourages dialogue about the pressing challenges our planet faces. Through her work\, Sobel facilitates a deeper understanding of the interconnection between humanity and the environment\, compelling us to reflect on our role in addressing these urgent issues.\n\nThese diverse approaches to creating art serve as powerful connections to the most critical and pressing environmental issues of our time. Over a century\, scholarly printers competed to produce carefully edited editions. As they produced more and more\, they developed methods\, such as page-layout and indices\, to make their books easy to read\, and they created dictionaries and reference books so a reader could get more from their books.\n\nThe Estienne family of printers are among the most renowned and long-lasting printing houses of the era. Family links and investment in scholarly training helped them to sustain a business in the print trade for six generations in France and Switzerland.\n\nThe Special Collections Research Center holds nearly 80 imprints dating from the first years of the sixteenth century into the reign of Louis XIV. This project comprises qualitative public health research conducted in impacted communities and visual arts generated from the research outcomes. Research teams of graduate and undergraduate students from the University of Michigan\, led by Professor William Lopez\, and the University of Iowa\, led by Professor Nicole Novak\, collaborated with a range of community members and organizers at sites of six large-scale immigration worksite raids that occurred in 2018 in Iowa\, Nebraska\, Ohio\, Tennessee\, and Texas. The researchers visited these sites\, spoke to advocates\, detainees\, their families\, and other community members. In conversation with the seventy-seven interviews\, artists Dalia Harris and Carolina Jones Ortiz generated ten images that comprise ICE in the Heartland. This mystery exists in both online dating contexts and offline first dates. \n\nIn this talk\, Tatum Jolink presents a new theoretical framework for conceptualizing initial romantic interactions (i.e.\, online matches\, first dates). Specifically\, she draws upon the biopsychosocial model of challenge and threat and propose that we may be able to progress the science of compatibility by considering early dating interactions as motivated performance situations. Based on the BPS model\, she theorizse that when a dater’s available resources meet or exceed situational demands (i.e.\, challenge response) that might enhance perceived compatibility with a potential partner during an initial romantic interaction. \n\nThis talk presents preliminary data from three studies that test the framework’s core ideas. First\, in two online correlational samples\, 340 participants retrospectively recalled a recent first date experience\; Jolink examines the association between recalled appraisals of demands and resources ahead of this first date and reported performance and perceived compatibility after the date. Then\, Jolink rigorously and robustly tests this framework in the real world\, using a dating app\, Revel\, built by relationship scientists for research purposes. In the first nine months of pilot testing\, almost 1\,000 participants made over 61\,000 swipe decisions\, which lead to over 850 matches and more than 11\,000 messages. Ahead of joining Revel\, participants reported their dating resources (i.e.\, confidence) and demands (i.e.\, perceived effort).\n\nJolink tests the hypothesis that those with challenge responses (resources>demands) will be more engaged and have greater dating success on Revel than those with threat responses (resources 0.
