        "description":"\n\nAugust 24 - October 18, 2026\nExhibition Reception: October 1, 1-2:30 p.m.\n\nIn their second year, Stamps students complete a major milestone: Second Year Studio (SYS). It\u2019s a course where, per the syllabus, students \"develop the capacity to work independently by identifying, exploring, and pursuing a single independent project that involves multiple iterations.\" Each student takes their own path, encountering questions that can shape the direction of their creative practice. At the end of the semester, students formally report on their experience in a presentation called the Sophomore Review and receive direct feedback from a panel of Stamps faculty members. \n\nInstalled throughout the Art & Architecture Building, the Second Year Studio Exhibition showcases the art and design work created in this pivotal course by our rising third-year and transfer students, and invites first-year students and other newcomers to explore both the building and the creative possibilities ahead. The show features 50 students who have volunteered to participate, yet it honors every Stamps major who reaches the SYS milestone. \n\nThe works in this year\u2019s exhibition engage a wide range of questions and concerns. Students investigate memory, identity, materiality, ecology, technology, labor, social relationships, and the built environment through equally diverse formal approaches.         "description":"There are nearly one million refugees currently living in Poland. While the vast majority arrived from Ukraine, Poland has also welcomed forcibly displaced people from Central Asia, Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East. While refugees may be different, they all search for a place that reminds them of home.\nIn *This Is The Place*, a project supported by the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), Anna Liminowicz asked refugees to show what, in Poland, reminds them of their home. These portraits and the personalized confessions her subjects handwrote in their native languages tell poignant stories about safety and hope.\nAnna Liminowicz is an award-winning photographer and reportage journalist based in Warsaw, Poland. A frequent contributor to the *The New York Times*, *The Guardian*, *The Wall Street Journal*, *The Washington Post*, *El Pais*, *Der Spiegel* and UNHCR, Liminowicz divides her time  between assignments and long-term personal projects, mainly focusing on social issues like identity and loss, and what uplifts her subjects. She has covered the war in Ukraine and Ukrainian refugees in Poland since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion, and received the 2022 Grand Press Photo Award for her project \u201cToo Precious to Leave Behind\u201d.\n\nIf there is anything we can do to make this event accessible to you, please contact us.         "description":"Felix Lembersky (1913-1970) was a painter, theater stage designer, teacher, and leader of artistic groups. He began his career within the Soviet Avant-Garde in Ukraine before studying realist painting in Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg). Throughout his life he worked across realist and modernist styles that fell outside of Soviet-mandated Socialist Realism. His Execution: Babyn Yar series (ca. 1944-52) is the earliest known artistic representation of Babyn Yar, a Holocaust massacre site in Kyiv. For political reasons, these paintings, along with his later nonconformist work, were barred from exhibition in the Soviet Union.\n\nHaving witnessed two world wars, the 1917 revolution, and political terror, Lembersky reflected on these experiences with candor while imbuing his work with hope and optimism. He was drawn to vulnerable, neglected, and marginalized people: children, the elderly, ethnic minorities, and industrial workers subjected to harsh labor and dangerous conditions. Regardless of their circumstances, Lembersky  portrayed his subjects with empathy, dignity, and admiration.  \n\n\u201cFor my father, honesty and integrity meant more than anything else.         "description":"The Institute for the Humanities\u2019 presentation of Cosmo Whyte\u2019s* Ballad for Rodney* (2024) is organized as part of Whyte\u2019s upcoming solo exhibition at the Stamps Gallery entitled *Cosmo Whyte: Under the Quiet, Beyond the Eye*.\n\nThis \u201ccurtain painting\u201d operates simultaneously as painting and sculpture, inviting the viewer to physically engage with the surface, passing through to another layer underneath. Named in reference to Rodney King, the African American man who was a victim of police brutality in LA in 1991, the kinetic artwork intends to bring into question the relationship between the body and the artwork. Through direct engagement with image and materiality, it shifts one\u2019s idea of an archive from a static memory to a lived embodied experience.\n\nAbout the artist\nCosmo Whyte (b. 1982, St. Andrew, Jamaica) is an interdisciplinary artist who employs drawing, installation, and sculpture to create conceptual work exploring interstitial subjectivity through an engagement with both intimate and public archives, as well as Black spatiality and forms of resistance. He received his MFA from the University of Michigan. In 2022, he joined the UCLA School of the Arts and Architecture as an assistant professor.\n\n\nWhyte\u2019s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including at MOCA Georgia, Atlanta, GA; Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, IL; The High Museum of Art, Atlanta, GA; The Drawing Center, New York, NY; Atlanta Contemporary, Atlanta, GA; Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris, France; and the National Gallery of Jamaica, Kingston, Jamaica, among others. Designed for scholars working in increasingly global, interdisciplinary, and collaborative environments, the program integrates leadership development, intercultural understanding, project management, and ethical research practices.\n\nParticipants build concrete skills for leading teams, navigating complex research settings, and preparing for diverse career paths within and beyond academia.         "description":"In this talk, we consider a continuous-time Kyle-Back model which is a game between an insider and a market maker. The existing literature typically focuses on constructing equilibria with a PDE approach, which requires certain Markovian structures. We characterize all equilibria through a coupled system of forward-backward SDEs. In particular, when the time duration is small, we show that the FBSDE is well-posed, and therefore the game has a unique equilibrium. Moreover, this unique equilibrium may be non-Markovian and thus not attainable via the PDE approach. We next study the set value of the game, which roughly speaking is the set of insider's values over all equilibria and thus is by nature unique. Finally, we characterize the set value through a level set of a certain standard HJB equation.\nIn the second part of the talk, we apply the new approach to the Kyle-Back model with dynamic legal risk and large numbers of noise traders. In this setting, the insider chooses a strategy that conceals his identity within a large volume of surrounding trades and concentrates on medium-sized trades.  We establish an intensity-based mathematical framework for explaining the interconnections between insider trading and stealth trading. When the number of noise traders becomes large, the price impact of the insider asymptotically vanishes, and consequently the stochastic game becomes deterministic optimizations, which also carry implications for regulatory investigations and sanctions.\n\nThe results above include the joint work with Weixuan Xia and with Jianfeng Zhang.",

        "description":"Since Donald Trump returned to the presidency, his administration has operated with lightning speed to upend many certainties of law and politics. How can we understand these changes? In this lecture, Prof. Scheppele will argue that we need to deconstruct attacks on the rule of law into different streams, each run by different people with different legal logics. Some policies stretch preexisting law in unrecognizable ways, while other policies seek to destroy law without replacement. Some policies enforce the law selectively, putting the president and his inner circle above the law even as they subject others to harsh enforcement of that same law. In perhaps the most revolutionary aspect of the Trump presidency, some within his administration have launched a counter-constitutional revolution to remake the US Constitution as we knew it, replacing the prior system of checks and balances with a super-presidency, thus destroying democracy by law. By disentangling these different strands, we can see that Trump is not a \u201che\u201d but a \u201cthey.\u201d Given the multiplicity of attacks on the rule of law, we may need a multipronged effort to restore the rule of law when the Trump era is over.",
