SUMMARY:Lecture / Discussion:HET Seminar | Nuclear Reactors\, Nuclear Weapons\, Neutrinos and Nonproliferation
DESCRIPTION:This talk has two goals. One is to introduce some of the technical issues associated with nuclear reactors and concerns of proliferation of fissile materials that can be used to construct a nuclear weapon. Examples are discussed\, including reactor fuel issues and possible neutrino monitoring of nuclear reactors. The second goal\, which is connected to the first\, is to describe the current landscape in the dangerous resurgence of nuclear weapons\, most especially in North Korea. Emphasis will be on science and technology's role in creating the threats and possibly mitigating them.
