Each year, the organizers of The Ark's monthly Open Stage pick out one or more performers from the preceding year and give them an evening at The Ark to stretch their wings a little wider. This year's Open Stage Showcase artist is Daniel Fernandes. Daniel Fernandes is a Toronto native who discovered a love of Michigan and its people, many of whom have inspired his music. Classically trained on the piano at a young age, he started playing euphonium, trombone, and trumpet in high school, where he then took up jazz piano. He has also conducted musicals on both sides of the border and has shared the stage here in Ann Arbor with great local musicians like Vienna Teng. Working full time at GM and attending the U-M part time, he still explores his passion for music just about daily. The Ark Open Stage Showcase in July 2013 will be the first full exposition of his music in public, featuring some never-before-performed music on piano, guitar and vocals. Daniel's music is strongly influenced by classical, jazz, folk, and gospel styles. He may be joined on stage by Ark favorite Vienna Teng.
