SUMMARY:Performance:Baroque Chamber Orchestra
DESCRIPTION:The University of Michigan’s Baroque Chamber Orchestra studies and performs repertoire from the late Renaissance\, Baroque\, and the early Classical periods. While directed by faculty members Aaron Berofsky\, baroque violin\, and Joseph Gascho\, harpsichord/organ\, many performances are led by the students themselves. Using period instruments and replicas from the university’s growing Stearns Collection\, the musicians gain vital hands-on experience and learn about the history and context of early music and performance practice.

SUMMARY:Performance:Come from Away
DESCRIPTION:*Come from Away* is based on the true story of the time when the isolated community of Gander\, Newfoundland\, played host to the world. What started as an average day in a small town turned into an international sleepover\, when 38 planes\, carrying thousands of people from around the globe\, were diverted to Gander’s airstrip on September 11\, 2001. Undaunted by culture clashes and language barriers\, the people of Gander cheered the stranded travelers with music\, an open bar\, and the recognition that we’re all part of a global family.\n\n*Come from Away* has earned global success with 37 award nominations and 13 wins\, most notably Best New Musical at the 2019 Olivier Awards and Outstanding Musical at the 2017 Drama Desk Awards. The show’s global presence resonates with audiences as an uplifting reminder of humanity’s ability to come together.\n\nBook\, Music\, and Lyrics by Irene Sankoff and David Hein\nDirected by Vincent J. Cardinal\nMusic Direction by Cynthia Kortman Westphal\n

SUMMARY:Performance:Off Book: Tour de Force (A Force of Tour)
DESCRIPTION:Jessica McKenna and Zach Reino create a completely improvised musical in an attempt to combat the notion that musicals should be “carefully crafted” or “thought out at all.” \n\nJessic and Zach wrote and composed music for the WGA award-winning Peacock Series Baking It starring Maya Rudolph\, Amy Poehler and Andy Samberg. The duo has also written songs and musical sketches for the hit animation show Rick and Morty\, Party Over Here (a Fox sketch show produced by The Lonely Island)\, the Peacock series Pitch Perfect: Bumper In Berlin\, Buzzfeed\, FunnyOrDie and Nickelodeon. Zach and Jess are currently developing TV and Film projects with Amy Poehler’s Paper Kite Productions\, David Wain (The State\, Role Models\, Wanderlust) and Elizabeth Banks’ Brownstone Productions. They also created and starred in Serious Music\, a digital series for ABC. \n \nTheir improvised musical podcast Off Book has been praised by various online publications including Indie Wire\, USA Today\, Parade\, AV Club and Splitsider and been featured at Comedy Central’s Clusterfest Festival\, Moontower\, the world renowned Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal\, and the Netflix Is A Joke Festival in LA.
