SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:Arabic Calligraphy in the Chinese Style
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special session with world renowned artist\, Haji Noor Deen. Begin with a discussion on the history of the script\, his work and techniques. Then\, learn the basics of Arabic Calligraphy in the Chinese Style (ACCS) creating your own piece using the qalam and ink.\n\n\nHajji Noor Deen Hoca is one of the few living masters of Islamic Calligraphy in the world. His work focuses on writing Arabic using a combination of traditional Chinese calligraphic tools and techniques to fuse the Chinese and Arabic visual arts uniquely. Haji Noor Deen is also responsible for the formal codification of the ancient Arabic writing system in the Chinese tradition.\nHe is internationally recognized for his expertise and knowledge and has written several books on Arabic Calligraphy in the Chinese Script. He is currently in the process of producing a Quran written in this script in collaboration with his students. His pieces are featured in museums and art galleries throughout the world\, including the British Museum\, the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco\, the National Museum of Scotland\, the University of Michigan and the Center for Government and International Studies (CGIS) at Harvard University. He was also awarded the Dubai Islamic Economy Development Center 2016 Islamic Economy Award in the category of Islamic Arts.\nHe has ijazaat (formal certifications) in several scripts of Islamic calligraphy and is part of the isnaad (chain) of Islamic Calligraphers through his teacher\, Hasan Chalabi\, the foremost living master calligrapher in the world.
