DESCRIPTION:\n\nAugust 24 - October 18\, 2026\nExhibition Reception: October 1\, 1-2:30 p.m.\n\nIn their second year\, Stamps students complete a major milestone: Second Year Studio (SYS). It’s a course where\, per the syllabus\, students \"develop the capacity to work independently by identifying\, exploring\, and pursuing a single independent project that involves multiple iterations.\" \n\nStamps Lecturer & Student Exhibitions Coordinator Sally Clegg notes\, \"Each student takes their own path\, encountering questions that can shape the direction of their creative practice—how do I manage my time? How much constraint vs. freedom do I thrive on? What subject matter do I care about most deeply? How do my ideas about my future goals intersect with the work I want to make now?\" At the end of the semester\, students formally report on their experience in a presentation called the Sophomore Review\, and a faculty panel offers individualized feedback. \n\nInstalled throughout the Art & Architecture Building\, the Second Year Studio Exhibition showcases the art and design work created in this pivotal course by our rising third-year and transfer students\, and invites first-year students and other newcomers to explore both the building and the creative possibilities ahead. The show features 50 students who have volunteered to participate\, yet it honors every Stamps major who reaches the SYS milestone. The pieces on view span a wide array of media and capture a specific moment in each maker’s path: experiments in previously unfamiliar methods\, emergent passions\, creative risks taken\, iterations and reiterations\, and the seeds of so much future work.\n\nAs Course Coordinator\, Stamps Assistant Professor Pedram Baldari both teaches and works directly with all the faculty overseeing each section to collaboratively support the entire class. He offers this reflection on the diverse collection of work on view in this year’s exhibition.\n\nThese works engage a wide range of questions and concerns. Students investigate memory\, identity\, materiality\, ecology\, technology\, labor\, social relationships\, and the built environment through equally diverse formal approaches. While these subjects recur across the exhibition\, what stands out most is not a dominant thematic direction\, but a shared commitment to sustained inquiry.\n\nSYS is intentionally structured around a different learning model than project-based courses. Rather than responding to predetermined assignments\, students identify their own questions and spend an entire semester developing them through research\, experimentation\, critique\, and multiple iterations. The emphasis is not on arriving quickly at a resolved outcome\, but on cultivating the capacity to work independently\, remain responsive to new discoveries\, and allow the project itself to evolve through sustained engagement.\n\nAs a result\, the exhibition presents more than a collection of finished works. It documents different ways of investigating\, testing\, and refining ideas. Some students advance through material experimentation\, others through drawing\, installation\, performance\, digital media\, social engagement\, or speculative approaches. Each project reflects a distinct methodology that has developed through repeated cycles of making\, reflection\, critique\, and revision. In a sense\, the dialectical process generated by the nature of this course is the most significant thread connecting this year’s exhibition. DESCRIPTION:Camille Ann Brewer lives and works in the City of Detroit\, Michigan.  Through the process of textile construction\, Brewer’s artwork intersects cartographic and photographic images that speak to specific spaces and time. Weaving together of physical place\, memory with time is the core subject of this body of work.  \n\nThe artwork is built with time-period paper maps\, which illustrate spatial geography and political territory\; along with paper-collaged images of people\, places and things\, which tie directly to the history and human relationships in space.  In patterns that support the artwork’s theme\, the two disparate paper elements are then woven together to create a serendipitous making and aesthetic experience.

DESCRIPTION:There are nearly one million refugees currently living in Poland. While the vast majority arrived from Ukraine\, Poland has also welcomed forcibly displaced people from Central Asia\, Latin America\, Africa\, and the Middle East. While refugees may be different\, they all search for a place that reminds them of home.\nIn *This Is The Place*\, a project supported by the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR)\, Anna Liminowicz asked refugees to show what\, in Poland\, reminds them of their home. These portraits and the personalized confessions her subjects handwrote in their native languages tell poignant stories about safety and hope.\nAnna Liminowicz is an award-winning photographer and reportage journalist based in Warsaw\, Poland. A frequent contributor to the *The New York Times*\, *The Guardian*\, *The Wall Street Journal*\, *The Washington Post*\, *El Pais*\, *Der Spiegel* and UNHCR\, Liminowicz divides her time  between assignments and long-term personal projects\, mainly focusing on social issues like identity and loss\, and what uplifts her subjects. She has covered the war in Ukraine and Ukrainian refugees in Poland since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion\, and received the 2022 Grand Press Photo Award for her project “Too Precious to Leave Behind”.\n\nIf there is anything we can do to make this event accessible to you\, please contact us. SUMMARY:Exhibition:Comics Beyond Sight
DESCRIPTION:This exhibit covers a variety of creative approaches to comics visual accessibility\, and by extension visual accessibility broadly. Those approaches range from multimedia (audio and textual descriptions) through multidimensional and emerging technologies strategies (3D printing\, haptics\, and screen-based mobile touch interfaces). It demonstrates that comics can be made accessible. Learn about the international efforts of innovators in the realm of comics accessibility for those who are blind or have low vision\, assembled by the Accessible Comics Collective at San Francisco State University (SFSU) with the expertise of blind access professionals. \n\nEmily Beitiks was the accessibility lead for the content creation of the exhibit. She is the co-director for the San Francisco Disability Cultural Center (the first civically funded disability culture center on the planet!)\, and prior to that\, the director of the Longmore Institute on Disability. \n\nNick Sousanis (SFSU)\, the lead creative organizer of the exhibit\, is a Detroit native and was the first person to draw his dissertation in comics format\, subsequently published as the graphic novel Unflattening.\n\nView the exhibit anytime the Hatcher Library is open\, and join us for an opening presentation on Friday\, October 2nd\, 1:00pm - 4:00pm.

Her work has been shown at numerous institutions\, including the Detroit Institute of Arts\, the Cranbrook Art Museum\, and the Arab American National Museum.  She spent nearly 27 years teaching art at Detroit Public schools.\n\nArtist statement: “When looking at a beautiful flower.  It’s just itself.  Just there......no .....it does not proclaim its purpose for blooming is to make people happy. It just is. Like standing in front of an easel and painting........just is.......no matter......what proclamations may be concluded to sway the viewer. Same thing goes for fine art.  It’s not about I am a woman....it’s not about I am a first generation Arab American.....it’s not about being a child of trauma....it’s not about a member of my family being gunned down on the street....it’s about being born a painter.....standing in front of my easel and working to create a \"Piece of Fine Art\". Not standing on some soap box and expecting my words to somehow qualify my painting. It’s the painting\, drawing or sculpture that must speak on its own.......on how the artist......via the intellect and muse uses the elements to create something distinct and first rate.   It can be quiet or loud. I see so much very weak work uplifted not for its quality but because it’s in fashion.”

SUMMARY:Exhibition:WCEE Exhibition. The Art of Memory\, Paintings by Felix Lembersky
DESCRIPTION:Felix Lembersky (1913-1970) was a painter\, theater stage designer\, teacher\, and leader of artistic groups. He began his career within the Soviet Avant-Garde in Ukraine before studying realist painting in Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg). Throughout his life he worked across realist and modernist styles that fell outside of Soviet-mandated Socialist Realism. His Execution: Babyn Yar series (ca. 1944-52) is the earliest known artistic representation of Babyn Yar\, a Holocaust massacre site in Kyiv. For political reasons\, these paintings\, along with his later nonconformist work\, were barred from exhibition in the Soviet Union.\n\nHaving witnessed two world wars\, the 1917 revolution\, and political terror\, Lembersky reflected on these experiences with candor while imbuing his work with hope and optimism. He was drawn to vulnerable\, neglected\, and marginalized people: children\, the elderly\, ethnic minorities\, and industrial workers subjected to harsh labor and dangerous conditions. Regardless of their circumstances\, Lembersky  portrayed his subjects with empathy\, dignity\, and admiration.  \n\n“For my father\, honesty and integrity meant more than anything else. SUMMARY:Exhibition:Art Exhibit: Hands on Fire
DESCRIPTION:Jim Cogswell: Hands on Fire\n\n**August 31 to October 9\, 2026**\n**Public Reception: Friday\, September 18\, 4:30 to 6:30 pm**\n\nJim Cogswell’s Hands on Fire is a solo exhibition of mixed media drawings at the Residential College Gallery at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. The exhibition features sixty works on paper completed between 2024 and 2026.\n\nThis body of work responds to Greek Cypriot filmmaker Michael Cacoyannis’ cinematic adaptations of three tragedies by Euripides dealing with the Trojan War and its aftermath: Electra (1962)\, The Trojan Women (1971)\, and Iphigenia (1977). The work is in close conversation with Vinyl Euripides (2022)\, Cogswell’s adhesive vinyl installation on three floors of the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation in Athens\, Greece\, which also responded to the cinematic trilogy. By following Cacoyannis’ adaptations\, Cogswell builds on a cross-cultural history of restaging these tragedies to examine the human suffering caused by war\, imperial overreach\, and abuse of power\; and the dehumanizing consequences of revenge as a course of justice.\n\nWithin each drawing multiple scenes from the three narratives are overlaid within single frames\, suggesting the unseen entanglements that bind these ancient stories into such a persistent vision of our human position.\n\nThe grid of paintings encircling the gallery proposes a linear narrative but delivers instead a sequence that loops and turns on itself\, a stuck frame that stutters until bursting in flames. The grid also evokes the net that is a central feature of the series--the web of fate and circumstance that governs each of our lives\, that determines who we are and what is possible for us at any given moment in history.\n\nThe drawings are also characterized by a repeated motif of hands as consuming flames. Hands have unlimited expressive and narrative potential. They testify to the centrality of making in the development of human cognition. They are reminders of the constructed world and the laborers responsible for bringing it into being. We use hands as a form of communication to shape and express our inner states. Hands teach us to feel and to reason\, to count and to indicate. They give us agency\, as creators but also as destroyers. SUMMARY:Exhibition:Black Birth Joy
DESCRIPTION:Black Birth Joy by Tiana Lashae documents birth as a deeply personal story of connection\, courage\, tenderness\, and joy. The photographs and stories in the exhibit challenge mainstream narratives that reduce Black birth to statistics and only amplify Black pregnant women's anxiety and hesitancy about navigating the maternal health care system. Instead\, the exhibit offers evidence of joy\, reminders of possibility\, and a visual legacy for generations to come. \n \nBlack Birth Joy was born from Lashae's belief that more positive birth stories of BIPOC families need to be seen and heard\, and her photographs invite viewers to witness the people behind them: the mothers\, babies\, partners\, families\, and birthworkers. They create space for BIPOC families to see themselves represented with dignity and to witness the full range of birth experiences. Lashae's photographs also create a tangible record that can support conversations around quality of medical care\, respectful treatment\, and patient rights. The exhibit empowers women to prioritize and advocate for their birth experiences while also encouraging perinatal health professionals and birthworkers to center the humanity\, dignity\, and individual experiences of patients and families. \n\nThe exhibit comprises over 30 photographs as well as stories of mothers whose births were documented by Lashae\, a doula and birth/newborn photographer whose work has been published in Everyday Birth Magazine\, an international publication. DESCRIPTION:Visiting artist Olayami Dabls is a storyteller\, curator\, educator\, and mentor. He is the founder of the MBAD African Bead Museum in Detroit. Through material culture\, Dabls presents commentary on the past\, present\, and future from African and African-American perspectives\, with the understanding that generations of African ancestors used visual materials to convey information about their identity as well as send messages for healing and protection. Dabls is a luminary\; for decades he has re-imagined what a museum space can be\, accessible to everyone\, free from the underpinnings of colonialism and the Western\, often white\, frame. *Grand Vision* includes a conceptual installation in the Gallery\, presenting Dabls’s own work in visual conversation with African beads and artifacts from Dabls’s Bead Museum collections. \n\nAdditionally\, Dabls’s iconic outdoor sculpture *Iron Teaching Rocks Table Manners* will be installed on the U-M campus grounds near UMMA\, at the intersection of State Street and South University from September 17- October 11\, 2026. The project’s range intends to more fully articulate the many facets of Dabls’ creative practice\, and the overlay of art\, history\, identity\, community\, and healing.

DESCRIPTION:This paper provides evidence that rising misallocation in the R&D sector con- tributed to the recent slowdown in U.S. productivity growth. I develop a growth accounting framework allowing for misallocation of R&D resources across firms cap- tured by wedges between their marginal costs and benefits of R&D. I show that R&D wedges can be measured from R&D returns and document large and persistent differ- ences in R&D returns across U.S.-listed firms. Combining data and model\, I estimate that frictions reduced productivity growth by 11% over 1975–2014 and that rising misallocation in the R&D sector accounts for 32% of the growth slowdown.

Ballots and ballot boxes\, campaign pins and ribbons\, blank lists and pre-printed party tickets\, lanterns and banners–the creative forces of the American print industry filled the country’s cities and small towns with the ephemera of electioneering.\n\nAs you look at the items in this exhibit\, think about what they tell us about how Americans in the past felt about voting\, and about how voting felt. How did Election Days feel when they were full of parades and music and public drinking? What was it like to vote when everyone around you knew who you voted for? DESCRIPTION:\n\nCurated by Srimoyee Mitra\n\nStamps Gallery kicks off the fall 2026 semester with an ambitious mid-career survey of interdisciplinary artist Cosmo Whyte. Born and raised in Jamaica\, Whyte completed a BFA from Bennington College and earned an MFA from the University of Michigan. He is currently a faculty member at the School of the Arts and Architecture\, UCLA.\n\nThis exhibition brings together two central concerns that animate Whyte’s artistic practice: the archive\, both personal and public\, as a site of disturbance\; and migration as a lived experience of refuge\, refusal\, and reinvention. In Whyte’s work\, the archive is never static or neutral. Rather\, it is a contested space where official histories encounter memory\, inheritance\, and the fragments of stories carried across generations. His practice moves within this charged interstitial terrain\, between what has been recorded and what has been remembered\, between institutional knowledge and embodied experience. Whyte invites the viewer to consider the fluidity of geographic borders and layered cultural identities that have persisted despite societal unrest caused by racial and socio-economic hierarchies across generations. In an era of intensified border politics and renewed debates over national identity\, Whyte’s work offers a timely meditation on memory\, movement\, and belonging.\n\nPresented with support from the U-M Institute for Humanities\, the U-M LSA Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies\, and the U-M Library.

The event will feature remarks by the organizers\, the exhibition curators\, one of the featured photojournalists\, and a former Peace Corps volunteer who has stood in solidarity with the people of Gwangju since 1980. Light refreshments are provided. \n\n*Exhibition Description*\nThis photo exhibition features 90 curated images from the UNESCO-inscribed May 18 Archives. Documenting the May 18–27\, 1980 democratization uprising in Gwangju\, South Korea\, the collection captures the shift from peaceful student protests to military violence and unified citizen resistance\, carried out under a complete blackout as civilians and photojournalists risked their lives to photograph atrocities and smuggle film past cordons. Beyond serving as historical artifacts\, these preserved visual truths offer a living blueprint for popular resilience against authoritarianism\, transforming local trauma into a universal defense of human rights. Displaying these records at Michigan bridges 1980 Gwangju with our present moment\, inviting viewers to engage past resistance in the ongoing effort to defend democracy today.\n\n*Exhibition Composition*\nThe exhibit will be composed of a visual narrative comprised of six chronological sections and two additional special sections:\n\n1. Protest (May 5–16\, 1980): \nFollowing the collapse of Park Chung-hee’s military dictatorship in October\, 1979\, Gwangju students and citizens held peaceful rallies for campus autonomy and the end of martial law. Photos from this era show orderly marches and hopeful faces\, capturing a society on the brink of change before the structural contradictions shifted toward state-led violence. \n\n2. Suppression (May 18–19\, 1980): \nA new junta government led by Chun Doo-hwan extended martial law to the entire country on May 17. Students at Chonnam National University protested against the new junta government’s decision. State violence escalated as paratroopers\, who were deployed to Gwangju\, engaged student protesters. Streets became scenes of brutal beatings and kidnappings. Beyond documenting victims\, the images on display in this section serve as primary historical evidence and legal proof of the military's methods and the sudden transformation of citizens into targets of control. \n\n3. Uprising (May 20–21\, 1980): \nThe movement shifted into a popular struggle. Vehicles lined up in Gwangju’s main thoroughfare\, Geumnam-ro. This massive vehicle parade symbolized the people becoming active subjects of resistance. The military was given the order to use live ammunition against civilians. In reaction\, the city became a space of voluntary mobilization and citizens emerged as historical political actors. \n\n4. Resistance (May 22–26\, 1980): \nWhile isolated and cut off from communications\, Gwangju established an autonomous system of self-governance. Photos in this section testify to the efforts made to establish a sense of order based on solidarity—sharing food and donating blood—rather than chaos. The formation of this \"Daedong (Great Unity) Community\" and the visual documentation thereof serve as foundations of democracy in South Korea. \n\n5. Massacre (May 27\, 1980): \nThe uprising was crushed by a dawn military operation. While the armed resistance ended\, the resulting photographs of the aftermath reveal the stark reality of the massacre. These images became the catalyst for future truth-seeking movements and the pursuit of historical justice in South Korea. \n\n6. DESCRIPTION:Seminar Summary - Ecological opportunity is often invoked to explain major evolutionary radiations\, but how opportunities arise\, are exploited\, and ultimately become constrained remains less clear. Using insects as a lens\, I explore these processes across scales: from how the transition from gymnosperm- to angiosperm-dominated ecosystems reorganized insect diversification\, to how generalist interactions preceded specialization in Hymenoptera\; how deep evolutionary history structures global bee biogeography\; and how phylogeny and ecology shape insect elemental stoichiometry. Finally\, I use the fossil history of ants to ask how competition\, facilitation\, and diversity dependence allow biodiversity itself to reshape future evolutionary opportunities. Together\, these studies view ecological opportunity not as a single event\, but as a dynamic process that is continually created\, filtered\, and reconstructed through deep time.

Counter to the \"romantic\" Silk Road imagery the BRI commonly draws on\, these activities are forcing a reconfiguration of political and economic realities across the region\, shifting attention toward changing practices of digital economy and governance along the BRI. This paper introduces the concept of 'variegated govotolerance' to explain why governments and citizens have (to varying degrees) come to tolerate\, regional cybercriminal activity linked to Chinese actors.\n\nTom Narins is an associate professor of geography\, planning\, and sustainability at the University at Albany with research interests in the critical geopolitics of China's growing engagement with the global economy.\nHis current research examines the political and economic tensions associated with “Global China” in terms of both traditional and digital infrastructure\, with a special focus on China’s digital expansion across the Global South. As a political and economic geographer\, Tom has published on sovereignty issues relating to China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) as well as on official Chinese lending to BRI-participant countries after the coronavirus pandemic. Have you ever considered what it takes to provide effective\, culturally responsive care in American Indian communities?\n\nJoin Dr. Sophina Calderon and Nicholas Cushman\, PharmD\, MHA\, BCACP\, for a conversation about the barriers affecting healthcare access in American Indian communities and the role pharmacists play in addressing them\, from ensuring patients have access to medication to providing the culturally responsive care they need.\n \n - - -\n \nMcKesson Foundation Health Equity Speaker Series\n\nDisparities in health and healthcare have been are prevalent\, particularly in underserved or minority communities\, as a result of a variety of factors such as birthplace\, housing\, education\, race\, age\, sexual identity and other nonmedical factors. These factors are commonly referred to as the social determinants of health (SDOH). As a result of SDOH\, quality healthcare and treatment can be difficult to access for many who don’t fall into the dominant group and must confront barriers to receive treatment.\n\nExamples of barriers to adequate healthcare treatment include poverty\, lack of access to quality education or positive social activities\, and unhealthy environmental factors. These factors must be addressed in order to achieve positive health outcomes and equity in access to healthcare and treatment for all. To help illuminate and educate around issues involving social determinants of health\, the College of Pharmacy and the McKesson Foundation have teamed up to launch the McKesson Foundation Health Equity Speaker Series.\n\nFor the past two years the College of Pharmacy at the University of Michigan in partnership with the McKesson Foundation has hosted a speaker series based on the topic of health equity. The McKesson Foundation is dedicated to advancing health outcomes for all with the mission to removing barriers to quality healthcare across the country\, especially for vulnerable and underserved communities. The College of Pharmacy also has a longstanding history of fighting to address addressing disparities in healthcare and is a leader in the fight for equitable healthcare for all individuals. This alignment in values and mission of both organizations led to the provision awarding of a grant to resulted in the College of Pharmacy being awarded a grant in 2022 to launch what we now call the McKesson Foundation Health Equity Speaker Series\, with the goal of educating the UM community and inspiring those around us to find solutions that address inequities in healthcare and beyond.\n\nAbout our Funder\, the McKesson Foundation\nThe McKesson Foundation is a charitable organization dedicated to improving health outcomes for vulnerable and underserved populations. It focuses on initiatives that address healthcare disparities\, promote patient-centered care\, and support cancer care and survivorship. DESCRIPTION:We develop a test of Bayesian updating “in the field\,” where the analyst observes neither the likelihood function nor the realized signals. Our test works ex post\, conditional on every realized state\, and is prior-agnostic in the sense that its validity does not require the agent’s prior to be “correct.” We compare our procedure to tests based on the martingale property of beliefs\, which are valid only ex ante\, before the state is realized\, and only if the prior is correct. Whereas martingale tests are sensitive to correlation between issues\, our test is robust to such dependence. Even when issues are independent\, we find that our test typically has greater power relative to the martingale-based tests. In an empirical application using individual-level belief data\, we illustrate how our procedure provides a more direct test of Bayesian updating than the martingale-based alternatives.

DESCRIPTION:Abstract: \nWe know that classroom physical activity breaks can help children move more\, interrupt prolonged sitting\, and support learning—but knowing what works is only the beginning. The harder question is: How do we help schools consistently put evidence into practice? This talk explores the journey from evidence-based intervention to sustainable classroom practice\, drawing on the implementation of InPACT (Interrupting Prolonged Sitting with Activity) across Michigan schools. Dr. Hasson will examine why promising physical activity interventions often fall short during implementation and how implementation science can help close the gap between adoption and everyday use. She will highlight three complementary strategies—Replicating Effective Programs\, implementation teams\, and implementation facilitation—and share lessons from their application in diverse school settings. The talk will introduce a precision implementation approach: rather than assuming every school needs the same support\, implementation strategies can be stepped up according to the barriers\, resources\, and readiness of each school. Attendees will leave with practical insights into how to move beyond simply asking\, \"Does it work?\" to asking\, “What support does this setting need to make it work—and sustain it?”\n\nBio: \nDr. Rebecca Hasson is the Victor L. Katch Collegiate Professor of Kinesiology and an associate professor of Movement Science at the University of Michigan. She is a nationally recognized expert in children's health\, physical activity\, and health equity. She created InPACT and InPACT at Home to help children be more active through fun\, short activity breaks that fit easily into the school day and family routines. For more than 15 years\, Dr. Hasson has worked with schools\, healthcare providers\, and families to develop practical\, evidence-based programs that improve children's physical\, mental\, and emotional well-being. Her research is supported by the National Institutes of Health and the Michigan Health Endowment Fund\, with a focus on making healthy lifestyles more accessible for all children. Through InPACT\, her goal is to give every child the opportunity to enjoy the lifelong benefits of regular physical activity—at school\, at home\, and beyond.

This seminar will introduce Architector\, a software package released in 2023 that enables the generation of molecular structures across the periodic table\, with particular capabilities for f-element coordination complexes. DESCRIPTION:The rapidly developing field of quantum materials calls for increasingly precise methods to characterize and control entanglement. While foundational progress was first achieved in quantum optics and few-body quantum simulators\, extending these ideas to complex many-body states in correlated materials remains a major challenge. In this talk\, I will introduce the entanglement-witness framework as a practical route for characterizing entanglement through experimentally accessible solid-state measurements. I will begin with the Bell test and discuss how its underlying logic can be generalized to entanglement witnesses in material systems. Recent examples include the detection of spin entanglement in quantum magnets using neutron scattering and spin-orbital entanglement using resonant inelastic x-ray scattering. These approaches can also be extended to nonequilibrium settings\, opening opportunities to manipulate entanglement with light. In the second half of the talk\, I will move beyond distinguishable local degrees of freedom and consider entanglement among indistinguishable fermions. This motivates a generalized framework for multipartite electronic entanglement based on the cumulant reduced density matrix and nonlinear spectroscopic responses. With this strategy\, we can further connect transport-noise measurements in cryogenic materials to an electronic entanglement metric\, enabling the certification of entanglement in the fractional Chern insulating state of twisted MoTe2.\n\nBio: Yao Wang is an associate professor in Emory University. He received bachelor's degree from University of Science and Technology of China in 2011 and Ph.D. degree from Stanford University in 2017. After that\, he worked at Harvard University as an MPHQ postdoctoral fellow. In 2020\, he started his independent career as an assistant professor at Clemson University and then the College of Science Dean's assistant professor. He moved his group to Emory University in August 2023 and obtained tenure in 2026. His research interests lie in the theoretical and computational study of quantum many-body problems and their experimental correspondence in solid-state materials and quantum science. He was the recipient of the DOE early career award\, AFOSR young investigator award\, and the Scialog fellow.

On Tuesday\, October 6th\, Matylda will give a presentation which examines the figure of Bona Sforza of Aragon (1494-1557)\, Queen of Poland\, Grand Duchess of Lithuania\, Princess of Bari\, Rssano in the Kingdom of Naples\, and heir to the Duchy of Mila and the Kingdom of Jerusalen. It is thought not as a gender biography. Her figure and life serve as a case study to illustrate the processes taking place in the Mediterranean world and in northern and eastern Europe in the time just before the Habsburg domination in the mid-16th century. The focus is therefore on the time and places where Bona came to rule. If still having issues\, click this link. \nFirst-Year Relationship and Sexuality Talk (FYRST) is a required\, in-person\, and peer-facilitated workshop that came directly from feedback and listening sessions with current University of Michigan students. Our goal is to create an accessible\, supportive space for student-driven conversations where all identities and experiences are welcomed and in which students can build skills and tools around identifying goals and values and then communicate effectively about those. Workshops will be offered at multiple locations and times throughout the fall semester\, so please sign up for the workshop that works for you!! First-Year Relationship Sexuality Talk (FYRST) FAQ:\n“How many workshops do I have to sign up for?”\nYou only need to sign up for 1 workshop. Attending 1 workshop will fulfill the requirement for the training. \n“I see that there is more than one session\, does it matter which one I sign up for?”\nIt generally does not matter which workshop you sign up for. There will be a few that are designated for specific groups such as transfer students or for students looking for accommodations. If you do not fit these groups please try to save these workshops for those that do and you are free to choose among any of the other workshops. \n“Is this workshop required?”\nThis workshop is required for all transfer and first-year students at the University of Michigan.\n“I’ve experienced harm around relationships or sexual experiences in the past and I am worried that attending this workshop may be harmful for me.” \nOur team is aware that students who are coming into the university that have experienced harm in the past. Our workshop is specifically designed to respect and validate the experiences of survivors and has been carefully constructed to avoid any specific descriptions of violence and focus instead on themes of empowerment\, communication\, and boundary setting. However\, if you still have concerns about programming and would like to request alternative programming\, please feel free to reach out at SAPAC-FYRST@umich.edu.\n“What if I struggle to learn in a presentation setting? I’m an active learner.”\nOur workshop is built to meet a variety of learning styles\, including time for self-reflection\, small group sharing\, and resources to take with you to work through on your own time!
