SUMMARY:Exhibition:2026 Second Year Studio Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:\n\nAugust 24 - October 18\, 2026\nExhibition Reception: October 1\, 1-2:30 p.m.\n\nIn their second year\, Stamps students complete a major milestone: Second Year Studio (SYS). It’s a course where\, per the syllabus\, students \"develop the capacity to work independently by identifying\, exploring\, and pursuing a single independent project that involves multiple iterations.\" Each student takes their own path\, encountering questions that can shape the direction of their creative practice. At the end of the semester\, students formally report on their experience in a presentation called the Sophomore Review and receive direct feedback from a panel of Stamps faculty members. \n\nInstalled throughout the Art & Architecture Building\, the Second Year Studio Exhibition showcases the art and design work created in this pivotal course by our rising third-year and transfer students\, and invites first-year students and other newcomers to explore both the building and the creative possibilities ahead. The show features 50 students who have volunteered to participate\, yet it honors every Stamps major who reaches the SYS milestone. \n\nThe works in this year’s exhibition engage a wide range of questions and concerns. Students investigate memory\, identity\, materiality\, ecology\, technology\, labor\, social relationships\, and the built environment through equally diverse formal approaches. While these subjects recur across the exhibition\, what stands out most is not a dominant thematic direction\, but a shared commitment to sustained inquiry.\n\n–Sally Clegg\, Lecturer & Student Exhibitions Coordinator & Pedram Baldari\, Assistant Professor\n\nExhibiting Artists and Designers\n<ul class=\"twocol\">\n\nNailah Aguilar\n\nAkylah Archer\n\nZachary Berenbaum\n\nSamantha Blaine\n\nLauren Boyce\n\nKas Brajkovic\n\nAnna Browne\n\nLilah Chow\n\nIsabella Cortes\n\nMagdalena Dimovski\n\nLeah Elliott\n\nAya Fadlelzebair\n\nM. SUMMARY:Exhibition:Muted Volumes: Book-Objects\, Patterned Papers\, and the Closed Stacks of Buhr
DESCRIPTION:This exhibit in the Clark Library rotunda focuses on handmade decorative patterned papers when exploring books stored at the library's Buhr Offsite Shelving Facility. Decorative paper\, noticed when walking through the stack's aisles or surprising you when you casually flip through a book\, can really catch your eye. But because the Buhr stacks are closed from browsing\, the density and dimensionality of its nearly 3 million books are reduced to title searches on a screen.\n\nAs a response to these reflections\, artist and library staff member Stephanie Osorio shares her handbound unopenable book-objects as symbolic stand-ins for forgotten books at Buhr — the books that don’t get a chance to be noticed. Along with the book-objects are the carved woodblocks that made prints to decorate them. Some books from Buhr that inspired this project with their original decorated patterned papers will also be on display.\n\nView the exhibit anytime the Hatcher Library is open\, and join us for an opening reception on Thursday\, May 14th\, 5pm - 6:30pm\, for an opportunity to hear from the artist and engage with the book-objects.

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:HEP-Astro Seminar | Boosting the Higgs Boson to infini(τ)y and (b)eyond
DESCRIPTION:Since discovery of the Higgs Boson in 2012\, a key component of the physics program at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) has been to further characterize the properties of this new particle. Incredible progress has been made to parametrize the role of the Higgs boson within the SM\, establishing increasingly precise measurements of its properties and couplings\, across its various decay channels. Such precision measurements simultaneously play an important role in probing for new beyond the Standard Model (BSM) physics involving the Higgs Boson\, particularly in extreme phase-spaces\, such as at high transverse momentum (pT). Characterization of the Higgs Boson at high-pT remains largely unexplored\; in particular due to decreasing production cross-sections and unique reconstruction challenges associated with this topology. This seminar presents two new ATLAS measurements of Higgs Boson production in the high-pT regime in the H->bb and H->ττ decay channels. Central to these measurements was the leveraging of advanced Machine Learning algorithms to augment the performance of reconstruction and identification algorithms of the Higgs Boson. Both results establish evidence for the production of Higgs Bosons in this high-pT regime\; and provide an important precision benchmark in expanding the characterization of the Higgs Boson.

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:Research Leadership in a Global Context Certificate Program Information Session
DESCRIPTION:Rackham Graduate School is excited to announce a new opportunity to gain practical skills for engaging across differences within our research and professional communities\, including real-world examples from U-M alumni.\n\nThe Research Leadership in a Global Context certificate program is an eight-week professional development program that prepares graduate students and postdoctoral scholars to lead research with clarity\, confidence\, and cultural awareness. Designed for scholars working in increasingly global\, interdisciplinary\, and collaborative environments\, the program integrates leadership development\, intercultural understanding\, project management\, and ethical research practices.\n\nParticipants build concrete skills for leading teams\, navigating complex research settings\, and preparing for diverse career paths within and beyond academia. By pairing weekly workshops with peer feedback groups and individualized feedback through the Cultural Intelligence (CQ) framework and the Michigan Model of Leadership (MMoL)\, the certificate creates a supportive environment for reflection\, growth\, and practical skill-building.\n\nLearning Objectives:\n\nLeadership: Cultivate the ability to lead research with effective communication and strategic decision-making.\n\nCareer Management: Develop personalized career strategies as graduate scholars to prepare for professional paths both within and beyond academia.\n\nSocial Responsibility: Build knowledge and critical thinking skills to address local\, national\, and global challenges in research and professional environments.\n\nIntercultural Understanding: Enhance cross-cultural collaboration skills by understanding and respecting cultural differences in your scholarship\, including research\, teaching\, and service.\n\nEngaging Across Differences: Foster research environments that recognize and thoughtfully engage multiple viewpoints.\n\nPlease note: You are required to attend an information session to apply for the Research Leadership in a Global Context certificate program.\n\nReach out to rackhamcert@umich.edu with any questions regarding the certificate. SUMMARY:Performance:The Brudi Brothers
DESCRIPTION:Folk music with a bluesy edge and warm\, interwoven sibling harmonies\n\nThe Brudi Brothers are a dynamic Americana band hailing from Seattle\, Washington. Often recognized as the city's favorite buskers and street poets\, they are known for their raucous performances and distinctive old-world soul that stands out in the world of modern music. They gained rapid popularity worldwide when a live clip of their latest single\, \"Me More Cowboy Than You\,\" went viral\, with over 10 million views cumulatively and quickly rising. Comprising of three brothers\, Johannes\, Conrad\, and George\, the boys have an inimitable musical and performance dynamic replete with wit and humor. They are all multi instrumentalists and have been playing together since they were kids. They have traveled the world together\, their musical commentary drawing from adventures hitchhiking through Europe\, living on sailboats\, and performing for the Queen of The Netherlands to create their unusually hypnotic sound.\n\nListeners who discovered the band via their social media virality have eagerly taken to their 2020 album\, See You Soon. Recorded on a houseboat in Amsterdam with a sound engineer paid in beer and tobacco\, the project encapsulates a thoughtful and intimate slice of life immediately preceding the COVID-19 pandemic. They traverse genres with poignant and vibrant lyrics\, understated instrumentation\, and playful harmonies.\nThe Brudi Brothers have carved out a unique space in the Pacific Northwest music scene and beyond\, pairing familiar beloved influences with blood harmonies and melodies unique to the brothers. With a blend of old school folk\, country\, and rock-and-roll feel\, the band is known for their ability to play to any crowd. Their infectious sound and electrifying chemistry on stage has earned them a loyal fanbase\, who can't get enough of the band's simultaneous earnestness and irreverence.
